ad inuicem.
We rede in 'Vitis Patrum' how som tyme þer was ij brether
þat dwelte samen many yeris, & þai varid̛ neuer
nor neuer was wrothe. So on̛ a tyme þe tone said̛
vnto þe toder; "latt vs make debate betwix vs as other men̛
of þis werld̛ dois." And þe toder ansswerd̛

& sayd̛ þat he wuste neuer what debate was; &
þan̛ þe toder sayd̛ vnto hym̛; "lay
down̛ þi hude betwixt vs two and I saƚƚ say it is
myne, & þou saƚƚ say, 'nay! it is myne.' And̛
here-of saƚƚ a debate brede betwix vs." And þai laid̛
down̛ þis hude betwyx þaim, and þe tone
said̛; "it is myne"; & þe toþer said̛; "nay!
it is myne." þan̛ þe tother sayd̛; "it is
þyne; & þerfor̛ take it vp̛ & don̛
it on̛ þi hede & go þi ways." And þus
þai partid̛ & nowder of þaim mott nor cuthe
discorde with oþer.
