CAP. II.
[verse 1] Therfore puttinge [putte ȝe V.] awey al malice, and al gyle, and symulaciouns [feynynges O.] , `or feynynges [Om. OQX.] , [verse 2] `and enuyes [Om. O.] , and `al detraccioun [al detracciouns G pr. m. N. oold tradicions O. alle detracciouns V.] ; as now gendrid ȝonge children [childre S.] , resonable, with oute gyle, coueyte ȝe mylk [mylk of ful teching V.] , that in it ȝe [verse 3] wexe in to helthe; if netheles ȝe taastiden, for [that NV.] the Lord is swete. [verse 4] `To whom ȝe go|ynge nyȝe [And neiȝe ȝe to him V.] , a quyk stoon, reproued sotheli of men, forsothe [but V.] chosen of God, and ho|nourid, [verse 5] and ȝoure [ȝe ANV. ȝou OSX. ȝe ȝoure Q.] silf as quike stoones be [beth QSX.] aboue bildid [bildid in to V.] spiritual housis, holy prest|hod, for [Om. SX.] to offre spiritual hoostes [sacrifices V.] , `or offringes [Om. OVX.] , acceptable to God bi Jhesu Crist. [verse 6] For which thing the scripture holdith, Lo! I shal putte in Syon `the hiȝest stoon [a stoon heiȝest ANOQSVX.] , corner [a corner TY.] stoon, chosen, pre|cious; and he that shal bileue in to him, shal not be confoundid. [verse 7] Therfore honour to ȝou bileuynge; forsothe to men not bileuynge, the stoon whom `thei bildynge [the bylderis V.] reproueden, this is maad in to the heed [heued O.] [verse 8] of the [Om. OV.] corner; and the stoon of offencioun [hirtynge O.] , `or hirtynge [Om. OQX.] , and stoon [the stoon N.] of sclaundre, to hem that offenden [offendeden Q.] bi word, nether bileuen, in which and [Om. V.] thei ben put. [verse 9] Forsothe ȝe ben a `kynde chosun [chosen kyn V.] , kyngly [kyndely O.] presthod, holy folk, puple of purchasinge, that ȝe telle the vertues of him, that clepide ȝou fro derknesses in to his [Om. S.] wondirful liȝt.
