[verse 1] Forsothe, britheren, we preien ȝou by the comynge of oure Lord Jhesu Crist, and oure congregacioun into the same [verse 2] thing, that ȝe be not moued soone fro ȝoure witt, nether be [be ȝe GMPQT. beth SX.] agast [aferd V.] , nethir bi spirit, nethir by word, nether by epistle as sent by vs, as [as if V.] the day of the [oure O.] Lord be

nyȝ. [verse 3] That no man disceyue ȝou in [on ANOSVWXY.] ony maner. For [For the Lord schal not come to the dom V.] no [Om. QTX.] but [but yf X.] `departyng awey [discen|cioun QT.] , `or dissencioun [Om. OQTVX. or discessioun S.] , schal [Om. V.] come first, and the man of synne schal be [Om. V.] schewid, the sone [verse 4] of perdicioun, that is aduersarie [aduersarie, or Antecrist QT.] , and is enhaunsid [hauncid X.] vpon [ouer V. on X.] al thing that is seid God, or that is worschipid, so that he sitte in the temple, `or into the temple [Om. G sec. m. OQSTVX.] , of God, schewinge [and schewe V.] him silf as [as that O. as if V.] he be [is V.] God. [verse 5] Wher ȝe holden not [not in mynde QT.] , that ȝit whanne I was at ȝou, I seide thes thingis to ȝou? [verse 6] And now what withholdith [withholdeth, or letteth O. withholdith hym QT.] , ȝe witen, that he be schewid in his tyme. [verse 7] Forwhi the mysterie [priuyte O.] , `or priuyte [Om. OX.] , of wickidnesse worchith now [now, and ȝit schal QT.] ; oonly that he that holdith now [now the feith QT.] , holde [holdith V.] , til it be maad of the myddel [mydil, that is, to the power of Antecrist be maad opyn in the mydil of hem that ben chosen to knowe it QT.] . [verse 8] And thanne [Om. X.] `the ilke [that X.] wickid [wicke SX.] man schal be schewid, whom the Lord Jhesu schal sle with the spirit of his mouth, and schal distroye [dystruye hym QT.] with the [Om. SVXY.] illumynyng [illumyng A. schynyng O. liȝtnyng V.] , `or schynyng [Om. OQTX.] , of his comyng [cleer cummynge QT.] . `Jhesus schal [verse 9] sle [Om. OSVX.] him, whos comyng is vp [after GMPQT. bi V.] the worch|ing of Sathanas, in al vertu, and signes, and grete [Om. O.] wondris, lyinge [fals OV. lesingis X.] , `or fals [Om. OVX.] , [verse 10] and [Om. X.] in al disseit of wickidnesse, to hem that perischen. For that thei resceyueden not the charite of treuthe, that thei schul|den be maad saaf. Therfore [And therfore V.] God schal sende to hem a [Om. X.] worching of errour, that [verse 11] thei bileue to lessyng, `or gabbyng [Om. AGMNOPQSTVWXY.] , that alle be demyd, `or dampned [Om. [verse 15] Forsothe oure Lord Jhesu Crist him silf, and God and [Om. V.] oure fadir, the [Om. VX.] which [that X.] louede ȝou [us V.] , and ȝaf euerlasting comfort [verse 16] and good hope in grace, stirre, `or mo|neste [Om.
