CAP. XLII.
[verse 1] Forsothe Jacob herde that foodis weren seeld in Egipt, and he seide to hise sones, Whi ben ȝe necgligent? [verse 2] Y herde that wheete is seeld in Egipt, go ȝe doun, and bie ȝe necessaries to vs, that we moun lyue, and be not wastid bi [with K.] nedynesse. [verse 3] Therfor ten britheren of Joseph ȝeden doun [verse 4] to [that thei schul C pr. man.] bie wheete in Egipt, and Beniamyn was withholdun [biholdun D.] of Jacob at hoome, that [the whiche Jacob I. whiche Jacob S.] seide to hise [the I. Beniamyns S.] britheren [britheren of Beniamyn I.] , Lest perauenture in the weie he suffre ony yuel [yuel, be he at hoom I.] . [verse 5] Sotheli thei entriden in to the lond of Egipt, with othere men that ȝeden [ȝeden thidir IS.] to bie [bie corn IS.] ; forsothe hungur was in the lond of Canaan. [verse 6] And Joseph was prince [the prince IS.] of Egipt, and at his wille whetis weren seeld to puplis. And whanne hise britheren hadden worschipid [verse 7] hym, and he hadde knowe hem, he spak hardere [hardere to hem I. h. thingis to hem S.] as to aliens, and axide hem, Fro whennus camen ȝe? Whiche answeriden, Fro the lond of Canaan, that we bie ne|cessaries to lyiflode [oure lyiflode IS.] . [verse 8] And netheles he knewe the [his IS.] britheren, and he was not [verse 9] knowun of hem, and he bithouȝte on the dremys whiche [that IS.] he seiȝ sumtyme. [the whiche G.]
