¶ Þus quad Alured: Idilscipe and orgul-prude, þat lerit gung wif leþere þewes, Line 288 and often to þenchen don þat he ne scolde. Gif he for-swu[n]ken [K. for swuken, W. for-swuken.] swoti wuere [W. þuere.] swo hie ne þochte, Line 292 ac þoch hit is iuel to bewen [K. beuen.] þat tertre [K. ter tre.] ben ne wille; [K. ville.] for ofte mused þe catt after þe moder.
