We rede how som̛ tyme þer was a monk þat hight Gregorie, and in no wise he myght nott lang abyde att dyvyne serves, nor at his prayers, bod evur when̛ his other brether sayd̛ þer prayers or þer serves, onone he went furtℏ and made hym̛ to do som̛ other labur. So on̛ a tyme his Abbott, Saynt Benett, was war of a lytle blak boy led hym̛ oute be þe shurte of his clothis. So on̛ a day when̛ he went furtℏ, & þis lurdan̛ led hym̛ oute, þan̛ Saynt Benett strake þis yong monk with a wand̛ & bad hym̛ go in agayn̛, & abide in his prayers as his other brethir did̛. & so for ferd̛ of þis strake of Saynt Benett, þis fende at was in a blak boy lyknes durst nevur after com̛ & feche hym̛ furthe. et c̛.
