THIS is John euangelist [the euangelist QSV.] , oon of the [Om. GOXY.] disciplis of God, the which a mayde [maiden SX.] of God was chosun, whom [whan G.] fro the sposailis willinge be [to ben X.] weddid, God clepide; to whom double witnesse of maydenhod in the gospel is ȝeue; in that, that bothe bifore [bifore other Q sec. m.] he is seid louyd of God, and to him God hangynge in the cross bitook his modir, that a [Om. Q.] mayden [maide V.] schulde kepe a mayde [maiden SX.] . Forsothe he openynge in the gospel what he was, bigynnynge the work of an [Om. V.] vncoruptible word, `other Goddis sone [ether G. s. QV. or G. s. S. Om. X.] , he aloone wit|nessith Goddis sone to be maad man, and the liȝt, `that is, Crist [Om. X.] , to haue be not comprehendid of derknessis, `that beth synneris [that ben synneres GSY. that beth synnes Q. Om. X.] ; puttinge the firste sygne [thing V.] , that God made in [Om. Q pr. m.] sposailis, that he schewinge what he was, schulde schewe to men redinge, that where the Lord was preied to mete, ouȝt fayle [to faile SX.] the wyn of sposailis, and that oolde thingis chaungid, alle newe thingis that ben [beth GQ.] ordeyned of Crist schulde appere. This gospel forsothe he wrot in Asye, aftir that in the [Om. GY.] yle of Pathmos he hadde write the Apocalips; that to whom `that in [Om. GQ. in V.] the principal of canoun incoruptible prin|ciple is fornootid, to him [whom KQ.] also [also an QSV.] incoruptible [vncorruptible QS.] ende by a mayde [maiden SX.] in the apocalips schulde `be ȝolde [byholde K.] ; seiynge [seynge K. seiende X. seeynge Y.] Crist, I am alpha and o, that is, bigynnynge and [Om. G.] John, the which knowinge the day of his passinge [passage GQSVXY.] to haue be come ouer [ouer to G.] , his disciplis clepid to gidere in Ephesie, by many preuyngis of tokenes schewinge Crist, dessendid [he descendede X.] in to a dolue [den X.] place of his graue; and, preier maad [y-maad Q.] , he was put to his fadris [fadir KY.] , as straunge fro sorwe [sorwen X.] of deeth, as he is founde alien fro corup|cioun of fleisch. K.] deposiscioun of the [Om. X.] tyme of writingis, or the ordynaunce of bookis; therfore by alle thingis by vs is [Om. Q pr. m.
