[verse 1] Thow shalt not see the oxe of thi bro|ther, other [or C.] sheep errynge, and biside passe, but thow shalt leede aȝen to thi brother. [verse 2] And if he is not thi niȝ brothir, ne knowist hym, thow shalt lede into thin hows, and thei shulen be anentis thee, as long as thi brothir sechith hem, and resseyue. [verse 3] Lijk maner thow shalt doo of asse, and of clothinge, and of al thing of thi brother, that is lost; if thow fynde [fyndist E.] it, ne leeue it as alyen. [verse 4] If thou seest the asse of thi brother, or oxe, to haue faln in the weie, thow shalt not dispise, but vndur heeue with hym. [verse 5] A womman shal not be clothid [clad C.] with man|nus [a mannus CE.] clothinge, ne man shal vse wom|mannus clothing; abomynable forsothe anentis God he is, that doth thes thingis. [verse 13] If a man taak a wijf, [verse 14] and afterward haue hir to haat, and sech|ith occasioun bi the which he leeue hir, and castynge aȝens hyr a moost yuel name, and seye, This wijf I haue take, and goon yn to hir I foond hyr not [verse 15] mayde; the fadir and the moder of hir shulen taak hir, and bere with hem the toknes of hir maydynhod to the aldre men of the citee, that ben in the ȝate; [verse 16] and the fader shal seye, My douȝter I haue ȝyue wijf to this, whom for he [verse 17] hatith, he puttith to hir a moost yuel name, that he seye, I haue not founde thi dowȝter mayde; and loo! thes ben the tokens of the meydynhod of my douȝter; and thei shulen spreede out the clothing before the `aldre men [eldres C. aldryn E.] of the cytee. [verse 19] shulen beet hym, condempnynge also in an hundrid siclys of siluer, `the whiche [that C.] he shal ȝyue to the fader of the mayde, for he hath loosed the moost yuel name vpon a maydyn [maide C.] of Yrael; and he shal haue hir to wijf, and he shal not mowe leeue hir, al the tyme of his lijf. [verse 20] And if it is soth, that he putte aȝens hyr [Om. BCEFH.] , and is not in the womman founden maydenhod, [verse 21] thei shulen throw hir out of the ȝatis of the hows of hir fader; and men of that citee shulen throw hyr down with stonus, and she shal dye, for she hath doon an vnleful thing in Yrael, that she dide lecherie in the hows of hir fader; and thow shalt doo awei yuel fro the myddil of thee. [verse 22] If a man sleep with the wijf of another, eyther shal die, that is, the auowtreer and the auowtresse; and thow shalt do awey yuel fro Yrael. [verse 23] If a wom|man mayden [maide C.] a man spowse, and eny man in the cytee fynde hir, and lye with [verse 24] hir, thow shalt lede either to the ȝate of that cytee, and thei shulen be throwun doun with stonus; the maydyn [Om. A.] , for she cryed not, whanne she was in the cytee; the man, for he hath mekid the wijf of his neiȝbour; and thow shalt doo awey yuel fro the myddil of thee. [verse 25] Forsothe if in the feeld a man fynde a womman that is spowsid, and takynge ligge [li C.] with hir, [verse 26] he shal dye alone; the womman no thing shal suffre, ne is gilti of deeth; for as a theef rysith aȝens his brother, and sleeth the soule of hym, so and the womman [verse 27] hath suffred; aloone she was in the feeld, and criede, and no man was niȝ that myȝt delyuer hir.
