[verse 1] Forsoth sum [a GMQTY.] man, Ananye by name, with Safyra, his wife, seelden [seelde AGMNPSVY. solde X.] a feeld, [verse 2] and defraudide of the priys [prijs of the feeld, whanne V.] , his wyf gilty [was gilty V.] , `or witinge [Om. OQX.] . And he bryngynge [brouȝt V.] sum part, puttide [puttide it GMPQT. putte SX. and put V.] bifore the [Om. O.] feet of apo|stlis [the apostlis GMPQTY.] . [verse 3] Forsoth Petre seide [seide to him V.] , Anany, why hath Sathanas temtid thin herte, thee for [Om. SX.] to lye to the Hooly Gost, and for [Om. SX.] to de|fraude of the prijs of the feeld? [verse 4] Wher it dwellinge dwelte not to thee; and it sold was in thi power? Whi hast thou put this thing in thin herte? Thou hast not lyed

to men, but to God. [verse 5] Forsoth Ananye heerynge [herde V.] thes wordis felde [and felde V.] doun, and deiede. And greet drede was maad into [on V.] alle that herden. [verse 6] Forsoth ȝonge men rysinge [riseden and V.] mouedyn hym awey, and `ber|ynge out [baren out, and V.] birieden. [verse 7] Forsothe ther was maad as the space of thre houris, and the wyf of him `not knowynge [knew not V.] that thing that was don, `entride yn [and entride. V.] . [verse 8] Forsothe Petre answeride to hir, Womman, seye [and seiye O.] to me, if [wher V.] ȝe solden the feeld for so moche? And she seide, Ȝhe, so [for so V.] moche. [verse 9] Forsoth Petre seide to hir, What sothli `cam to gidere to ȝou [bifelde V.] , `or acordide [Om. OX. or is cordid QS. either acordide, to ȝou V.] , for [Om. SX.] to tempte the spirit of the Lord? Lo! the feet of hem that han biried thin hose|bonde at [ben at V.] the dore, and thei schulen bere thee out. [verse 10] Anoon she felde down at his [the O.] feet, and deiede. Forsoth the ȝonge men entrynge [entriden and V.] founden hir deed, and thei baren [baren hir MPQTY.] out, and birieden to [hir to O.] hir hose|bonde. [verse 11] And greet drede is [was V.] maad in al the chirche, and into alle that herden thes thingis. [verse 12] Forsothe by the hondis of apo|stlis signes and many wondris ben [weren AGMNOPQSTVXY.] maad in the peple. And alle weren `to gidere [of oon acorde V.] in the porche of Salomon. [verse 13] Forsoth no man of othere durste ioyne him silf with hem, but the peple magnyfiede hem. [verse 14] For|soth the multitude of men and wymmen [of wymmen V.] bileuynge in the Lord was more encresid, [verse 15] so that into streetis thei brouȝten out sike men, and puttiden [putten SX.] in [in to Q.] litle beddis and cowchis, that [that whanne V.] Petre comynge [cam V.] , namely the schadowe of him schulde schadowe ech of hem, and thei weren [schulden be V.] dilyuered fro `al syknesse [alle sijknessis M. her syknessis V.] . [verse 16] Forsoth the [Om. X.] multitude `of citees [Om. Q.] nyȝ [that nyȝ T.] to Jerusalem ran, brynginge to [Om. V.] syk men, and trauelid of vnclene spi|ritis, the [Om. V.] whiche weren heelid alle. [verse 17] For|soth the [Om. N.] prince of prestis rysinge [rising vp N. roos vp V.] , and

alle that weren with him, that is the heresye of Saducees, `ben fulfillid [weren fillid V.] with [verse 18] enuye; and leiden hondis into [on V.] apostlis [the apostlis MPQTY.] , and puttiden [putten SX.] hem in comun kepyng. [verse 19] Forsoth the aungel of the Lord by nyȝte openynge [openyd NV.] the ȝate [ȝatis V.] of the prisoun, and [verse 20] ledinge [ledde V.] hem out, seyde [and seide V.] , Go ȝe, and `ȝe stondinge [stonde ȝe, and V. stondende X.] speke [preche N. speketh QSX.] in the temple to the peple alle the wordis of this lyf. [verse 21] The [Om. V.] whiche whanne thei hadden herd, entriden erly into the temple, and tauȝten. For|soth the [Om. X.] prince of prestis comynge [cam V.] , and thei that weren with him, clepiden [and clepide V.] to|gidere the counceil, and alle the eldere men of the sones of Israel; and senten to the prisoun, that thei schulden be brouȝt forth. [verse 22] Sothli whanne the mynistris camen, and [and founden hem not, and whanne V.] , the prisoun [prisounes O. prisoun was V.] openyd, `founden hem [verse 23] not [Om. V.] , thei turned [turneden V.] aȝen telden [and telden V.] , seiyng, Forsoth we founden the prisoun schit with al diligence, and the keperis stond|inge at the ȝatis; forsoth we openynge [openyden and V.] founden no man ther ynne. [verse 24] Sothli as the magestratis of the temple, and the princes of prestis [the prestes O.] herden these wordis, thei dout|iden `of hem [Om. X.] , what `schulde be [was V. shulde of hem X.] don. [verse 25] Forsothe [Sothely O.] sum man `comynge to, tolde [cam and telde V.] to hem, For lo! tho [the M.] men whom [whiche V.] ȝe han put into [in O.] prisoun, ben in the temple, stond|inge [and stondinge V. Om. Y.] , and techinge the peple. [verse 26] Thanne the magestrat [magistrates OTY.] wente with [with the AGMNPSVXY.] mynistris, and brouȝten [brouȝte V.] hem to [Om. V.] with outen strengthe [violence V.] ; forsoth [for V.] thei dredden the peple, lest thei schulden be stooned `to deeth [Om. SVX.] . [verse 27] And whanne thei hadden brouȝt hem to [Om. V.] , thei ordeyneden [settiden V.] in the counceil; and [that N.] [verse 28] the [Om. O.] princes [prince GMNQSTVXY.] of prestis axiden [axide GMNPQSTXY.] hem, sey|inge [and seide V.] , In comaundinge we comaundiden [comaunden AN.] ȝou [to ȝou G sec. m. SX.] , that ȝe schulden not teche in this

name, and lo! ȝe han fulfillid [fillid V.] Jerusalem with ȝoure teching, and ȝe wolen brynge yn on vs the blood of this man. [verse 29] Forsoth Petre answeringe, and apostlis [the apostles MOPQTY. othere apostolis X.] , seiden, It bihoueth for [Om. SX.] to obeye [obesche MS.] to God, more than to men. [verse 30] The [Om. GMQTY.] God of oure [ȝoure V.] fadris reyside Jhesu, whom ȝe slowen, hangynge in a tree. [verse 31] God enhaunside with his riȝthond this prince and sauyour, for [Om. SX.] to ȝyue pe|naunce to Israel, and remyscioun of synnes. [verse 32] And we ben witnessis of thes wordis, and the Hooly Gost, whom God ȝaf [ȝeueth Q.] to alle obeischinge to him. [verse 33] Whanne thei herden thes thingis, thei weren turmentid, and thouȝten for [Om. SX.] to sle hem. [verse 34] Forsoth sum man rysinge [roos V.] in the counceil, a Pharise, Gamaliel by name, a doctour of the lawe, a worschipful man to al the peple, co|maundide [and comaundide the V.] men for [Om. OSX.] to be maad [don S.] with|outeforth to [at V.] a schort tyme. [verse 35] And he seide to hem, Ȝe men of Israel, take [taketh SX.] tent to ȝou [ȝour GQT.] silf on thes men, what ȝe be to doynge [don SX.] . [verse 36] Forsoth [For V.] bifore thes dayes The|odas [there was a man Theodas T sec. m. sum man Theodas was X.] was, seyinge him silf for [Om. SX.] to be sum man [man greet T sec. m.] , to whom a noumbre of men consent|ide, aboute foure hundrid; the [Om. V.] which is [was V.] slayn, and alle whiche [who MPQTY.] euere bileueden [bileeuen V.] to him, ben [weren V.] disparplid [sparplyd S. disparulid X.] , and brouȝt to nouȝt. [verse 37] Aftir this, Judas Galilee [of Galilee M pr. m. V.] was in tho [the MQTV.] dayes of profescioun, and turnede awey the peple aftir him; and alle how manye euere consentiden to him, ben [weren V.] scaterid, and he perischide. [verse 38] And now sothli [therfore V.] I seie to ȝou, departe ȝe fro thes men, and suffre ȝe hem; for if it [Om. VX.] `is of men this [verse 39] counceil or werk [be of men this counceil or werk MPY. this counceil either werk is of men V. is of men this councell X.] , it schal be vndon; for|sothe if it is of God, ȝe mown not vndo hem. `But suffre ȝe hem [Om. V.] , lest perauen|ture and [Om. OX.] ȝe be foundun for [Om. S.] to repugne

God [to God PQTY.] . Forsoth thei consentiden to him; [verse 40] and thei clepinge [clepiden V.] `to gidere [Om. O.] apostlis [the apostlis GMOPQTY.] , denounciden [and denounsiden V.] to hem betun [by|dene O.] , that thei schulde no more speke in the name of Jhesu, and leften [thei leften V.] hem. [verse 41] And sothli thei wenten ioyinge fro the siȝt of the coun|ceil, for thei ben [weren V.] had worthi for [Om. SX.] to suffre dispysing, `or wrong [Om. OQX.] , for the name of Jhesu. [verse 42] Forsoth ech day thei ceessiden not in the temple, and aboute housis, techinge and euangelisynge Jhesu Crist.
