CAP. III.

[verse 1] Bigynne we eftsoone for [Om. SX.] to comende, `or preise [Om. OX.] , vs [or G pr. m. oure MPT.] silf? or wher we neden, as summe [summe men N. summen MQV.] , preisynge lettris [pistlis V.] to ȝou, or of ȝou? [verse 2] Ȝe ben oure [ȝoure A.] pistle [epistil S.] , writun in ȝoure [oure NV.] hertis, the [Om. V.] which is kowd [knowen V.] and radd of [verse 3] alle men; ȝe [And ȝe ben V] maad [Om. G pr. m.] opyn, for ȝe ben the pistle [epistel OSX.] of Crist mynistrid [which pistle is mynystrid V.] of vs, and wri|tun, not with [of MOQT.] enke, but by [Om. V.] the spirit of quyk God; not in stoony tablis, but in fleischly tablis of herte. [verse 4] Forsoth we han [verse 5] such trist by Crist to God; not that we ben sufficient for [Om. SX.] to thenke ony thing of vs [vs self GMPQT.] , as of [Om. V.] vs, but oure sufficience is of God. [verse 6] The [Om. V.] which and made vs able myn|istris of the newe [Om. P.] testament, not bi let|tre, but by spirit; for [forsothe Q.] the lettre sleith, forsoth the spirit quykeneth. [verse 7] For if the mynistracioun of deeth defformyd by let|tris in stoones was in glorie, so that the [Om. V pr. m.] children of Israel myȝten not biholde in to the face of Moyses, for the glorie of his cheere, the [Om. V.] which glorie [Om. SX.] is auoydid [now auoidid S.] , [verse 8] hou not more the mynistracioun of spirit schal be in glorie? [verse 9] Forwhi if the myn|istracioun of dampnacioun is [was V.] in glorie, moche more the mynisterie, `or seruynge [Om. OX.] , of riȝtwysnesse is plenteuous in glorie.

[verse 10] Forwhi nether `that that [that at O.] was cleer `in this part [in this part, as the chere of Moyses Q. was gl. in this part V.] , `was glorified [Om. V.] for excellent glo|rie [verse 11] [glorie of the newe testament Q.] ; sothly [forwhi V.] if `that that [that at O.] is auoydid, is [was V.] bi glorie, moche more `that that [that at O.] dwellith is in glorie. [verse 12] Therfore we hauynge such [verse 13] hope, vsen moche trist; and not as Moy|ses puttide [putte SX.] a veyl on his face, that the children of Israel schulde not byholde in to his face, the [Om. V.] which veyl [veyle, that is, dercnesse of scripturis Q.] is auoydid [auoided by grace of Crist Q.] . [verse 14] But the wittis of hem ben astoneyed [stoneid S.] ; sothli [for V.] til in to this day the same veyl in redinge [the reedynge G.] of the oolde testament dwellith `not schewid [vnshewid X.] , for [for whi V.] in Crist it is auoydid, [verse 15] but til in to this day, whanne Moyses is radd, the veyl is putt vpon [on SVX.] her hertis [hertis that byleuen not Q.] . [verse 16] Forsoth whanne Israel schal be conuertid to God, the veyl schal be don awey. [verse 17] For|soth the Lord [spirit V.] is spirit [a spirit GMNPQT. the Lord V.] ; forsoth where is [Om. V.] the spirit of God [the Lord is V.] , there is liberte [liberte, or fredom Q. a liberte T.] . [verse 18] For|soth alle we with schewid face biholdinge [seeinge N.] the [Om. S.] glorie of the Lord, ben transformyd into the same ymage, fro clerenesse into [to O.] clerenesse, as of the spirit of the Lord.
