[verse 1] Therfore what is more to a Jew, or what profyt of circumcisioun? [verse 2] Moche by alle maner; first sothli, for [Om. X.] the spekyngis of God ben [weren V.] bitakun to hem. [verse 3] What sothli if summe of hem bileueden not? Wher [Whether S passim X.] the vnbileue of hem hath auoydid [anoyed Q.] the feith of God? [verse 4] Fer be it. Forsoth God is trewe, `or sothfast [Om. OQX.] , sothli ech man a lyere, `or vnstable [Om. OX.] ; as is [it is O.] writun, That thou be iustifyed, `or founden trewe [Om. X.] , in thi wordis, and ouercome, whanne thou ert demed. [verse 5] Forsoth if oure [ȝour G pr. m.] wickidnesse, `or vnequyte [Om. GMOPX. or vnquyet Y.] , comende the riȝtwysnesse [riȝtfulnesse V.] of God, what schulen we seie? Wher [Whether X passim.] God is wickid, that bryngeth in wraththe? [verse 6] Vp man I seie. Fer be it. Ellis how `God schal [shal God MPV.] deme this world? [verse 7] Forsoth [For V.] if the [Om. P.] treuthe of God hath haboundid [abounden WY.] , `or be plenteuous [Om. OX.] , in my lesynge, in to the glorie of hym, what and [Om. O.] ȝit am I demed as a synnere? [verse 8] And not as we ben blasfemyd, and as summe seyen vs for [Om. SX.] to seye, Do we yuele thingis, that goode thingis come. Whos dampnacioun is iust. [verse 9] What ther|fore? Passen we hem? Nay; sothli [for V.] we han schewid by skile, Jewis [the Jewis W.] and Greekis [verse 10] alle [as W.] for [Om. SX.] to be vndir synne, as it is writun, [verse 11] For ther is not ony man iust; ther is not a man vndirstondinge, neither sekinge God. [verse 12] Alle bowedyn a wey, to gidere thei ben maad [maked O.] vnprofitable; ther is not that doith [don N. do SX.] good thing [Om. X.] , ther is not til to oon. [verse 13] `A sepulcre openynge [An opin sepulcre V.] is the throte of hem; with her tungis thei diden gilyngly [gylfully V. gilendeli X.] , `or trecherously [Om. O.] ; the venym of eddris [snakes V.] , `that ben clepid aspis [that is, aspis M. Om. OV. aspis X.] , vndur [is vndur V.] her lippis.
