THIS is John euangelist [the euangelist QSV.] , oon of the [Om. [verse 1] In the bigynnynge was the word, that is, Goddis sone, and the word was at God, and God was the word. [verse 2] This was in the bigynnynge at God. [verse 3] Alle thingis ben maad by hym, and with outen him

is maad noȝt, that thing that is maad. [verse 4] Was lyf in him, and the lyf was the [Om. MQVX.] liȝt [verse 5] of men; and the liȝt schyneth in derk|nessis, and derknessis [the derknessis V.] tooken [comprehendeden, or token AGNPSTWY. comprehenden, or taken M. comprehenden X. comprehenden, or token Q. comprehendiden not, or tookyn V.] not it. [verse 20] And he knowelechide, and denyede not, and he knowlechide, For I am not Crist. [verse 21] And thei axiden him, What therfore? art thou Elye? And he seide, I am not. [verse 45] Philip fond Nathanael, and he seith to him, We han founden Jhesu, the sone of Joseph, of Nazareth, whom Moyses wroot in the lawe and prophetis. [verse 46] And Na|thanael seide to him, Of Nazareth may sum `good thing [thing of good AGMNPSTVWXY.] be? Philip seith to him, Come [Come thou V.] , and se. SX.] , of Galilee; and the modir of Jhesu was there. [verse 2] Sothli Jhesu is clepid, and his disciplis, to the weddingis. [verse 3] And wyn faylinge, the modir of Jhesu seide to him, Thei han not wyn. [verse 4] And Jhesu seith to hir, What to me and to thee, thou [Om. AGMNPQSTVWXY.] womman? myn our cam not ȝit. [verse 5] The modir of him seith to the mynystris, What euere thing he schal seie to ȝou, do ȝe. [verse 6] Forsothe ther weren put [Om. CAP. III.

[verse 1] Forsothe ther was a man of Pharisees [the Phariseis MPQSW.] , Nicodeme bi name, a prince of Jewis. [verse 2] He cam to Jhesu in the nyȝte, and seide to him, Raby, we witen, for of God thou hast come a [Om. GMPVWXY.] maistir; sothli no man may do thes signes [thinges W.] that thou dost, no but [but if M.] God were with him. [verse 3] Jhesu answeride, and seyde to him, Treuli, treuli, I seye to thee, no [Om. MPQS W pr. m. X.] but [but ȝif A sec. m. G sec. m. MPQSWX.] a man schal be born aȝen, he may not se the kyngdom of God. [verse 4] Nyco|deme seide [seith V.] to him, How may a man be born, whanne he is olde? wher [whether WX.] he may entre aȝen in to his modris [modir WXY.] wombe, and be born aȝein? [verse 5] Jhesus answeride [answeride to him V sec. m.] , Treuli, treuli, I seie to thee, no [Om. MPQX.] but [but if A pr. m. G sec. m. [verse 6] That that is born of fleisch, is fleisch; and that that is born of spirit [the spirit W.] , is spirit. seyde to him, Rabi [Raby X.] , or maistir, he that was with thee ouer Jordan, to whom thou hast born witnessinge, lo! he bap|tyseth, and alle men comen to him. [verse 27] John answeride, and seyde, A man may not take ony thing, no [Om. MQX.] but [but ȝif MQWXY.] it be ȝouun to him fro heuene. [verse 28] Ȝe ȝou [ȝoure GNQY.] silf beren witnessing to me, that I seyde, I am not Crist, but for I am sent bifore him. [verse 29] He that hath a [the X.] `spousesse [spouse A sup. ras. [verse 10] Jhesu answeride, and seide [seith N.] to hir, If thou wistist the ȝifte of God, and who it is, that seith to thee, Ȝyue to [Om W.] me for [Om. SX.] `to drynke [drinken X.] , thou perauenture schuldest haue axid of him, and he schulde haue ȝouun to thee quyk watir. [verse 11] The womman seith to him, Sire [Om. W pr. m.] , nether thou hast in what thing thou schalt drawe, and the pitt is deep; therfore wherof hast thou quyk watir? [verse 12] Wher [Whether WX.] thou art more than oure fadir Jacob, that ȝaue to vs this [the AGMPQSTWXY.] pitt? and he drank therof [therfore W.] , and his sones, and his [Om. W pr. m.] beestis. [verse 13] Jhesu answeride, and seide to hir, Ech man that drynkith of this watir, schal thirste eftsoone; forsothe he that schal drynke of the watir that I schal ȝyue to him, schal not thirste in to with [verse 14] outen ende; but the watir that I schal ȝyue to him, schal be maad in him a `welle of [Om. Y.] watir, spryngynge [springe W.] vp in to euere|lastinge lyf. [verse 15] The womman seith to him, Sire, ȝyue to me this watir, that I thirste not, nether come hidir for [Om. SX.] to drawe.

[verse 16] Jhesu seith to hir, Go, clepe thin hose|bonde, and come hidur. [verse 17] The womman answeride, and seide, I haue not an hose|bonde. Jhesu seith to hir, Thou seidist [seist V.] [verse 18] wel, For I haue `not an [noon N.] hosebonde; for|soth thou hast had fyue hosebondis, and he whom thou hast [hast now X.] , is not thin hose|bonde. This thing thou seidist sothli. [verse 19] The womman seith [said N.] to him, Lord, I se, for thou art a prophete. [verse 20] Oure fadris worschipiden in this hil, and ȝe seyn, for at Jerusalem is [ther is W pr. m.] a [Om. S.] place, wher it bihou|eth for [Om. SX.] to worschipe. [verse 21] Jhesu seith to hir, Womman, bileue to me, for the our schal come, whanne nether in this hil, nether [ne N.] in [at S.] Jerusalem, ȝe schulen `preye, or worschipe [preȝen X.] , the fadir. [verse 1] Aftir thes thingis was a feeste day of Jewis, and Jhesu wente vp to [in to M.] Jerusa|lem. [verse 2] Forsoth in [at QSW.] Jerusalem is a `stond|ing watir of beestis [stondende watir S. stondinge watir W.] , that in Ebrew is named Bethsayda, hauynge fiue `litle ȝatis [litil ȝatis, or entrees W.] . [verse 3] In thes [this V.] lay a greet multitude of langwischinge men, blynde, krokid, drye,

abidinge the stiring of the watir. [verse 4] For|sothe the aungel of the Lord `aftir tyme [aftir the time ordeyned Q. aftir that tyme W pr. m.] cam doun in to the stonding watir, and the watir was moued; and he that first cam doun in to the sisterne, aftir the [Om. SW.] mouyng of the watir, was maad hool of `what euere [what W.] siknesse he was holdun [holdyn with W pr. m.] . [verse 5] Forsothe sum man was there, hauynge eiȝte and thritti ȝeeris [ȝeer AGMNQSTVWY.] in his syknesse. [verse 6] Whanne Jhesu hadde seyn him liggynge [liende S.] , and hadde knowe, for now he hadde moche tyme, he seith to him, Wolt thou be maad hool? [verse 7] The syke man answeride to him, Lord, I haue not a man that whanne the water `schal be troublid [is troublid A pr. m. GQSTWXY. is turblid MN.] , he sende me in to the sisterne; forsoth the while I com, another goth down bifore me. [verse 8] Jhesu seith to him, Ryse vp, taak thi bed, and wandre. [verse 9] And a non the man is maad hool, and took vp his bed, and wandride. And saboth was in that day. [verse 10] Therfore the Jewis seyden to him that was maad hool, It is saboth, it is not leefful to thee, for [Om. SVX.] to take thi bed. [verse 11] He answeride to hem, He that maade me hool [saf G pr. m. MTXY.] , seide to me, Taak thi bed, and wandre. [verse 12] Therfore [Forsothe V.] thei axiden him, Who is that man, that seide to thee, Taak thi bed, and wandre? [verse 13] Sothli he that was maad hool, wiste not who it was. V.] he seide his fadir God, makinge him euene to God. And so Jhesu answeride, [verse 19] and seide to hem, Treuli, treuli, I seie to ȝou, the sone may not of him silf do ony thing, no [not X.] but that [Om. W.] thing that he schal se the fadir doynge; what euere thingis sothli he doith, thes thingis and the sone also doith. of dom. [verse 30] I may not of mysilf do ony thing, but as I heere, I iuge, and my dom is iust, for I seke not my wille, but the will of the [that K.] fadir that sente me. [verse 31] If I bere witnessing of my silf, my witness|ing [verse 32] is not trewe; another is that berith witnessing of me, and I woot for his witnessing is trewe, that he berith of me. [verse 33] Ȝe senten to John, and he bar witnessing to the treuthe. [verse 34] Sothly I take not wit|nessing of man; but I seie thes thingis, that ȝe be saf. [verse 35] Sothli [Om. A pr. m. [verse 44] How mown ȝe bileue, that receyuen [receyuen, or taken QW pr. m.] glorie ech of other, and ȝe seken not the glorie that is of God aloone? [verse 45] Nyle ȝe gesse, that I am to accusinge [accuse GMNPQSTWXY.] ȝou anemptis the fadir; it is Moyses that accusith ȝou, in whom ȝe hopen. [verse 46] Forsoth if ȝe bileu|eden

to Moyses, perauenture ȝe schulden bileue and to me; sothli he wroot of me. [verse 47] Sothli if ȝe beleuen not to his lettris, how schulen ȝe bileue to my wordis?

[verse 1] Aftir thes thingis Jhesu wente ouer the se of Galilee, that is Tiberiadis. [verse 2] And a greet multitude suede him; for thei syȝen the tokenes, that he dide on hem that weren syke. [verse 3] Therfore Jhesu wente in to an hil, and `there he sat [sat there AGMNPQSTWXY.] with his dis|ciplis. [verse 4] Forsoth [Forsoth the K pr. m.] pask was ful nyȝ, a feeste day of Jewis [the Jewes PQ.] . [verse 7] Philip answeride to him, The looues of two [twey T.] hundrid pens suffysen not to hem, that ech man take a litle what. [verse 8] Oon of his disciplis, Andrew, the brother of Symount [verse 9] Petre, seith to him, O child is here, that hath fyue barley looues and tweye [two WX.] fysches; but what ben thes thingis among so many men? [verse 10] Therfore Jhesu seith, Make ȝe [Om. W.] men for [Om. SX.] to sitte at the mete. Forsoth there was myche hey in the place. Therfore men saten at the mete, in noumbre as [of X.] fyue thousandis [thousond SX.] . [verse 11] `Ther|fore Jhesu [Jhesu therefore W.] took fyue [the fiue PSW.] looues, and whanne he hadde do thankingis, he departide to men sittinge at [at the WX.] mete, also and of the fischis, as myche as thei wolden. [verse 12] For|sothe as thei ben [weren V.] fillid [fulfillid AGMNPQSTWXY.] , he seide to his disciplis, Gedere ȝe the relyfs that ben left, that thei perischen not. [verse 13] Therfore thei gedriden, and filleden twelue coffyns

[verse 17] And whanne thei hadden stiȝed vp in to the [a A pr. m. G sec. m. QSVW.] boot, thei camen ouer the see in to Capharnaum. And derknessis weren now maad, and Jhesu hadde not comen to hem. [verse 8] Forsothe a greet wynde blowynge, the see roos vp. [verse 19] Therfore whanne thei hadden rowid as fyue and twenty furlongis or thritty, thei seen Jhesu walkinge on the see, and to be maad next to the boot; and thei dredden. [verse 20] Sothli he seyde to hem, I am; nyle ȝe drede. [verse 21] Therfore thei wolden take him `in to [in A pr. m.] the boot, and anon the boot was at the lond in [Om. W.] to which thei wenten. [verse 22] On `the tothir [that other W. the other X.] day the cumpanye, that stood ouer the see, syȝ, for there was non othir boot there no [Om. [verse 23] Forsothe othere bootis camen fro Tibe|riade bisydis the place, where [ther W pr. m.] thei eeten breed, doynge thankingis to God. [verse 24] Ther|fore whanne the cumpany hadden seyn, for Jhesu was not there, nethere his dis|ciplis, thei stiȝeden in to bootis, and camen to Capharnaum, sekinge him [Jhesu AGMNPQSTWXY.] . [verse 25] And whanne thei hadden founden him

ouer the see, thei seyden to him, Raby, hou hast thou com hidur? [verse 26] Jhesu [And Jhesus W.] an|sweride to hem, and seyde, Treuli, treuli, I seie to ȝou, ȝe seken me, not for ȝe syȝ [saien VW.] the [Om. [verse 30] Therefore thei seiden to him, Therfore what tokene doist thou, that we se, and bileue to thee? what worchist thou? [verse 31] Oure fadris eeten manna in desert, as it is writun, He ȝaf to hem breed fro [of N.] heuene for [Om. SX.] to ete. [verse 32] Therfore Jhesu [he T.] seith to hem, Treuli, treuli, I seie to ȝou, not Moyses ȝaf to ȝou very breed fro heuene, but my fadir ȝyueth to ȝou verri breed [verse 33] fro heuene; sothli it is verri breed that cometh doun fro heuene, and ȝyueth lyf to the world. [verse 34] Therfore thei seiden to him, Lord, euere [euermore A pr. m. GMNPQ STWXY.] ȝyue to vs this breed. [verse 35] Sothly Jhesu seide to hem, I am breed of lyf; he that cometh to me, schal not hungre; he that bileueth in me, schal neuere thirste. aȝen reise it in the laste day. [verse 41] Therfore Jewis grucchiden of him, for he hadde [Om. G pr. m. XY.] seyd, I am breed that cam doun fro heuene. [verse 42] And thei seiden, Wher [Whether WX.] this is not Jhesu, the sone of Joseph, whos fadir and modir we han knowun? Therfore hou seith this [he this GMPQSWXY.] , I [For I A pr. m. GMNPQSTWXY.] cam doun fro heuene? [verse 43] Therfore Jhesu answeride, and seide to hem, Nyle ȝe grucche to gidere. [verse 44] No man may come to me, no but the fadir that sente me, schal [Om. [verse 49] Ȝoure fadris eeten manna in desert, and ben deede. [verse 50] This is breed comynge doun fro heuene, that if ony man schal [Om. AG pr. m. NQTW pr. m. XY.] ete therof, he deyeth [dye A sec. m. NQVW sec. m. X.] not. [verse 51] I am quyk breed, that cam doun fro heuene. [verse 52] If ony man schal ete of this bred, he schal lyue with outen ende. And the breed that I schal ȝyue, is my fleisch for lyf of the world. [verse 53] Therfore the Jewis chidden to gidere, seyinge, Hou may this [he this MPSW.] ȝyue to vs his fleisch for [Om. SX.] to ete? [verse 54] Therfore Jhesu seith to hem, Treuly, treuli, I seye to ȝou, no [Om. X.] but [but if X.] ȝe schulen ete the fleisch of mannis sone, and drynke his blood, ȝe schulen not haue lyf in ȝou. [verse 55] He that etith my fleisch, and drynketh my blood, hath euerlasting lyf, and I schal aȝen reyse him in the laste day. [verse 56] Forsoth

[verse 59] This is breed, that cam doun fro heuene. Not as ȝoure fadris eeten manna [manna in desert N.] , and ben deed; he that etith this breed, schal lyue with outen ende. [verse 60] He seide thes thingis in the synagoge, techinge in Capharnaum. [verse 61] Therfore manye of his disciplis heeringe [heringe this W pr. m.] , seyden, This word is hard, who may heere him? [verse 62] Forsoth Jhesu witynge anemptis [at GMNPQSTWXY.] him silf, for his disciplis grucchiden of this thing, seide to hem, This thing sclaundrith ȝou? [verse 63] Therfore if ȝe schulen se mannis sone stiȝynge vp, wher he was bifore? [verse 64] It is the spirit that quykeneth, the fleysch profiteth nothing; the wordis that I haue spokun to ȝou, ben spirit and lyf. [verse 65] But ther ben summe of ȝou that bileuen not. [verse 2] Sothli ther was in the nexte a feeste day of Jewis, Scenofegia, that is, a feeste of tabernaclis. [verse 3] Forsothe his bre|theren seiden to him, Passe fro [Om. ANQT.] hennis, and go in to Judee, that and thi disciplis [verse 4] se thi werkis that thou doist; forsothe no man doth ony thing in `hid place, or priuy [hid place X.] , and he [Om. Q.] sekith to [for to A pr. m. GMNPQTWY.] be `in to [in A pr. m. Q. Om. TX.] opyn. If thou dost `thes thingis [this thing A pr. m. MNPQT.] , schewe thi silf to the world. [verse 5] Forsothe nether his bri|theren [verse 6] bileueden in to him. Therfore Jhesu seith to hem, My time cam not ȝit, but ȝoure tyme is euermore redy. [verse 7] The world may not haue hatid ȝou, sothli it hatith me; for I bere witnessing therof, for the workis of it ben yuele. [verse 8] Stiȝe ȝe vp at this feeste day, but I schal not stiȝe vp at this feeste day, for my tyme is not ȝit fillid [fulfillid GMNPQSTWY. fulfilde X.] . [verse 9] Whanne he hadde [verse 10] seid thes thingis, he dwelte in Galilee. Forsothe as his britheren stiȝeden vp, thanne and he stiȝede vp at the feeste day, not opynli, but as in pryuei. [verse 11] Ther|fore the Jewis souȝten him in the feeste day, and seiden, Wher is he? [verse 12] And moche grucching was of him in the cumpany of peple. [verse 1] And Jhesu passinge, syȝ a man blynd fro the birthe. [verse 2] And his [Om. X.] disciplis axiden him, Raby, `that is, Maistir [Om. SX.] , who [what A pr. m. GNQTY.] syn|nede, this man [Om. S.] , or his fadir and modir, that he schulde be born blynd? [verse 3] Jhesu answeride, Nether this man synnede, nei|ther his fadir and moder; but that the werkis of God be schewid in hym. [verse 4] It bihoueth me [Om. W pr. m.] for [Om. SX.] to worche the werkis of him that sente me, the while the [Om. QW.] day is; the nyȝt schal come, whanne no man may worche. synagoge. [verse 23] Therfore his fadir and modir seiden, For he hath age, axe ȝe him. [verse 24] Therfore eftsoone thei clepiden the man, that was blynd, and seyden to him, Ȝyue thou glorie to God; we witen, for this man is a synner. [verse 25] Therfore he seide, If he is a synner, I woot not [neuer A pr. m. G sec. m. TX. nere G pr. m. MNPQWY.] ; o thing I woot, for whanne I was blynd, now I se. [verse 26] Therfore thei seiden to him, What dide he to thee? how openyde he thin yȝen? [verse 27] He answeride to hem, I seide to ȝou now, and ȝe herden; what wolen ȝe eftsoone heere? wher [whether WX.] and ȝe wolen be maad his disciplis? [verse 28] Therfore thei `wariden, or [Om. X.] answeride, and seide to hem, Forsoth in this thing is wonderful, that [for O.] ȝe witen not of whennis he is, and he hath opened myn yȝen. [verse 31] Sothli we witen, for God heerith not synneris [synneris, or synful men AGNT.] , but if ony man [Om. Q.] is worshiper of God, and doth his wille, hym he heerith. [verse 32] Fro the world it is not herd, that ony man openyde the [verse 33] yȝen of a blynd born [Om. G pr. m. TY.] man; no [Om. X.] but [but if X.] this were of God, he myȝte not do ony thing. [verse 34] Thei answeriden, and seiden to him, Thou art al boren in synnes, and `techist thou [thou techist MXY.] vs? And thei castiden [casten SX.] `out him [him out MXY.] . [verse 39] Therfore Jhesu seide to him, I cam in to this world, in to dom, that thei that seen not, se [see goostly Q.] , and thei that seen,

[verse 1] Treuli, treuli, I seie to ȝou, he that cometh not in by the dore in to the fold of the scheep, but stiȝeth vp by another weye, is [he is GMNPQSTWXY.] nyȝt thef and day thef. [verse 2] Forsothe he that entrith by the dore, is [he is N.] the schep|herde of the scheep. [verse 3] To this the porter openeth, and the scheep heeren his vois, and he clepith his owne scheep by name, and ledith out hem. [verse 4] And whanne he hath sent out his owne scheep, he goth bifore hem, and the scheep suwen him; for thei knowen his vois. [verse 5] Sothli thei suwen not an [Om. G pr. m. Y.] alien, but fleen fro him; for thei han not knowen the voys of alyens. [verse 6] Jhesu seide to hem this prouerbe; forsoth thei knewen not what he spak to hem. X.] but that he stele, and sle, and leese; I cam, that thei haue lyf, and haue more plenteuously. [verse 16] And I haue othere scheep, that ben not of this folde, and it bihoueth me for to `leede hem to [Om. [verse 25] Jhesu answeride to hem, I speke to ȝou, and ȝe bileuen not; the workis that I do in the name of my fadir, thes beren witnessing [wittenesse TXY.] of me. [verse 26] But and ȝe bileuen not, for ȝe ben not of my scheep. [verse 27] My scheepe heeren my vois, and I knowe hem, and thei suen me. [verse 28] And I ȝyue to hem euerelasting lyf, and thei schulen not perische in to with outen ende, and ony man schal not rauysche hem of [out of Q.] myn hond. [verse 29] That thing that my fadir ȝaf to me, is more than alle; therfore no man

may rauysche fro my fadris [fadir QX.] hond. [verse 30] `I and the fadir [And the fadir and Y Q.] ben o thing. [verse 31] Jewis token vp stoones, for [Om. W.] werkis of my fadir, for which werk of hem stoonen ȝe me? [verse 33] The Jewis answeriden to him, We stoonen `not thee [thee not MPQTXY.] of good work, but of blas|phemye, and for thou, sithen thou art a man, makist thi silf God. [verse 37] If I do not the workis of [verse 38] my fadir, nyle ȝe bileue to me; sothli if I do, thouȝ ȝe wolen not bileue to me, `bileue ȝe [beleueth X.] to the workis; that ȝe knowe and bileue, for the fadir is in me, and I in the fadir. [verse 39] Therfore thei souȝten for [Om. SX.] to take him, and he wente out of her hondis. [verse 40] And he wente eftsoone ouer Jordan, in to that place where John was first [Om. [verse 12] Therfore his disciplis seiden, Lord, if he slepith [slepe W.] , he schal be saf. [verse 13] Forsothe Jhesu hadde seid of his deeth; but thei gessiden, that he seide of the [Om. AGMNPQSTWXY.] slepinge of sleep. [verse 14] Thanne ther|fore Jhesu seide to hem opynli, Laza|rus [verse 15] is deed; and I [therfore I N.] enioye for ȝou, that ȝe beleue, for [that N.] I was not there; but go we to him. [verse 16] Therfore Thomas, that is seid Didymus, seide to euen disciplis, And go we, that we deye with him. [verse 17] And so Jhesu cam, and fond him hauynge now foure dayes in the graue. [verse 18] Sothli Bethanye was bisydis Jerusalem, as fiftene furlongis. [verse 19] Forsothe manye of Jewis camen to Marie and Martha, for [Om. SX.] to comforte hem of [on X.] her brother. [verse 20] Therfore as Martha herde, for Jhesu cam, she renneth to him; Marie forsothe sat at hom. [verse 21] Therfore Martha seide to Jhesu, Lord, if thou haddist be here, my brother hadde not be deed. [verse 22] But and now I woot, that what euere thingis thou schalt axe of God, God schal ȝyue to

thee. [verse 23] Jhesus seith to hir, Thi brother schal ryse aȝen. [verse 24] Martha seith to him, I woot, for he schal ryse aȝen in the aȝen|rysing in the laste day. [verse 25] Jhesu seith to hir, I am aȝenrisyng and lyf; he that bileueth in [in to A pr. m. GMNPQSTWXY.] me, ȝhe, if [thouȝ Q.] he schal be deed, [verse 26] schal [he schal QW pr. m. [verse 28] And whanne she hadde seide this thing, she wente, and clepide Marie, hir sistir, in silence, `or stilnesse [Om. QX.] , seyinge, The maistir cometh, and clepith thee. [verse 29] She, as she herde, roos anon, and cam to him. [verse 30] Sothli Jhesu cam not ȝit in to the castel, but he was ȝit in that place, wher Martha hadde comen aȝens him. [verse 31] Ther|fore the Jewis that weren with hir in the hous, and comfortiden hir, whanne thei siȝen Marie, for soone she roos, and wente out, sueden hir, seyinge, For she goth to the graue, for [Om. X.] to wepe there. [verse 32] Forsothe Marie, whanne she hadde seyn wher Jhesu was, seynge him felde [fell doun T.] to his feet, and seide to him, Lord, if thou haddist be here, my brother hadde not be deed. [verse 33] `Therfore as [Therfore Q.] Jhesu siȝ hir wepynge, and the Jewis that weren with hir wepinge, he made [verse 34] noyse in spirit, and troublide him silf, and seide, Wher han ȝe putt him? Thei seyen to him, Lord, come and se. [verse 35] And Jhesu wepte [weep X.] . [verse 36] Therfore the Jewis seiden, Lo! hou he louede him. [verse 37] Forsothe summe of hem seiden, Wher [Whether WX.] this man that openyd the yȝen of the born blynde [blynde man Q.] , miȝte not make that and this deiede not? Martha, the sistir of him that was deed, seith to him [Jhesu Q.] , Lord, he stynkith now, sothli he is of foure dayes [dayes deed QW.] . [verse 40] Jhesus seith to hir, `Wher I haue [Whether I haue A sup. ras. Haue I GMNPQSTWXY.] not seid to thee, for if thou schalt bileue, thou schalt se the glorie of God? [verse 41] Therfore thei tooken a wey the stoon. Forsothe the yȝen reysid vpward, Jhesu seide, Fadir, I do thank|yngis [verse 42] to thee, for thou herdist me; for|soth I wiste, for thou euere [euermore AGMNQSTWXY.] heerest me, but for the peple that stondith [stant X.] aboute, I seide, that thei bileue, for thou hast sent me. [verse 51] Forsoth he seide not this thing of him silf, but whanne he was bischop of that ȝeer, he prophesiede, for [verse 52] Jhesu was to deyinge [die AGMNPQSTWXY.] for the folk, and not oonly for the folk, but that he schulde

gedere in to oon the sones of God that weren scaterid. [verse 53] Therfore fro that day thei thouȝten for [Om. SX.] to sle him. [verse 56] Therfore thei souȝten Jhesu, and spaken to gidere, stondinge in the temple, What gessen ȝe, for he cometh not to the feeste day? Forsothe the [Om. CAP. XII.

[verse 1] Therfore Jhesu bifore sixe dayes of pask cam to Bethanye, wher Lazarus was [is I.] deed, whom Jhesu reyside. [verse 2] Forsoth [For N.] thei maden to him a sopere there, and Martha mynistride to hym; Lazarus for|sothe was oon of men [the men SXY.] sittinge at the mete with him. [verse 3] Therfore Marie took a pound of `oynement spikenard [trewe narde O. oynement precious spekenard MP.] , `or trewe narde [Om. G pr. m. MNPQSTW pr. m. [verse 7] Therfore Jhesu seide, Suffre ȝe hir, that

in to the day of my birying she kepe [verse 8] that; forsothe ȝe schulen euer [euermore AGMNPQSTWXY.] haue pore men [Om. T.] with ȝou, sothli ȝe schulen not euere [euermore AGMNPQSTWXY.] haue me. [verse 9] Therfore myche cumpany of the [Om. S.] Jewis knewe, that Jhesu was there; and thei camen, not oonly for Jhesu, but for [Om. SX.] to se Lazarus, whom he reysede fro `deede men [deed AMNPST. deeth GQWXY.] . [verse 10] Forsothe the princes of [verse 11] prestis thouȝten for [Om. SX.] to sle Lazarus, for manye of the [Om. [verse 12] Forsothe on the morwe a myche cumpany, that cam togidere at the feeste day, whanne thei hadden herd, for Jhesu cometh [cam Q.] to Jeru|salem, [verse 13] tooken braunchis of palmes, and camen forth aȝens him, and crieden, O|sanna, blessid is he, that cometh in the name of the Lord, `king of Israel [king of Jeru|salem T.] . [verse 14] And Jhesu fond a litil asse, and sat on [vpon A pr. m. GMNPWY.] him, [verse 15] as it is writun, The [Om. [verse 22] Philip cometh, and seith to Andrew; eft Andrew and Philip

seiden to Jhesu. [verse 23] Sothli Jhesu answeride to hem, seyinge, The our cometh, that mannis sone be clarified. [verse 24] Treuli, treuli, I seie to ȝou, no [Om. [verse 28] Therfore a vois cam fro heuene, seyinge, And I haue clarified, and eft [ȝit A pr. m. G pr. m. MNPQTXY. Om. V.] I schal clarifie. [verse 1] Forsothe bifore the feeste day of pask Jhesu witinge, for his our cometh, that he passe of [ouer K.] this world to the fadir, whanne he hadde [Om. Q.] loued hise that weren in the world, in to the ende he louede hem. [verse 2] And the souper maad, whanne the deuel hadde sent now in to the herte of Judas, `that Judas [Om. QSW.] of Symount Scarioth schulde [that he shulde Q. that Judas schulde S.] bi|traye [verse 3] him, he witinge for [that Q.] the fadur ȝaf alle thingis to him in to hondis [his hondis G sec. m. MPQW.] , and that he wente out fro God, and goth to God, [verse 4] risith fro the souper, and puttith his clothis; and whanne he hadde takun a lynnen cloth, he bifore girde him. [verse 5] Aftir|ward he sente water in to a basyn, and bigan for [Om. SX.] to waische disciplis [his disciplis GMPQSWXY.] feet, and to wype with the lynnen cloth, with which [the whiche Q.] he was bifore [Om. QW pr. m.] gird. [verse 6] Therfore he cam to Symount Petre, and Petre seith to him, Lord, `waischist thou [what thou waschist M.] to me the feet? [verse 7] Jhesu answeride, and seide to him, What thingis I do, thou woost not now; forsothe thou schalt wite aftirward. [verse 8] Petre seith to him, Thou schalt not waische to me the [Om. M.] feet, in to with outen ende. Jhesu answeride to him, If I schal not waische thee, thou schalt not haue part with me. [verse 9] Symount Petre seith to him, Lord, not oonly my feet, but and the [myn Q.] hondis and the heed. [verse 10] Jhesu seide to him, He that is waischun, hath no nede no [Om. QW pr. m.] but that he waische the feet, but he is clene al; and ȝe ben clene, but not alle. [verse 11] Forsothe he wiste [wiste wel MPTXY.] , who schulde bitraye him; therfore he seide, Ȝe ben not clene alle. pursis, that Jhesu hadde seid to him, Bye thou tho thingis, that ben nedeful to vs at the feeste day, or that he schulde ȝyue [haue ȝouen Q.] sum thing to nedy men. [verse 30] Therfore whanne he hadde take the morsel, he wente out a non; forsoth it was nyȝt. [verse 31] Therfore whanne he hadde gon out, Jhesu seide, Now mannis sone is clarified, and God is clarified in him. [verse 32] If God is clarified in him, and God schal clarifye him in him silf, and a non he schal clarifie him. [verse 33] Litil sones, ȝit a litil I am with ȝou; ȝe schulen seke me, and, as I seide to the Jewis, Whidur I go, ȝe mown not come; and to ȝou I seie now. [verse 34] I ȝyue to ȝou a newe maundement, that ȝe loue to gidere, as I louede ȝou, that and ȝe loue to gedere. MPQTWXY.] come, and I schal take ȝou to my silf, that where I am, and ȝe be. [verse 4] And

[verse 6] Jhesu seith to him, I am weye, treuthe, and lyf; no man cometh to the fadir, no but by me. [verse 8] In this thing my fadir is clari|fied, that ȝe brynge moost fruyt, and ȝe be maad my disciplis. [verse 9] As my fadir lou|ede me, and I louyde ȝou; dwelle ȝe in my loue. [verse 10] If ȝe schulen kepe my comaunde|mentis [maunde|mentes GMXY.] , ȝe schulen dwelle in my loue; as and I haue kept the comaundementis [maundementes GMXY.] of my fadir, and I dwelle in his loue. [verse 1] Thes thingis I haue spokun to ȝou, that ȝe ben not sclaundrid. [verse 2] Thei schulen

SX.] to ȝyue sacrifice [seruise AGMNPQSTVWXY.] to God. [verse 3] And thei schulen do to ȝou thes thingis, for thei han not knowe the fadir, nethir me. [verse 4] But thes thingis I spak to ȝou, that whanne the our of hem schal come, ȝe haue mynde, for I seide to ȝou. [verse 5] I seide not to ȝou thes thingis fro the bigynnyng, for I was with ȝou. And now I go to him that sente me, and no man of ȝou askith [axith plures.] me, Whidur `thou goist [goyst thou MPQSWX.] ? [verse 6] but for I haue spokyn to ȝou thes thingis, sorwe, `or heuynesse [Om. X.] , hath fulfillid ȝoure herte. TY.] to heuene, he seide, Fadir, the our cometh, clarifie thi sone, that thi sone clarifie thee. [verse 2] As thou hast ȝouun to him power of ech fleisch, `or man [Om. X.] , that al thing that thou hast ȝouun to hym, he ȝyue to hem euerlasting lyf. [verse 3] Forsothe [For N.] this is [Om. N.] euerlasting lyf, that thei knowe thee aloone verry God, and whom thou sentist, Jhesu Crist. [verse 4] I haue clarifyed thee on erthe [the erthe A pr. m. OTVY.] , I haue endid the werk, that thou hast ȝouun to me, that I do. [verse 5] And now, fadir, clarifie thou [Om. QSW.] me at thi silf, with clerenesse [cleennesse Q. the cleernesse S.] that I hadde at thee, bifore the world was maad. [verse 6] I haue schewid thi name to the [Om. [verse 9] I preie for hem, not for the world, but for hem, that thou hast ȝouun to me, for thei

ben thine. [verse 10] And alle myne thingis ben thine, and thin thingis ben myne; and I am clarified in hem. [verse 11] And now I am not in the world, and thes ben in the world, and I come to thee. [verse 26] And I haue maad thi name knowe to hem, and schal make knowe; that the loue by which thou hast loued me, be in hem, and I in hem.

[verse 1] Whanne Jhesu hadde seid thes thingis, he wente out with his disciplis ouer the strond of Cedron, where was a ȝerd, `or a gardyn [Om. AGMNPQSTVWXY.] , in to which he entride, and his disciplis. [verse 2] Sothli and Judas, that bitrai|ede him, wiste the place, for ofte Jhesu cam to gidere thidur with his disciplis. [verse 3] Therfore whanne Judas hadde takun a cumpany of kniȝtis, and [Om. Q. and mynistris W pr. m.] of the [Om. MSW.] bischopis and Pharisees mynystris, he cam [cam thidur A pr. m. K.] tribune, and the mynystris of Jewis, [verse 13] token Jhesu, and bounden him, and ledden him `first to Annas [to Annas first K.] ; sothli he was fadir [the fader G sec. m. [verse 19] Therfore the bischop axide Jhesu of his disciplis, and of his teching. [verse 20] Jhesu answeride to him, I haue spokun opynly to the world; I tauȝte euere [euer more A pr. m. [verse 23] Jhesu answeride to him, If I haue spokun yuele, bere thou witnessing of yuel; sothli

if wel, whi smytist thou me? [verse 24] And Annas [verse 25] sente him boundun to Cayfas, the [Om. AG pr. m. NTXY.] bischop. Forsothe Symount Petre was stondynge and warmynge him; therfore thei seiden to him, Wher [Whether X.] and thou art his disciple? He denyede, and seyde, I am not. [verse 29] Therfore Pilat wente out with oute forth to hem, and seide, What accusing brynge ȝe aȝens this man? [verse 30] Thei answeriden, and seiden to hym, If this were not [no S.] a mys|doer, we hadden [han N.] not bitakun hym to thee. [verse 34] Jhesu answeride, and seide to him, Seist thou this thing of thi silf, ether [or MQ. outher X.] othere seiden to thee of me? [verse 35] Pilat answeride, Wher [Whether X.] I am a Jew? Thi folk and bischopis bytokun thee to me; what hast thou don? [verse 36] Jhesu answeride, My kyng|dom is not of this world; if my kyngdom were of this world, sothly my mynystris schulden stryue, that I schulde not be takun to the Jewis; now forsothe my kyngdom is not of hennis [heuenes Y.] , or of this place [Om. X.] . [verse 37] And so Pilat seide to him, `Ther|fore art thou kyng [a kyng X.] ? Jhesu answeride,

[verse 39] Forsoth it is a [Om. [verse 2] And knyȝtis foldinge a crowne of thornes, puttiden [putten SX.] on [to GMNPQSTWXY.] his heed, and diden aboute him a cloth of purpur, [verse 3] and camen to him, and seiden, Heyl, kyng of Jewis. [verse 4] And thei ȝauen to hym boffatis. Eft [Eftsoone AGMNPQSTWXY.] Pilat wente out, and seide to hem, Lo! I lede him to ȝou with oute forth, that ȝe knowe, for I fynde no cause in him. [verse 5] Therfore Jhesu wente out [Om. K.] , beringe a crowne of thornes, and a clooth of pur|pur. And he seith to hem, Loo! the man. [verse 6] Therfore whanne the bischopis and mynystris hadde seyn him, thei crieden, seyinge, Crucifie, crucifie him. Pilate seith to hem, Take ȝe him, and `crucifie ȝe [crucifie ȝe him N. crucifieth X.] , sothli I fynde no cause in him. [verse 7] The Jewis answeriden to him, We han a lawe, and vpon [aftir A pr. m. [verse 11] Jhesu answeride, Thou schuldist not haue ony power aȝens me, no [Om. X.] but [but if X.] it were ȝouuen to thee fro aboue; therfore he that bitook [bitrayede M.] me to thee, hath the more synne. [verse 12] Ther|of, `or fro thennus [Om. X.] , Pilat souȝte for [Om. The bischopis answeriden, We han no [not a GMNPQSTWXY.] kyng no but Cesar. [verse 16] Therfore thanne Pilat bitook him to hem, that he schulde be crucifyed. Greek, and Latyn. [verse 21] Therfore the bischops of Jewis [the Jewes N.] seiden to Pilat, Nyle thou write kyng of Jewis, but for he seyde, I am kyng of Jewis. [verse 22] Pilat answeride, That that I haue writen, I haue writen. [verse 23] Ther|fore the knyȝtis whanne thei hadden crucified him, token his clothis, and maden foure partis, to ech knyȝt a part, and a coote. Forsothe the coote was with out seem, and aboue wouun bi al. [verse 24] Therfore thei seiden to gidere, Kitte we not it, but leye we lott, whos it is; that the scripture be fillid [fulfild A pr. m. GMNPQSTWXY.] , seyinge, Thei partiden my clothis to hem, and in to my cloth thei senten lott. And sothli knyȝtis diden thes thingis.
