[1019] þou schalt not eke make no lesinge in þi confessione; ffor humilite peraduenture to seie þat þou hast done sinnes of whiche þou were neuer gilte [1020] ¶ For seinte seiþe; If þou because of humylite makest lesinge of þi self þouhe þou ne were nouȝt in sinne a forne ȝit ert þou þan in sinne þoruhe þi lessinges [1021] ¶ þou muste eke schewe þi sinne by þi propre mouþe bot þou be wax domme; & nouht be no letter; ffor þou þat hast don sinne þou schalt haue þe same confesse [1022] ¶ þou schalt nouȝt eke peynte þi confession be faire & subtile wordes to keuer þe more þi sinne; ffor þan begiles þou þi self & not þe priste; þou most tel it platlye be it neuere so foule ne so orrible; [1023] þou schalt schriue þe eke to a priste þat is discrete to counseil þe; & eke þou schalt nouht schriue þe for veyne glorye ne for ypocrisye ne for no cause bott onely for þe deute of ihesu criste; & þe hele of þi soule; [1024] ¶ þou schalt not eke rinne to þe priste al sodenly to tel him þine sinne as who so telleþ a Iape or a tale; bo avysyly & wiþe grete deuocyon; [1025] & generaly schriue þe ofte.
