Men [My O.] bretheren, and fadris, heere ȝe. God [The God V.] of glorie apperide to oure fadir Abra|ham, whanne he was in Mesopotanye, bi|fore [verse 3] he dwelte in Carram, and seide to him, Go out of thi lond, and of [Om. S.] thi cog|nacioun [kynreden O.] , `or kynrede [either kynrede V. Om. OQX.] , and come into the lond, `the which [whom GMPQTY. which V. that X.] I schal schewe to thee. [verse 4] Thanne he wente out of the lond of Cal|deys, and dwelte in Carram. And thennis [fro thennes V.] aftir that his [Om. N.] fadir was deed, he trans|latide hym into this lond, in which ȝe dwellen now. [verse 5] And he ȝaf not to him heritage in it, nother a paas of foot, but

he aȝenbihiȝte for [Om. X.] to ȝyue to him it into possescioun, and to his seed aftir him, whanne he hadde not a sone. [verse 6] Forsoth God spak to him, For [That V.] his seed schal [shulde X.] be cumelyng [a comelyng MPQTY.] , `or gest [Om. OQVX.] , in an alien lond, and thei schulen `sugette hem [make hem soget V.] to seruage, and schulen yuele trete hem, foure hundrid [verse 7] ȝeeris [ȝer SX.] `and thritty [Om. O.] ; and I schal iuge the folk, to which [the whiche S.] thei schulen serue, seith the Lord. And aftir these thingis thei schulen go out, and thei schulen serue to me in this place. [verse 8] And he ȝaf to him [hem O.] the [a PQT.] testament of circumcisioun; and so he gendride Ysaac, and circumcidide him in the eiȝtith day. And Ysaac gendride [Om. X.] Jacob, and Jacob [Jacob gendride V.] the twelue patriarkis. [verse 9] And the patriarkis hauynge [had|den V.] enuye to Jo|seph, solden [and seelden V.] hym into Egipt. And God [verse 10] was with hym, and delyuerede him of alle his tribulaciouns, and ȝaf to him grace and wysdom in the siȝt of Pharao, kyng of Egipt. And he ordeynede him pre|post [prouoost MPQTY. souereyn O.] , `or souereyn [Om. OQX.] , on [in K.] Egipt, and [Om. G.] on al his hous. [verse 11] Forsoth hungir cam into al Egipt, and Canaan, and greet tribula|cioun; and oure fadris founden not metis. [verse 12] Forsoth whanne Jacob herde [hadde herd that V.] , whete `for to be [to be SX sec. m. was V. to be sold X pr. m.] in Egipt, he sente oure fadris first. [verse 13] And in [Om. N.] the secunde tyme Josep was knowyn of his britheren, and his kyn is [was V.] maad knowun to Pharao. [verse 14] Forsothe Jo|sep sendynge [sente and clepide V.] clepide to [to him GT. Om. V.] Jacob, his fa|dir, and al his cognacioun, in [into Q.] soulis [men V.] seuenty and fyue. [verse 15] And Jacob dessend|ide [cam doun V.] into Egipt, and is [was V.] deed, he and oure [verse 16] fadris; and thei ben [weren V.] translatid into Si|chen, and ben [weren V.] putt in the sepulcre, that Abraham bouȝte by priys of siluer of the sones of Emor, the sone of Sichen. [verse 17] For|soth whanne the tyme of biheeste cam nyȝ, the [Om. V.] which God hadde knowlechid to Abraham, the peple waxe, and was [Om. V.] mul|tiplied [verse 18]

[verse 21] Forsoth him [whanne he was V.] putt out, the douȝtir of Pharao took him vp, and norischide him into a sone to hir. [verse 22] And Moyses was lernd [lerud AMNQSTX.] in [Om. N.] al [Om. A.] the [Om. S.] wysdom of Egipcians, and he was myȝty in his wordis and werkis. [verse 23] Forsoth whanne the tyme of twenti [fourti NV.] ȝeer was fulfillid [fillid V.] to him, it stiȝede vp into [to A pr. m. N. in SX.] his herte, that he schulde visite his bretheren, the sones of Israel. [verse 24] And whanne he syȝ sum [Om. G pr. m. a MPQTY.] man suffringe wrong, he vengide him, and dide veniaunce to him that suffride wrong; the [and he kyllide the V.] Egipcian slayn [Om. V.] . [verse 25] Forsoth he gesside bretheren [that his brother V.] `for to [to SX. schulde V.] vndirstonde, for [that OV.] God by the hond of hym schulde ȝyue to hem heelthe; but thei vndirstoden not. [verse 26] For|soth in the day suynge he apperide to hem chidinge, and [and he AGMNOPQSTVXY.] recounsilide hem in pees, seyinge [and seide V.] , Men, ȝe ben bretheren [brether X.] ; wherto [whi V.] noyen ȝe ech othir [to othere T.] ? [verse 27] Forsoth he that dide wrong to his neiȝebore, puttide [put OSX.] him awey, seyinge, Who ordeynede thee prince and domesman vpon [on MPQSVXY. in T.] vs? [verse 28] Wher [Whether X.] thou wolt sle me, as ȝistirday thou killid|ist the Egipcian? [verse 29] Forsothe in this word Moyses flyȝ, and was maad a comeling in [into O.] the lond of Madian, where he gendride twey [two GMPQSTY.] sones. [verse 30] And fourty [whanne he hadde fillid fourty V.] ȝeer fulfillid [Om. V.] , an aungel apperide to him in fyer of flame of a boisch, in desert of the mount of Syna. [verse 31] Forsothe Moyses seynge [siȝ, and V.] won|dride

God sente this prince and aȝenbyer, with the hond of the aungel, that apperide to hym in the boisch. book of prophetis [the prophetis N.] , Where [Whether S et X passim.] ȝe [ȝe hous of Israel V.] offriden to me slayn sacrificis, `or oostis [Om. OQX. either sacrifices V.] , fourty ȝeeris [ȝer X.] in desert, ȝe [the K. Om. V.] `hous of Israel [Om. V.] ? [verse 43] And ȝe han takun the [Om. X.] tabernacle of Moloc, and the sterre of ȝoure god Rempham, figuris that ȝe han maad for [Om. SX.] to worshipe hem; and I schal translate ȝou into Ba|biloyne. [verse 44] The tabernacle of witnessing was with oure fadris in desert, as God disposide to hem, spekinge [and spac V.] to Moyses, that he schulde make it vp [bi V.] the foorme that he syȝ. [verse 45] The [Om. VX.] which and oure fadris takinge [token V.] `with Jhesu, brouȝten [broȝten with Jhesu S. with Jhesus, and brouȝten V.] into pos|sescioun [the possessioun MPVY.] of hethen men, the [Om. [verse 48] But the hiȝe [heeȝ God GNV. alderheȝest T.] dwellith not in maade thingis [verse 49] by hond, as he seith by the prophete, He|uene is a [Om. [verse 55] Forsothe whanne Stheuene was ful [fulfillide Q.] of the Hooly Gost, he biholdinge [biheeld V.] into heuene, syȝ [and say V.] the glorie of God, and Jhesu stond|inge on [of T.] the riȝthalf of the vertu of God. And he seith [seide V.] , Lo! I see heuenes openyd, and the sone of man stondinge on the riȝt half of the vertu of God. [verse 56] Forsoth thei criynge [crieden V.] with grete voises [voice GMNPSTVXY. noys Q.] , heelden [and heelden V.] to gidere her eeris [heren O.] , and maden `to gidere [with OO wille V.] asauȝt, `or feersnesse [Om. X.] , in to him. [verse 57] And thei castinge [castiden V.] him out of the cytee stoon|yden [stooned him O. and stoneden V.] . And witnessis [the witnessis PQTY.] diden of her clothis, bisydis the feet of a ȝong man, that was clepid Saul. [verse 58] And thei stoonyden Steuene ynclepinge [clepinge to help V.] , and seyinge, Lord Jhesu, receyue [take O.] my spirit. [verse 59] Forsoth `the knees putt [he kneelide, and V.] , he criede with greet vois, sey|inge, Lord, sette [sette thou TY.] not to hem this synne; `for thei witen not what thei don [Om. V.] . And whanne he hadde seid this thing, he slepte [sleeped, or dyde O.] in the Lord. [Chap. VIII. begins here in V.] Forsoth Saul was consentynge to his deeth.
