Hail be ȝe potters wiþ ȝur bole ax! Fair beþ ȝur barmhatres, ȝolow beþ ȝur fax, Ȝe stondiþ at þe schamil, brod ferlich bernes; Fleiis ȝow folowithe, [folowiþe, Ms. folowith'] ȝe swolowiþ [swolowiþe] ynow. Þe best clerk [clark] of al þis tun Craftfullich makid þis bastun.
Hail be ȝe bakers wiþ ȝur louis smale [folio 8b] Of white bred and of blake, ful mani and fale! Ȝe pincheþ on þe riȝt white aȝens [aȝen] g[o]ddes law, To þe fair pillori, ich rede, ȝe tak hede. Þis uers is iwrowȝte so welle, Þat no tung iwis mai telle.
Hail be ȝe brewesters wiþ ȝur galuns, Potels and quartes [quarters] ouer al þe tounes. Ȝur þowmes [thowrnes] berriþ [beriþ Ms. b'riþ] moch awai, schame hab þe gyle; Beþ iwar of þe coking-stole, þe lak is dep and hori. Sikerlich he was a clerk Þat so sleilich wroȝte þis werk.
Hail be ȝe hokesters dun bi þe lake, Wiþ candles and golokes and þe pottes blak, Tripis and kine fete and schepen heuedes! Wiþ þe hori tromcheri hori is ȝure inne! He is sori of his lif, Þat is fast to such a wif.
Fi a debles, kaites, þat kemiþ þe wolle, Al þe schindes of þe tronn an [Fur. a, Ms. a' (= and)] heiȝ opon ȝur sculle. Ȝe makid me soch [sech, Ms. undeutlich] a goshorne ouer al þe wowes; Þer for ich makid on of ȝou sit opon a hechil.
