[verse 1] I byseche þerfore þe olde þat beþ wiþ ȝou, I, þat am on of ȝoure elderis, & a wittnes of þe passyouns of Crist, þe whuche is comm[u]n[er] [MS. commin.] of his ioye þat schal be schewed in tyme þat is to come, [folio 67] [verse 2] þat ȝe feede Godes flokke in þat at ȝee may, purueyinge for hem, not constreyned but by ȝoure fre wille, aftur Godes techynge; ne for no hauynge of foule wordly wynnynge, but wilfully (& gladly) [Underlined.] ; [verse 3] not as lordis in þe clergye, but a forme (& ensample) [Underlined.] to the flokke of good lyuynge; [verse 4] and whan þe prynce of hirdus schal appere (þat is, Crist on þe day of dome) [Underlined.] , ȝe schal take a gloriose croune of ioye. [verse 5] & þe same manere ȝe þat be ȝonge be þe sogettes to ȝoure elderis. And scheweþ alle to-gedere mekenes a-mong ȝow: for God þe proude wiþstondiþ, & to þe meke he ȝeueþ grace. [verse 6] And þerfore meke ȝow vndur þe myȝt[y] honde of God, þat he make ȝow hye in tyme of his visitacioun; [verse 7] puttynge in him al ȝoure bysynes, for he haþ kepynge of ȝow. [verse 8] Beþ sobre & wakeþ, for ȝoure enmy þe deuele as it wore a romynynge lyon goþ aboute, sechynge whom he may swelowe: [verse 9] whom ȝe schul wiþstonde, stalworþe in þe feiþ, wytynge þat ȝee mowe suffre þe same passyoun þat he doþ þat is in þe worlde (for eny strenkþ þat ȝe haue of ȝow-self) [Underlined.] . [verse 10] & þerfore soþly God of al grace þat haþ callid ȝow in-to his euere-lastynge ioye in Iesu Crist, he schal fulfille (þe myȝt þat ȝow wanteþ) [Underlined.] , conferme (ȝoure þouȝte) [Underlined.] , & make it sad. [verse 11] In him by ioye & honoure euere wiþ-outen ende. Amen. [verse 12] By oure trewe broþer [folio 67b] Syluane, as I suppose, schortly I haue wryton vnto ȝow, prayinge & wyttnessynge þat þis is þe verrey grace of God, in þe whuche loke þat ȝe stonde. [verse 13] Þe chosun churche þat is in Babiloyne greteþ ȝow weel, & Marke my sone. [verse 14] Greteþ wel to-gedere echone oþur in holy kyssynge. Grace be to ȝow alle þat beþ in Iesu Criste. Amen.
