[verse 1] Do ȝee now, riche men, make sorwe & wepeþ in ȝoure wrecchednes þe whuche schal come vn-to ȝow. [verse 2] Roten beþ maked ȝoure richesses, and ȝoure cloþus wiþ mothes beþ frete. [verse 3] Ȝoure golde & ȝoure seluer rust haþ ouer-goo; & þe ruste of hem schal be a-geynus ȝow in wittnes & schal ete ȝoure flesche as it were þe fyre. Ȝee make ȝow a tresorye of wraþþe in þe laste dayees. [verse 4] Lo, þe hire of ȝoure hyrid men & of ȝoure seruauntis þat þei traueiled fore in ȝoure seruice, þe whuche fro hem ȝe haue wiþ-holden & defrauded, crieþ: & þe cry of hem entrede in-to þe eres of God almyȝty. [verse 5] Fat fedde ȝee beþ upon erþe, & in leccheries ȝe nursched ȝoure hertes in day of sleynge. [verse 6] Ȝee brouȝte forþe & slowe þe riȝtwyse, & he wiþstod ȝow nouȝt. [verse 7] & þerfore, breþeren, beþ sufferynge for þe comynge of oure Lord. Lo, þe tilyere abideþ þe precyouse frute of þe erþe, pacyently abidynge to it haue taken sesoun & þe temperaunce. [verse 12] Byfore alle þinge, my breþeren, ne wyle ȝe not swere neiþer by heuene, ne be erþe, ne noon oþer manere othe: loke þat ȝoure word be ȝe, ȝe, nay, nay; þat ȝee falle not vndur dome. [verse 13] If eny of ȝow be heuyed, pray he wiþ stable herte, & ioye he in his heuynes. [verse 14] If eny of ȝow falle seke, brynge he in þe prestes of þe churche, & þat þei preye for him, ennoyntynge him wiþ oyle in þe name of oure Lord: [verse 15] & þe preyȝere of feiþ schal saue þe seke, & oure Lord schal uppreyse him; & if he be in synne, þei beþ forȝeue him. [verse 16] & þerfore schryue ȝow eche to oþur ȝoure synnys, & prayeþ to-gedere, þat ȝe may be safe. Muche soþely auayleþ bysy preyere of þe riȝtwyse. [verse 17] Helye was a man like vnto us, þat myȝte fele noye & suffre, & wiþ prayere he preyed þat it schulde not reyne up-on erþe; & it reyned not þre ȝere and syxe moneþes. [verse 18] & eft he preyede; & heuene ȝaf reyne & þe erþe ȝaf his fruyte.
