[verse 1] And the Lord spak to Moises, `and seide [seiynge IS.] , [verse 2] Speke thou to the sones of Israel, and take thou ȝerdis, bi her kynredis, bi ech kyn|rede o [a IS.] ȝeerde, take thou of alle the princes of the lynagis twelue ȝerdis; and thou schalt write the name of each lynage [verse 3] aboue [vpon IS.] his ȝerde; forsothe [sothely IS.] the name of Aaron schal be [be writen IS.] in the lynage of Leuy, and o ȝerde schal conteyne alle the meynees of hem [hem, that is, of the meynees of the lynage of Leuy BCGKQX. thee; the ȝerde of hym schal buriowne, [verse 5] whom Y schal chese of hem [hem to the office of presthoode S.] ; and Y schal [schal herbi S.] refreyne [refreyne or quenche S.] fro me the playnyngis [pleynyngis or grucchingis S.] of the sones of Israel, bi whiche thei grutchen aȝens ȝou. [verse 10] And the Lord seide to Moises, Bere [Bere thou IS.] aȝen the ȝerde of Aaron in to the tabernacle of witnessyng, that it be kept there in to `the signe [a tokene IS.] of the rebel sones of Israel, and that her `playntis reste [playnyngis ceesse I. pleynynges or grucchinges ceese S.] fro me, lest thei dien. [verse 11] And Moises dide, as the Lord comaundide. [verse 12] For|sothe [sothely IS.] the sones of Israel seiden to Moises, Lo! we ben wastid, alle we perischiden [han perishede IS.] ; [verse 13] who euer neiȝeth to the tabernacle of the Lord, he dieth; whethir [wher, etc. thei seiden this, not in grucch|inge aȝenus God, but in ax|inge remedy, and therfor thei weren not pu|nischid.
