[verse 28] Forsoth aftir this dom [is the dom V.] , so and Crist was offrid onys, for [Om. SX.] to auoyde [voiden S. avoid, or do away T.] the synnes of many men; the secunde tyme [Om. X.] he schal appere withoute synne to men abydinge him into the [Om. V.] heelthe [heste Q.] `of hem by feith [Om. V.] . [verse 1] [In V the chapter begins here.] Forsoth the lawe [old lawe T.] hauynge schadowe of goodis to comynge [comen SX.] , not `the ilke [that X.] ymage of thingis, `by alle ȝeeris by the ilke same [Om. V. bi alle ȝeris bi tho same X.] oostis [oostis, that the lawe comaundith T. Om. V.] , whiche [Om. V. that X.] `thei offren withoute ceess|inge [Om. V.] , `neuere may [may neuere V.] make men `comynge [verse 2] nyȝ [neiȝinge V.] perfyt [perfyt, bi thilke same sacr. whiche thei offren without ceesing bi alle ȝeeris V.] ; ellis thei schulden haue ceess|id for [Om. SX.] to be offrid, therfore that the wor|schipers clensid oonys, hadden no [not ferthermore V.] con|science of synne ferthermore [Om. V.] . [verse 3] But in hem [hem by oft offring T.] mynde of synnes [synne T.] is maad by alle ȝeeris. [verse 4] Forsoth [For V.] it is ynpossible synnes [that synnes V.] for [Om. STVX.] to [Om. V.] be don [Om. N.] awey by blood of bolis, and buckis of geet. [verse 5] Therfore he entrynge into the world, seith, Thou woldist not `an oost [sacrifice V.] , `or sacrifice [Om. GMOPTVX.] , and offring; for|soth [but V.] thou [Om. T.] hast [schalt G. Om. T.] shapyn [Om. T.] a body [body to suffre and dye T.] to [thou hast ȝouun to T.] me; [verse 6] and [Om. V.] brent sacrificis for [and for V.] synne [synnes X.] pleside not to thee. [verse 7] Thanne I seyde, Loo! I come; in the heed [heuyd GT. bigynnyng O.] , `or bigynnyng [Om. GMOPX. or the bygynnynge Y.] , of the book it is writyn of me, that I do thi wille [wille, God T. wille, thou God V.] .

[verse 8] He `seying aboue [aboue sayinge GMPT. bifore seyinge O. seyinge bifore V.] , `or bifore [Om. GMOPVX.] , For thou woldist not oostis [sacrifices V.] , and offringis, and brent sacrificis, and [Om. G sec. m.] for synne, ne [Om. [verse 31] It is feerful for [Om. SX.] to falle into hondis [the hoondes NO.] of `God lyuynge [lyuynge God GMT.] . [verse 32] Forsoth haue ȝe mynde on the formere dayes, in the [Om. VX.] whiche ȝe liȝtned susteyneden [suffriden MPTV.] greet stryf, `or fiȝt [Om. OX.] , of passiouns. [verse 33] And sothly in `that other [the tother AGMNOPSTVXY.] ȝe maad [ben made T. weren maad V.] a spectacle [spectacle, or wondringe GMPT.] bi schen|schips and [in K.] tribulaciouns; in the [that Q.] tothir [tother sijd T. othir Q.] forsothe ȝe ben [Om. [verse 34] For whi and to boundun men ȝe hadden compassioun, and ȝe res|seyueden with ioye the raueyne of ȝoure goodis [goodis, or rauisching of hem T.] , knowynge ȝou for [Om. SX.] to haue a

betere and [and a MSTXY.] dwelling substaunce. [verse 35] `And so [Therfore V.] nyle ȝe leese ȝoure trist, `the which [whiche V. that X.] hath greet rewardyng. [verse 36] Forsoth pacience is nedeful to [in T.] ȝou, that ȝe doynge the wille of God, brynge aȝen the biheeste. [verse 37] Ȝit sotheli a litil, how euere litil [litil tyme O.] , he that is to comynge [come SX.] schal come, and he schal not tarie. [verse 38] Forsoth my iust man lyueth of feith; that if he `schal withdrawe [with|drawith V.] `him silf [hym fro the bileue T.] , he schal not plese to my soule. [verse 39] Forsoth we ben not the sones of withdrawynge awei into perdicioun, but of feith into the [Om. V.] get|yng of soule.
