CAP. XI.

[verse 1] And a `mesure lijk to [reeid, either mesure, lijk V.] a ȝerd is [was V.] ȝouun to me, and it is [was V.] seid to me, Rise thou, and mete the temple of God, and the auter, and men worschipinge in it. [verse 2] For|sothe caste [caste thou V.] out the porche [forȝerd V.] , that is with out forth [Om. V.] the temple, and mete it not; for it is ȝouun to hethen men, and thei shulen defoule the holy citee bi fourty monethis and two [twenti A. tweyne NOQV.] . [verse 3] And I shal ȝiue to my two [tweye NOQV.] witnesses, and thei shulen prophecie a thousynd dayes two hundrid and sixty, thei [Om. TX. and thei schulen be V.] clothid [clad SX.] with sackis. [verse 4] Thes ben two [tweyne ANOQV.] olyues, and two [twey ANOQV.] candelstickes, `ȝeuynge liȝt [Om. V.] , thei [Om. QTX. and thei V.] stondinge [stonden V.] in the [Om. T.] siȝt of the Lord of erthe. [verse 5] And if ony man `shal wolen [wole V.] for [Om. SVX.] to anoiȝe [noȝen S.] hem, fijr shal go out of the mouth of hem, and shal de|uoure her enemyes. And if ony [eny man T.] `shal wolen [wole V.] for [Om. SVX.] to hirte hem, thus it bihoueth him [hem N.] for [Om. SX.] to be slayn. [verse 6] Thes han power `of shittinge [for to schitte O. to schitte V.] heuen, that it rayne not in the [tho T.] dayes [dai X.] of her prophecie [prophecies X.] ; and thei han power on [of N. vpon T.] watirs, `of turnynge hem [to turne V.] in to blood; and for [Om. SX.] to smyte the erthe with `al plage [a wonde O. al wounde T. al plage, either veniaunce V.] , and hou ofte euer thei `shulen

wole [wolen V.] . [verse 7] And whan thei shulen ende her witnessing, the beest that stiȝeth [stiede O.] up of [fro V.] the [Om. V.] depnesse [depthe S.] , shal make bateyl [batals A.] aȝens hem, and [and he S.] shal ouercome hem, and shal [Om. X.] slee hem. [verse 8] And the bodies of hem shulen ligge [lyn SX.] in the streetis of the grete citee, that is clepid goostly [Om. T.] Sodom, and Egipt, where the Lord of hem was crucified. [verse 9] And `thei shulen see [summe V.] of lynagis, and of puplis, and tungis [tungis, or langagis ANS. of tungis T. of langagis V.] , and [and of TV.] hethen men, the [schulen see the V.] bodies of hem bi thre dayes and an half; and `the bodies of hem shulen not be suf|frid [thei schulen not suffre the bodies of hem V.] for [Om. SX.] to be put in biriels. [verse 10] And men enhabitinge the erthe shulen haue ioye vpon [on ANQSVX. vp G pr. m. of O.] hem; and thei shulen make myry [ioye T.] , and [and thei AQS.] sende [schulen seend AG sec. m. OQSVX.] ȝiftes to gydere, for thes two [twey ANOQSV.] prophetes tourmentiden hem that dwellen on [vpon OT. in P.] erthe. [verse 11] And aftir thre dayes and an half, the spirit of `lijf of [Om. O.] God entride in to hem; and thei stoden on [vpon T.] her feet, and greet drede fel on [vpon T.] hem that siȝen hem. [verse 12] And thei herden a greet voys fro heuen, seiynge to hem, Stiȝe [Stie ȝe ANOT. Steȝith SX.] up hidir. And thei stiȝeden [stiȝeden vp T.] in to heuen in a cloude, and the enemyes of hem siȝen hem. [verse 13] And in that hour a greet erthe mouyng is [was V.] maad, and the tenthe paart of the citee fel [fel doun V.] ; and `ther ben [the names of men seuene thousind weren V.] slayn in the erthe mouyng the [Om. OV.] `names of men seuen thousynd [Om. V.] ; and `the tother [that other Q.] ben [weren V.] sent [sent, or putte T.] in [in to A pr. m. VX.] drede, and ȝauen glory to God of heuen. [verse 14] The secounde woo wente [wente, or is gon ANS. is goon V.] , and lo! the thridde woo shal come soone. [verse 15] And the seuenthe aungel song in trumpe, and greete voices ben [weren V.] maad in heuen, seiynge [and seiden V.] , The reume of this world is maad `oure Lordis [of oure Lord G sec. m. of oure God T.] , and of [Om. ANOQSVX.] Cristis [Crist G sec. m.] , his sone; and thei shulen regne in to worldlis of worldlis. [verse 16] Amen. And the foure and twenty senyoures [elder men OT.] , `or elder

men [Om. ANOQSTVX.] , that sitten in her seetes in the siȝt of the Lord, fellen `in to [on V.] her facis, and [verse 17] worschipiden God [the Lord NO.] , seiynge [and seiden V.] , We don thankinges to thee [thee, Lord O.] , Lord [Om. V.] God almiȝty, which [the whiche S. that X.] art, and which [that X.] was [were SVX.] , and which [that SX.] art to comynge [comen STX.] ; which [that X.] hast takun thi [Om. T.] greet vertu, and hast regnyd. [verse 18] And folkes ben wrothe, and thi wrath cam, and tyme of deede men for [Om. SX.] to be demyd, and for [Om. SX.] to ȝelde hijre to thi seruauntis, and [Om. S.] prophe|tis, and halewis, and dredinge thi name, to smale and litle [greete VX.] , and `of destriynge [Om. O. destriynge P. of destruyng, or outlawyng T. to distroie V.] hem that corrumpeden the erthe.
