[verse 1] And the Lord seide to Moyses, Goo yn to Pharao, Y forsothe haue hardid the
herte of him, and of his seruauntis, that [verse 2] Y make thes my signes in hym; and thow telle in the erres of thi sone and of thi cosyns, how ofte sithes Y haue born doun togidere the Egipciens, and haue doon toknes in hem; and knowe ȝe for Y a Lord. [verse 3] Thanne Moyses and Aaron ȝeden yn to Pharao, and seiden to hym, Thes thingis seith the Lord God of He|brews, How long wolt thow not be suget to me? Leeue my puple, that it sacrifie [verse 4] to me; yf forsothe thow withstonde, and wole not leeue it, loo! Y shal leede yn to [verse 5] morwe a locust into thi coostis, that shal couer the vttermost of the erthe, that eny thing of it shal not apeere, but be etun that was lafte to the hawle; forsothe he shal gnawe alle trees that buriounen in [verse 6] the feeldes; and thei shulen fulfille thin howses, and of thi seruauntis, and of alle the Egipcyens, how many han not seen thi fadris, ne her fadris, sith thei weren born vpon erthe, vnto the day that is now. And he turnede hym a wey, and ȝede out fro Pharao. [verse 7] And the seruauntis of Pharao seiden to hym, How long shulen we suffre this sclaundre? Leeue the men, that thei sacrifye to the Lord her God; seest thow not, that Egipte perishith? [verse 8] And thei clepeden aȝen Moyses and Aaron to Pharao, the which seide to hem, Goth, and sacrifieth to the Lord ȝoure God; who forsothe ben that ben to goon? [verse 9] Moyses seith, With oure chil|dren and aldren we [and we A.] shulen goon; and with sones, and douȝtres [douȝtren BDEFH.] , with sheip, and droues; it is forsothe the solempnyte of the Lord oure God. [verse 10] And Pharao an|swerde, So the Lord be with ȝow, what maner thanne Y shal leeue ȝow and ȝoure children? to whom is it dout, that ful yuel ȝe thenken? [verse 11] It shal not be doon so, but go ȝe oonly men, and sacryfye [sacrifyeth BDEFH.] to
the Lord; this forsothe and ȝoure seluen askiden. And anoon thei weren put out fro the siȝt of Pharao. [verse 12] And the Lord seide to Moyses, Strecche out thin hoond vpon the loond of Egipte, to a locust, that it stey vp vpon the loond, and deuowre al herbe that to the hawle was laft of. [verse 13] And Moyses strauȝte out the ȝerde vpon the loond of Egipte, and the Lord brouȝte yn a brennynge wynde al that day and nyȝt; and the morwe tyde biganne, a [verse 14] brennynge wynd reride [arered E pr. m.] vp locustes, the whiche steiden vp fro [about A sup. ras.] al the loond of Egipte, and seeten in alle the coostis of Egipciens vnnoumbrable, whiche maner before that tyme weren not, ne afterward ben to comen. [verse 15] And thei couerden al the vttermost party of the loond, wastynge alle thingis; thanne the heerbe of the loond was deuowryd, and what euer thing of apples that was in trees, that the hawle hadde laft; and algatys no grene thing was laft in the trees and in heerbis of the loond, in al Egipte. [verse 16] Wherfor hiynge Pharao clepide Moyses and Aaron, and seide to hem, Y haue synned in the Lord [verse 17] ȝoure God, and yn ȝow; but now forȝyue ȝe the synne to me; also this sithe prey ȝe the Lord ȝoure God, that this deeth he doo a wey fro me. [verse 18] And Moyses ȝede out fro the siȝt of Pharao, and preide the [verse 19] Lord; the which made blow the moost hidows wynde fro the west, and the lo|cust takun he threwe a fer into the reed see; and there laft not forsothe oon [not oon BDEFH.] in alle the coostis of Egipte. [verse 20] And the Lord hardide the herte of Pharao, and he lafte not the children of Yrael. [verse 21] Forsothe the Lord seide to Moyses, Strecche out thin hoond into heuene, and be there derknes [derknessis EH.] vpon the loond of Egipte, so thik that thei mown be gropid. [verse 22] And Moyses strauȝte out the hoond [hondes BDEFH.] into heuene, and orrible derknesses ben maad in al the [verse 23] loond of Egipte; thre dayes no man
`myȝte se [seeyȝ BDEFH.] his brother, ne mouede him out of that place that he was ynne; where euer the children of Yrael dwelten, was liȝt. [verse 24] And Pharao clepide Moyses and Aaron, and [Om. B.] seide to hem, Gothe, and sacrifieth to the Lord [Lord ȝoure God A pr. m.] ; ȝoure sheep oonli and droues abiden thei stil; ȝoure children goo thei with ȝow. [verse 25] Moyses seith, Forsothe oostis and brent sacrifices thow shalt ȝyue to vs, that we offren to [verse 26] the Lord oure God; alle the flockis shulen goon with vs; there shal not leeue a clee of the thingis that ben necessarie into the heriyng of the Lord oure God, namely, whan we knowen not what shal be offryd, to the tyme that we comen fullich to that place. [verse 27] And the Lord hardide the herte of Pharao, and he wold not leeue hem. [verse 28] And Pharao seide to Moyses, Goo awey fro me, and be war that thow se no more my face; what euer day thow aperist to me, thow shalt dye. [verse 29] Moyses forsothe [Om. BDEFH.] answerde, So be it doon, as thow hast spokun; Y shal se no more thi face.
