CXCVIII.
Consuetudo peccandi minuit timorem.
Saynt Gregur tellis how þer was on̛ a tyme a man̛ þat opon̛ þe Pascℏ-evyn̛ corrupte a maydyn̛. So opon̛ þe morn̛ he was ferd̛ for to go into þe kurk̘, att þe devuƚƚ suld̛ hafe no power of hym̛. Not-withstondyng, at þe laste he went in for shame with a grete ferdnes. And so he did̛ on̛ þe secund̛ day, & was les ferd̛; & on̛ þe iij day he was leste ferd̛ of aƚƚ. And þus he did̛ vnto vij dayes was passid, and þan̛ he was nothyng ferd̛, & wold̛ not shryfe hym̛ þerof. & onone after he dyed̛ a sodan dead̛. And when̛ he was laid̛ in his grafe, þer come sodanlie a grete low into his grafe & burnyd̛ ewhils þer was lefte a morceƚƚ of hys bodie to burn̛ opon̛, & to it was clene wastid̛.
