Ȝee haue herd þe sufferynge of Iob, & þe ende of oure Lord ȝe seyȝ: for oure Lord is mercyful & forȝeuere. [verse 12] Byfore alle þinge, my breþeren, ne wyle ȝe not swere neiþer by heuene, ne be erþe, ne noon oþer manere othe: loke þat ȝoure word be ȝe, ȝe, nay, nay; þat ȝee falle not vndur dome. [verse 13] If eny of ȝow be heuyed, pray he wiþ stable herte, & ioye he in his heuynes. [verse 14] If eny of ȝow falle seke, brynge he in þe prestes of þe churche, & þat þei preye for him, ennoyntynge him wiþ oyle in þe name of oure Lord: [verse 15] & þe preyȝere of feiþ schal saue þe seke, & oure Lord schal uppreyse him; & if he be in synne, þei beþ forȝeue him. [verse 16] & þerfore schryue ȝow eche to oþur ȝoure synnys, & prayeþ to-gedere, þat ȝe may be safe. Muche soþely auayleþ bysy preyere of þe riȝtwyse. [verse 17] Helye was a man like vnto us, þat myȝte fele noye & suffre, & wiþ prayere he preyed þat it schulde not reyne up-on erþe; & it reyned not þre ȝere and syxe moneþes. [verse 18] & eft he preyede; & heuene ȝaf reyne & þe erþe ȝaf his fruyte. [verse 19] My breþeren, soþely who of ȝow erreþ fro soþfastenesse, & whoso him amendeþ, [verse 20] hym oweþ to wyte, þat he þat made þe synful to be turned fro þe erroure of his weye schal saue his soule fro deeþ, and [folio 62] hydeþ þe mechelnesse of his synnes þat wole turn to him.

[verse 1] Petre, þe apostul of [a large hole in the MS. here.] Iesu Criste, vn-to þe chosen comelynges þat beþ spred a-brode of Ponti, of Galathie, of Capadocie, of Asye, and Bythune, [verse 2] aftur þe byfore-knowynge of God þe Fadur, in holynes of spiryte, in buxomnes, in sprenkelynge of þe blode of Iesu Criste. Grace be vn-to ȝow, & pees be multiplied. [verse 3] Blessid be God & þe Fadur of oure Lord Iesu Criste, þe whuche þorow his grete mercy eft-gate us a-ȝeyn in-to a leuynge hope þorow þe resureccyoun of Iesu Criste fro deeþ, [verse 4] in-to þat heritage þat may not be defouled, ne fordone, but is euerelastynge kept in heuene in ȝow, [verse 5] þat in þe vertu of God be keped by feiþ in-to hele maked redy þat on þe laste day schal be schewid; [verse 6] in þe whuche ȝe schul make ioye. Now if it byhoueþ ȝow a litil to be heuyed in dyuerse trybulacyons, [verse 7] þat þe prouynge of ȝoure feiþe be more precious þan gold is þat is proued wiþ þe fyre, þat ȝoure feiþe be founde in worschupe & ioye & honoure [folio 62b] in-to þe schewynge of Iesu Crist: [verse 8] whom, if ȝe him not see, ȝee loue him: in whom now þat ȝee see not & trowe; whom, whan ȝee schulde him see, he schal be ȝoure ioye, ȝoure comfort þat may not be tolde, & þat schal be glorifyed, [verse 9] bryngynge aȝeyn þe ende of ȝoure feiþe, hele of ȝoure soulis. [verse 10] Of whuche hele þe prophetes enquered & souȝte, þe whuche prophecyed grace þat was to come in vs: [verse 11] sechynge in what tyme it schulde syngny|fye; þe sperite of Crist, þat was in hem, schewid hem þat beþ in Cristes passyoun what ioye þei schulde haue aftur.
