[6-text p 680] techeinge of orisons [1039] ¶ Ȝe schol vnder stonde þat orisons or preyers is for to seye a pytous wil of hert þat redresseþ in god & expresseþ be worde outewarde to remowe harmes; & to haue þinges espirituel & durable; & somtyme temperal þinges of whiche orisones; certez in þe orsones of þe pater noster haþe ihesu criste enclosed most þinges; [1040] Certes it is priueleged of þrey þinges in his dignite For whiche it is more digne þan any oþere preyere; ffor þat ihesu crist him self maked it; [1041] & it is schorte for it scholde be konde more lihtlye & for to wiþe-holde it more esily in herte; & helpen hem self þoffter wiþ þorison; [1042] And for aman schold be þe lasse were to sey it; And for a man may nouht excusen him to leren it for it is so schort & so Esye & for it comprehendiþ in it selfe al goode preyers; [1043] ¶ þe exposicioun of þis holy preyer þat is so excellent & digne .I. be-take to þes Maystres of Theologie saue þus muche wil .I. seyne; þat whan þou preyest. [folio 254a] þat god schold for ȝeuen þe þi giltes as þou forȝeuest ham [[MS. ham]] þat agilten þe be ful wil; war þat þou be not oute of charite; [1044] ¶ þis holy orison amenuseþ eke venyal sinne; And þerefor it apperteneþ specialy to penytence;

[1045] ¶ þis preyer most bu trewly seide in verray faiþe & þat men prey to god ordinately; dis|cretely & deuoutely; ¶ Alweye aman schal put his wille to be subiecte to þe wil of god; [1046] ¶ þis orison most eke be seide with grete humblesse & pure honestly. & nouht to anoyance of any man; or womman. ¶ It moste eke be continued with þe werkes of charite; = [1047] It avayleþ eke aȝeynes þe vices of þe soule; ¶ For as seiþe seint Ierom; Be fastinge bien saued þe vices of flesche; & be preiers þe vices of soule;
