obedyent to þat þat is y-sayd hem, & redy to eferich good [verse 2] werk, to blaspheme no man, ne ben none stryferes, bote softe, schewynge eferich mansuetude to alle men. [verse 3] And we weren ous-self sumtyme vnwyse, vnbylefed, errynge, & serfynge to oure desyres & to dyuerse lustes, & in [P folio 97b] malyce and in enuye lyfynge, y-hated of oþer men, & hatynge to-gedere. [verse 4] Bote when þe benygnyte & þe humanyte appered [S folio 85] of God [verse 5] oure Safyour, noȝt of þe werkes of ryȝtfulnesse, þat we hafeþ y-don, bote þoroȝ his owne mercy he safed ous, by waschynge [verse 6] of a bygetynge aȝeyn & renewynge of þe Holy Gost, whom he haþ y-sched in ous plenteuouslyche, by Iesu Crist oure [verse 7] Safyour; þat we ben y-iustyfyed þoroȝ his grace & ben eyrys þoroȝ hope of an eferlastynge lyf. [verse 8] A trew word, & of þese þinges ich wole conferme þe, þat by goode werkes men chargen to ben beforen oþer, þilke þat bylefeþ to God. For [verse 9] þese þinges beþ goode & profytabel to men: bote schenye þou questyones of foly, and genologyes, and stryfes of þe lawe; for þei beþ vnprofytabel and veyn. [verse 10] A man þat is an heretyk aftur þe furste & þe secounde correccyoun schenye hym; [verse 11] knowynge þat such a man is y-turned upso-doun, & he agulteþ whan he is y-dampned þorowȝ his owne dom.

Þus, suster, seynt Poule techeþ how Cristene men schuleþ lyfe, & his techyng acordeþ wiþ Cristis techynge in þe gospel, as þe techynge of þe oþere aposteles doþ. And now, suster, my counseyl is þat þou lyfe vertuouslyche [P folio 98] after Cristes techynge, & kepynge his hestes whyles þou art in þis world; & þanne þou schalt þoroȝ his mercy come to an eferlastynge lyf of blysse, boþe in body and in soule. Amen.
