IS.] , be turned awai fro Israel. [verse 5] And Moises seide to the iugis of Israel, Ech man sle his neiȝboris, that maden sacrifice to Belpha|gor. [verse 6] And, lo! oon of the sones of Israel entride [entride boldely S.] bifor his britheren to `an hoore [a strumpett IS.] of Madian, in the siȝt of Moises, and al [of al CS.] the cumpeny of the sones of Israel, whiche [the whiche I.] wepten [for hidoustee of the vile synne S marg.] bifor the ȝatis of the tabernacle. [verse 7] And whanne Phynees, the sone of Elea|zar, sone [the sone IS.] of Aaron, preest [the preest I.] , hadde seyn this [vnshamfast doing S marg.] , he roos fro the myddis of the mul|titude; and whanne he hadde take a [Om. B.] [verse 8] swerd, he entride aftir the man of Israel in to [Om. And the veniaunce ceesside fro the sones [verse 9] of Israel, and foure and twenti thousand of men weren slayn. [verse 10] And the Lord seide [verse 11] to Moises, Fynees, the sone of Eleazar, sone [the sone BN.] of Aaron, preest, turnede [hath turnede IS.] away myn yre [wrath IS.] fro the sones of Israel; for he was stirid [moued IS.] aȝens hem bi my feruent loue, that Y my silf schulde [Om. S.] not do awai the sones of Israel in my greet hete [feruentnesse I. feruentnesse of veniaunce S.] , `ether strong veniaunce [Om. IS.] . [verse 12] Therfor speke thou to hym, Lo!
