was coumfortid, and sat [sat vp IS.] in the bed. [verse 3] And whanne Joseph entride to hym, he seide, Almyȝti God apperide to me in Luza, which [that IS.] is in the lond of Canaan, and [verse 4] blesside me, and seide, Y schal encreesse and [thee and B.] multiplie thee, and Y schal make thee in to cumpanyes of puplis, and Y schal ȝyue to thee this lond, and to thi seed aftir thee, in to euerlastinge possessioun. [verse 5] Ther|for thi twei sones, that ben borun to thee in the lond of Egipt bifore that Y cam hidir to thee, schulen be myne, Effraym and Manasses as Ruben and Symeon [verse 6] schulen be arettid to me; forsothe the othere [tothere K.] whiche thou schalt gendre [gete I.] aftir hem schulen be thine; and thei schulen be clepid bi the name of her britheren in her possessiouns [possessioun E.] . [verse 7] Forsothe whanne Y cam fro Mesopotamye, Rachel was deed to me in the lond of Canaan, in thilke weie; and it was the [Om. E. in the G.] bigynnyng of somer [the somer DN pr. m. QRTX sec. m.] ; and Y entride in to Effrata, and beriede [briede A. I beriede IS.] hir bi|sidis the weie of Effrata, which [the which I.] bi an|othir name is clepid Bethleem. [verse 8] Forsothe Jacob seiȝ the sones of Joseph, and seide [he seide IS.] to him, Who ben these? [verse 9] He answeride, Thei ben my sones, whiche [that IS.] God ȝaf to [Om. IS.] me in this place. Jacob seide [seide to him E.] , Brynge [brynge ȝe F.] hem to me that Y blesse hem. [verse 10] For `the iȝen of Israel [Israel iȝen S.] , dasewiden for greet eelde, and he myȝte not se clereli; and he kisside and collide tho children ioyned to hym, [verse 11] and seide [he seide FIS.] to his sone, Y am not defraudid of thi siȝt; ferthermore God schewide [hath schewide I.] to me thi seed. [verse 12] And whanne Joseph hadde take hem fro `the fadris [his fadir I. his fadris S.] lappe, he wor|schipide lowe to [in to C pr. m.] erthe [the erthe BEGIKSX sec. m.] . [verse 13] And he sette [settide FGKMNS.] Effraym on his riȝt side, that is, on the lift side of Israel; forsothe he settide [sette EILPS.] Ma|nasses in [on IS.] his lift side, that is, on the riȝt side of the [his IS.] fadir; and he ioynede bothe to hym. [verse 14] Which [The which I.] helde forth the riȝt hond, and settide [sette ELMP. leide it IS.] on `the heed of Effraym [Effraym heed S.] , the lesse [lest E. ȝoungere IS.] brothir; sotheli he settide [sette LMP. leide IS.] the [his IS.] left
