[verse 1] These ben the wordis of boond [the boond IKS.] of pees, which the Lord comaundide to Moyses, that he schulde smyte [make IS.] with the sones of Israel in the lond of Moab, outakun that [the ELP.] bond of pees, which [that IS.] he couenauntide with hem in Oreb. [verse 2] And Moises clepid al Is|rael,

and seide [he seide IS.] to hem, Ȝe sien [han seen IS.] alle thingis whiche the Lord dide [hath do IS.] bifor ȝou in the lond of Egipt, to Farao and alle [to alle IS.] [verse 3] hise seruauntis, and to al his lond; the greet temptaciouns whiche thin iȝen sien [han seen IS.] , `tho signes [the tokenes IS.] , and grete [the grete IS.] wondris. [verse 4] And the Lord ȝaf not to [Om. IS.] ȝou an herte vndur|stondynge, and iȝen seynge, and eeris that [whiche S.] moun here, til in to present [this present IS.] dai [dai for ȝoure vnfeithfulnesse IS.] . [verse 5] He ledde [hath ledde S.] ȝou bi [Om. I.] fourti ȝeer thoruȝ [bi IS.] deseert; ȝoure clothis weren not brokun [to rent IS.] , nether the schoon of ȝoure feet weren waastid bi [verse 6] eldnesse; ȝe eetun not breed [of ȝoure owne traueile S.] , ȝe [neither ȝe I. ne ȝe S.] drunken not [Om. IS.] wyn and sidur, that ȝe schulden wite that he is ȝoure Lord God. [verse 7] And ȝe camen to this place; and Seon, the kyng of Ese|bon ȝede out, and Og, the kyng of Basan, and camen [thei camen IS.] to us to batel. And we han [Om. I.] [verse 8] smyte [smoten I.] hem, and we token awey the [her IS.] lond `of hem [Om. I. fro hem S.] , and we ȝauen `the lond [it IS.] to pos|sessioun, to Ruben, and to Gad, and to the half lynage of Manasses. [verse 9] Therfor kepe ȝe the wordis of this couenaunt, and fille [fulfille IS.] ȝe tho [hem S.] , that ȝe vndirstonde all thingis whiche ȝe schulen do. [verse 10] Alle ȝe stonden to day bifor ȝoure Lord God, ȝoure princes, and lynagis, and the gret|tere men in birthe, and techeris [ȝoure doctours IS.] , al the [verse 11] puple of Israel, fre [ȝoure fre IS.] children, and ȝoure wyues, and comelyngis [the comelyngis IS.] that dwellen with thee in castels [the tentis I. tentis S.] , outakun the heweris of stonus [trees A sec. m.] , and outakun hem [thei IS.] that beren wa|tris; [watir I.] [verse 12] that thou go in [into S.] the boond of pees of thi Lord God, and in the ooth which [that IS.] [verse 13] thi Lord God [Om. I pr. m. S.] smytith with thee, that he reise thee in [vp in IS.] to a puple to hym silf, and that he be thi Lord God, as he spak to thee, and as he swoor [hath swoor I. stidfastly bihiȝte S.] to thi fadris, to [Om. I.] Abraham, Ysaac, and Jacob [to Jacob S.] . [verse 14] And not to ȝou aloone Y smyte [make IS.] this loond of pees, [verse 15] and conferme these othis [biheestis IS.] , but to alle men,

present and absent. [verse 16] For ȝe witen hou we dwelliden in the lond of Egipt, and how we passiden bi the myddis of naciouns; [verse 17] whiche ȝe passiden, and siȝen abhomyna|ciouns and filthis, that is, idols [the idols I. her idols S.] `of hem [Om. S.] , tre [and tre S.] and stoon, siluer and gold, whiche thei worschipiden. [verse 18] Lest perauenture a|mong ȝou be man ether womman, meyne ether lynage, whos herte is turned away to dai fro ȝoure Lord God, that he go, and serue the goddis of tho folkis; and a roote [a roote, etc. that is, ony man corrupt bi idolatrie that corrumpe othere men bi his wickid tising. BC.] buriounnynge galle and bitternesse [verse 19] be among ȝou; and whanne he hath herd the [tho I.] wordis of this ooth, he blesse hym silf [hym silf stabli purposinge S.] [he blesse him silf; that is, biheete for|ȝyuenesse to him silf, and so breke more tristily Goddis lawe. C.] in his herte, and seie, Pees schal be to me, and Y schal go in the schrewid|nesse of myn herte; and lest the drunkun [verse 20] take the thirsti, and the Lord forgyue not to hym, but thanne ful greetli his strong veniaunce be feers, and the [his IS.] feruour [feruour berst out S.] aȝens that man, and alle the cursis that ben writun in this book `sitte on [reste vpon IS.] hym; and `the Lord [he I.] do away his name vndur [fro vndur S.] he|uene, [verse 21] and waaste hym in to perdicioun [losinge S.] fro alle the lynagis of Israel, bi the cursis that ben conteyned in the book of this lawe and of boond [the boond IS.] of pees. [verse 22] And the ge|neracioun suynge [Om. S.] schal seie, and the sones that schulen be borun aftirward, and pil|grimys that schulen come fro fer, seynge the veniauncis of that lond, and the sike|nessis bi whiche the Lord turmentide that [verse 23] lond, brennynge `that lond [it IS.] with brym|ston and heete of the sunne, so that it be no more sowun, nether bringe forth ony grene thing, in to ensaumple of destriyng of Sodom and of [Om. ILS.] Gommorre, of Adama and of Seboym, whiche the Lord destriede in his ire [wraththe IS.] and stronge veniaunce. [verse 24] And alle folkis schulen seie, Whi dide the Lord so to this lond? What [What or hou grete S.] is the greet ire [wraththe IS.] of [verse 25] his [this I.] stronge veniaunce? and thei schulen answere, For thei forsoken the couenaunt of the Lord, whiche [that IS.] he couenauntide with her fadris, whanne he ledde hem out of

[verse 26] the lond of Egipt, and thei serueden alien goddis, and worschipiden hem, whiche thei knewen not, and to whiche thei weren not [verse 27] ȝouun [taken to IS.] ; therfor the strong veniaunce of the Lord was wrooth aȝens this lond, that he brouȝte yn on [vpon IS.] it alle the cursis that [verse 28] ben writun in this book; and he castide [hath cast IS.] hem out of her lond, in ire [wrath IS.] and strong veniaunce, and in gretteste [ful gret I.] indignacioun; and he castide [hath throwen hem IS.] forth in to an alien lond, as it is preued to dai. [verse 29] Thingis [Dyuers thingis S.] ben hid [hid or preuy S.] [thingis ben hid, etc. Ebrews expown|en thus, synnes hid fro God ben reserued to dampnacioun; whiche ben schewid to vs, that is, ben punyschid by mannus doom.
