CAP. V.
[verse 1] Aftir these thingis Moises and Aaron entriden, and seiden to Farao, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, Delyuere thou my puple, that it make sacrifice to me in deseert. [verse 2] And he [Pharao IS.] answeride, Who is the Lord, that Y here his vois, and de|lyuere Israel? I knowe not the Lord, and [Om. ELP.] Y schal not delyuere Israel. [verse 3] Thei seiden, God of Ebrews clepide vs, that we go the weie of thre daies in to wildirnesse, and [Om. F.] that we make sacrifice to oure Lord God, lest perauenture pestilence, ether [or ELP.] swerd, bifalle to vs. [verse 4] The kyng of Egipt seide to hem, Moises and Aaron, whi stiren ȝe the puple fro her werkis? Go ȝe to ȝoure chargis. [verse 5] And Farao seide, The puple of the loond is myche; ȝe seen that the [Om. DFG.] cum|pany hath encreessid; hou myche more schal it encreesse, if ȝe schulen ȝyue to hem [it IS.] reste fro werkis. [verse 6] Therfor Farao co|maundide in that dai to the maistris of werkis, and to [Om. C.] rente [the rente EIKS.] gadereris of the [verse 7] puple, and seide, Ȝe schulen no more ȝyue stre [cheff I.] to the puple, to make tijl stoonys as bifore [ȝe han do bifore IS.] ; but go thei, and gedere stobil; [verse 8] and ȝe schulen sette on hem the mesure of tijl stoonys, which thei maden bifore, ne|ther ȝe schulen abate ony thing; for thei ben idil, and [Om. G.] therfor thei crien, and seien, Go we, and make we sacrifice to oure [verse 9] God [Lord D.] ; be thei oppressid bi werkis, and fille [fulfulle IS.] thei tho, that thei assente not to the [Om. plures.] false wordis. [verse 10] Therfor the maistris of the workis and the rente gadereris ȝeden out to the puple, and seiden, Thus seith Fa|rao, [verse 11] Y ȝyue not to ȝou stre [cheff I.] ; go ȝe, and gadere [gadre ȝe BIKS.] , if ȝe moun fynde ony where; ne|ther ony thing schal be decreessid [maad lesse IS.] of ȝoure werk [werkis IS.] . [verse 12] And the puple was scaterid bi al the lond of Egipt to gadre stre. [verse 13] And the maystris of werkis [the werkis IS.] weren bisi, and seiden, Fille [Fulfille IS.] ȝe ȝoure werk ech dai, as ȝe weren wont to do, whanne the [that IS.] stre was ȝouun
