[verse 1] And oon of the seuen aungels cam, that hadden seuen violes, and spake with me, seiynge [seyyng to me O. and seide V.] , Come thou, I [and I O.] shal shewe to thee the dampnacioun of the greet [verse 2] hoore, that sittith on many watirs, with whiche [the whiche NOQ.] kynges of erthe diden fornyca|cioun; and thei that dwellen [dwelliden O.] in [on Q.] erthe ben ful drunkun of the [Om. X.] wijn of hir leccherie. [verse 3] And he toke `me awey [awey me V.] in to desert in spirit. And I siȝe a womman sittynge on a reed beest, ful of namys of blasfemye, hauynge [and hafyng O.] seuen heedes [heuedes O.] , and ten hornes. [verse 4] And the womman was enuyround with purpur, and coccyn, `that is [or ANOQS. either V. Om. X.] , reed [Om. X.] , and engoldid [ouer gilt V.] with gold, and with [Om. ANOQSVX.] precious stoon, and peerlis, hauynge a golden cuppe in hir hond, ful of abhomynaciouns and vnclennesse [vnclennesses X.] of hir fornycacioun. [verse 5] And in the forhed [foreheued O.] of hir a name writun, Mysterie, Babilon the greet, modir of fornycaciouns [fornycacioun N.] , and of [Om. ANOQS. not of G.] abhomynaciouns of erthe. [verse 6] And I siȝe a womman drunken of the blood of seyntis, and of the [Om. ANQSV.] blood of martirs of Jhesu. And whan I siȝe hir, I wondride with greet wondringe. [verse 7] And the aungel seide to me, Whi won|drist thou? I shal seie to thee the [Om. N.] sacra|ment of the [this NS.] womman, and of the beest that berith hir, that hath seuen [the seuen Q.] heedes [heuedis O.] and ten hornes. [verse 8] The beest whom [whiche ANOQSV. that X.] thou siȝe [saiest ANOQ. siȝest V.] , was, and is not; and she `is to [schal V.] stiȝ|ing [steȝen SX. stiȝe V.] vp [Om. V.] fro [fro the S.] depnesse, and she shal go in to perisching. And men dwellinge in erthe shulen wondre, whois names ben not write in the book of lijf fro makynge of the world, seeynge the beest, that was, and is not. [verse 9] And this is witt [the wit V.] , that hath wisdom. The seuen heedes [heuedes O.] ben seuen hilles, on whom [whiche ANQSVX. the which O.] the womman sittith [sitt X.] ,
