IN the [Om. OV.] firste it is to seie, whi the apo|stle Poul in this pistle [epistil SV.] `in wrytynge [Om. V.] ne [Om. S.] kepte not his maner, or [of KY. either V.] his [Om. OV.] custom, that he wroot othir [ether O.] the word of his name, othir [ether OV. or S.] the dignyte of ordre. This is the cause, that he wrytinge to hem that of circumcisioun hadde bileuyd, was as [Om. O.] an apostle [postle Y.] of paymes [paynymes OSV.] , and not of Ebrewis; knowynge also her pride, schewynge also his mekenesse by feith, the merit of his office he wolde not [Om. V.] seie [sette Y sec. m.] bifore. For in lyche maner John apostle [the apostle V.] , for mekenesse, in his pistle [epistil OSV.] his name by [in O.] the same re|soun putte [putteth O.] not bifore. This [Therfore this S.] pistle [epistell OSV.] ther|fore [Om.
