[verse 2] Forsoth if ony man [Om. V.] gesse [may gesse N. gessith V.] , `or deme [Om. NOVX.] , him [Om. V.] for [Om. SVX.] `to wyte [that he can V.] ony thing, he hath not ȝit knowyn how it [him WX.] bihoueth hym [Om. WX.] for [Om. SX.] to kunne. [verse 3] Forsoth if ony man loueth God, this is knowun of him. [verse 4] For|soth of metis that ben offrid to ydols, we witen, for [that V.] an ydol is no thing in the world, and that [Om. S.] ther is no God but [no but GMPQSTVWY.] oon. [verse 5] For|why `and if [thouȝ V. and W.] ther ben that ben [Om. G pr. m.] seide god|dis, ether in heuene, ether in [or S.] erthe, for|soth ther ben many goddis, and many [verse 6] lordis; nethelees to vs is oo God, the fadir, of whom alle [ben alle V.] thingis, and we in him; and oo Lord, Jhesu Crist, by whom alle [ben alle V.] thingis, and we by him. [verse 7] But not in alle men is kunnynge. Sothli summe [sommen V.] with conscience of ydol til now eten as thing offrid to ydols; and her conscience is vn|clene [defoulid V.] , whanne it is syk. [verse 8] Mete [Forsothe mete N.] comend|ith vs not to God; `neithir forsothe [for neither V.] we [if we X.] schulen faylen [eten, we shuln abounden, neither we shuln failen X.] , if we `schulen not ete [eten not V.] , `nethir if we eten, we schulen habounde [Om. X.] , `or haue plente [Om. GMOPTX. in feith Q.] . [verse 9] Se [But see V.] ȝe [Om. N.] forsoth [therfore S. Om. V.] , lest perauenture this ȝoure leue [licence, or leeue GMPQT.] be maad hirt|inge, `or sclaundre [Om. OX.] , to syke men, `or freele [Om. GOX. in feith Q.] . [verse 10] Sothli [For V.] if ony man schal se him that hath kunnynge, restinge [etinge V.] in a place wher ydols ben worschipid, wher [whether S et X passim.] his con|science, sith [sithen GVX. sen O.] it is syk, schal not be edy|fyed [edified, or styrid Q.] for [Om. SX.] to ete thingis offrid to ydols? [verse 11] And the syke [seek, or vnstidefast Q.] brothir, for whom Crist deyede, schal perische in thi kunnynge. [verse 12] Forsoth [For thus X.] thus [Om. K pr. m.] ȝe synnynge [synnynge thus K pr. m.] `in to [aȝens V.] bri|theren, and smytinge hir syke conscience, synnen in [aȝens V.] Crist. [verse 13] Wherfor if mete sclaun|drith [sclaundre GMPQT.] my brother, I schal not ete fleisch `in to [Om. V.] withouten ende, lest I sclaundre my brothir.
