Allectus & Walwus, Romany, venerunt.

Whan þey of Rome tydyng herde Þat Karays wiþ Bretaygne þus ferde, [with þis lond misferd.] Þey sente hider þre [tuo. trois, Wace, i. 260.] [Petyt folio 36a:2] legions, Wyþ to of þer bolde barons; Line 6004 Allectus & Walwes þer name [Allet & Gallus þer names.] hyght, Wysemen of werre, & hardy in fight. [hardy & wight.] Þey come pryuely [com vp ryuand.] out of þe se, Bot Karays wolde haue reft hem þeir entre; Line 6008 Bot maugre Karreys, on hym þey wan, [Lambeth folio 26b:1] And slowe Karreys þe false man, [þat falsnes gan.] & alle þat weren of his kynde, Destruyed hem [stroyed þam.] by rote & rynde, Line 6012 & alle þo þat þe Romayns forsok, And til Kareys party tok.
