And thei seiden to him, But ne|thir we han herd, if the Hooli Gost is. [verse 3] Sothly he seith [seide V.] , Therfore in what thing ben ȝe baptysid? Whiche [The whiche QSX.] seiden, In bap|tym [the baptym V.] of John. [verse 4] Forsoth Poul seide, John baptyside in baptym of penaunce the pe|ple, seyinge [and tauȝte V.] , that thei schulde byleue into [to O.] him that was to comynge [comen SX.] aftir him, that is, into [Om. O.] Jhesu. [verse 5] `These thingis herd [Whanne thei herden these thingis V.] , thei ben [weren V.] baptisid in the name of the Lord Jhesu. [verse 6] And whanne Poul hadde putt to hem the [Om. X.] hondis, the Hooli Gost cam on hem, and thei spaken with langagis, and prophesieden. [verse 7] Forsoth alle weren almest twelue men. [verse 8] Sothli he gon [ȝede V.] into the sy|nagoge, `with trist spak [and spak with trist V.] , by thre monethis disputinge and softli [sotelly O. Om. V.] mouynge [treetinge V.] of the kyngdom of God. [verse 9] Sothli whanne summe weren endurid, `or maad hard [Om. hethene men. [verse 11] And [Om. TV.] vertues whiche euere [Om. V.] [verse 12] `the Lord [God MPTV.] dide [dide vertues not litel V.] by the hond of Poul, so that on syke men the [Om. SX.] sudaries, `or swet|yng clothis [Om. OX.] , or [Om. O.] `nyȝt clothis [Om. O.] , or girdils, weren [that weren QSX.] borun fro his body, and sikenessis departiden fro hem, and wickide [wicke SX.] spiritis wenten out. [verse 14] Sotheli ther weren summe seuene sones of a Jewe, Sceue [Steuen NO. Sceue by name T. Steue V.] , prince of prestis, that diden this thing. [verse 18] And manye of [Om. MPT.] men [hem Q.] bileuynge camen, knowlechinge and tellinge her dedis. [verse 19] So|theli manye of hem that sueden curiouse thingis, brouȝten to gidere bookis, and brennyden hem bifore alle men; and the [whanne the V.] prisis [preestis GT.] of hem [thoo V.] acountid [weren acountid V.] , thei founden [verse 20] money of fifty thousynd pens; so strongly the word of God wexide [wex SX.] , and was con|fermyd. X.] , fals [a fals GMPTY. Om. X.] goddesse [Om. X.] , ȝaf [and ȝaf V.] to crafty men `not litil [myche V.] wynnyng; [verse 25] whom [whiche V.] he clepinge [clepide V.] to gidere, and hem that weren suche manere [Om. N.] werk men, seide [and seide V.] , Men, ȝe witen for [that V.] of this craft `is to ȝou [verse 26] wynnyng [wynnyng is to vs V.] ; and ȝe seen and heeren, for [that V.] not oonly of Ephesi, but almest of al Asie, this Poul councelinge [counceileth and V.] turneth awey moche cumpany [companyes O.] , seiynge [and seith V.] , for [that OV.] thei ben not god|dis, that ben maad by hondis. [verse 27] Forsoth [Sothely O.] not oonli this part schal be in perel to vs, for [Om. [verse 29] And the citee `is fulfillid [was fillid V.] with confusioun, and thei maden a sawt with [of Y.] `oon ynwit [oo wille V.] , `or wille [Om. OVX.] , in to the teatre, or comune biholdyng place, `Gayus rauyschid [and rauyschen Gayus V.] and Aristark, men of Macedonye, felowis of Poul. [verse 30] Sothli `Poul willinge [whanne Poul wolde V.] for [Om. SVX.] to [Om. VX.] entre into the peple, disciplis [the disciplis MPY sec. m.] suffriden not. [verse 31] Forsoth summe [summen T. also summe V.] and [Om. TV.] of the princes of Asie, that weren his frendis, senten to him, prei|ynge [and preieden V.] , that he schulde not ȝyue him silf into the teatre. [verse 32] Sothli othere men cry|eden othir thing [thenges O.] ; sothli [for V.] the chirche was confusid, and manye wisten not of [or V.] what cause thei camen to gidere. [verse 33] Sothli of the cumpanye thei withdrowen [drowen doun V.] sum man Ali|saundre,

[verse 36] Therfore whanne it may not be aȝen seid to thes thingis, it bihoueth ȝou for [Om. SX.] to be ceessid [swagid O.] , `or swagid [Om. OQX.] , and for [Om. SX.] to do no thing folily; [verse 37] sothli [for V.] ȝe han brouȝt thes men, nether sacrilegeris [sacrileges O.] , nether blasfemynge ȝoure goddesse. [verse 38] That if Demetrie, and the [Om. O.] werkmen that ben with him, han cause aȝens ony man, comyngis [comynge T.] to gidere of dom [domes AGMNOPSVX.] ben [men Y.] don, and proconsuls, `or ius|tisis [Om. X.] , ben; accuse thei hem to gidere. [verse 39] If ȝe seken ouȝt of ony othir thing, it may be asoylid in the laweful chirche. [verse 40] Forwhi and we ben in perel for [Om. SX.] to be reproued of this dayes seducioun, `or dissencioun [Om. QX.] , sithen no man is gilty, of whom we mown ȝelde resoun of this rennyng to gidere. And whanne he hadde seid this thing, he lefte [delyuerede X.] , or delyuerede [Om. OX.] , the chirche.
