[verse 1] Forsoth, britheren, of `tymes and mo|mentis [of momentus and of tymes SWXY.] ȝe [whenne this general resureccioun schal be, ȝe QT.] neden not that I write to ȝou. [verse 2] Also [For V.] ȝe [ȝe ȝoure GPQTY sec. m. ȝe ȝou M. ȝou OSX.] silf diligentli witen, for [that V.] the day of the Lord, as a theef in nyȝt, so schal [schal it QT.] come. [verse 3] Sothli [For V.] whanne thei schulen seye pees [pees is V.] and sikurnesse, thanne sudeyn [sodeynli SX.] perischinge, `or deeth [Om. QTX.] , schal come `aboue to [to O. on V.] hem, as sorwe to a womman `beringe child [hauynge in the wombe V.] , and [that O.] thei schulen not scape. [verse 4] For|soth, britheren, ȝe ben not in derknessis [derknessis of ignoraunce QT.] , that `the ilke [that X.] day as a theef catche ȝou.

[verse 5] Sothli [For V.] alle ȝe ben the sones of lyȝt [lyȝt, or of byleue QT.] , and sones of day [the day QT.] ; we [ȝe QT.] ben not of nyȝt, nethir of derknessis. [verse 6] Therfore slepe we not as and [Om. G.] othere [other don QT.] ; but wake [wake we M pr. m. NQTV. walke Y.] , and be we sobre. [verse 7] Forsoth [For V.] thei that slepen, slepen in the nyȝt [nyȝt of vices QT.] , and thei that ben drunken, ben drunken in nyȝt [the nyȝt SVW.] . [verse 8] Forsoth we that ben of the day, ben [be G sec. m.] sobre [Om. G pr. m. we sobre G sec. m.] , clothid [clad SX. clothid, or defendide by QT.] the [in the V.] ha|burioun of feith and [and of QTV.] charite, and [Om. GMP. and by QT. and in V.] the helm, hope of heelthe. [verse 9] For [For whi V.] God puttide [putte SX.] not vs into wraththe, but into [in Q.] the [Om. GMQT.] pur|chasyng of heelthe by oure Lord Jhesu [verse 10] Crist, that was deed for vs; that where [whether GMOPQTVWXY.] we waken [waaken, lyuynge here QT.] , where [whether GMOPQTVWXY.] we slepen [dyen QT.] , we lyue to gidere with him. [verse 11] For which thing `be ȝe comfortid [coumforte ȝe V.] to gidere, and `edifie ȝe [edefieth X.] ech othir, as and ȝe don. [verse 12] Forsoth, britheren, we preien ȝou, that ȝe schulen [Om. V.] knowe hem that trauelen among ȝou, and ben bifore [souereyns V.] to ȝou in the Lord, and monesten [techen O.] , `or [verse 13] techen [Om. OX.] , ȝou, that ȝe haue hem more ha|boundantli in charite; for [and for V.] the work of hem, haue ȝe pees with hem. [verse 14] Forsoth, britheren, we preien ȝou, reproue [repreue ȝee GMPQSTVX.] , `or chastyse [Om. O. or chastiseth S.] , ȝe [Om. GMPQSTX.] vnquyete men. Comforte ȝe men of litil herte [herte, that they dispeire not QT.] , resceyue ȝe [ȝe, as good leches QT.] syke men, be ȝe pacient to alle men. [verse 15] Se ȝe, that no man ȝelde yuel for yuel [yuel to eny man V.] ; but euermore sue ȝe that that is good, to gidere and into [verse 16] alle men [Om. X.] . [verse 17] Euermore ioye ȝe; with oute [verse 18] ceessynge preie ȝe; in alle thingis do ȝe thankyngis [thanckyngis to God QT.] . Forsothe [For whi V.] this is the wille of God in Crist Jhesu, and [Om. V.] in alle ȝou. [verse 19] Nyle ȝe `quenche the spirit [quenche, or hyde the grace of God in ȝou Q. quenche the spirit, or hide the grace of God in ȝou T.] ; [verse 20] nyle ȝe dis|pise prophecies. [verse 21] Forsoth [But V.] proue ȝe alle thingis, holde ȝe that thing that is good. [verse 22] Absteyne [Absteneth S.] ȝou [ȝe ȝou O.] fro al yuel spice, `or lik|nesse [Om. SX.] . [verse 23] Forsothe `the same God [God himself V.] of pees make ȝou hooly by alle thingis, that ȝoure spirit be kept hool, and soule, and body, with oute playnt, in the comynge of oure

Lord Jhesu Crist. [verse 24] God is trewe, that clepide ȝou [ȝou to lyf QT.] , the [Om. V.] which also schal do [do werc of grace in ȝou QT.] . [verse 25] Britheren, preie ȝe for vs. [verse 26] `Greete ȝe [Greeteth S.] wel alle [all holy O.] britheren in hooly coss. [verse 27] I coniure ȝou by the Lord, that this pistle [epistyl SX.] be rad to alle hooly britheren. [verse 28] The grace of oure Lord Jhesu Crist be with ȝou alle [Om. V.] . Amen.
