Jerico. [verse 2] And lo! a man, Zachee by name, and he [this AGMNOPQSTWXY.] was prince of pupplicans, and he was [Om. A pr. m. G pr. m. MNPQSTXY.] riche. [verse 3] And he souȝte to [for to AGMNOPQTWY.] see Jhesu, who he was, and he myȝte not, for the cumpany [cumpanye of puple AGMNPQSTWXY. company of the pepil O.] , for he was litel in stature. [verse 4] And he rennynge bifore, stiȝede [stiȝed vp AGMNOPQSTWY. steiȝ vp X.] in to a sycamoure tree, that he schulde see Jhesu [him AGMNOPQSTWXY.] ; for he was to passinge [passe AGMNOPQSTWXY.] thennis. [verse 5] And Jhesu biholdinge vpward [vp AGMNOPQSTWXY.] , whanne he cam to the place, syȝ him, and seyde to him, Zachee, `hastinge cum doun [hiynge come doun AGMNPQSTWY. cumme doun hiȝynge O. heȝende cum doun X.] , for to day I moot [most O. mut MP.] dwelle in thin hous. [verse 6] And he hast|inge [hiȝynge AGMNOPQSTWY. heeȝ|ende X.] cam doun, and ioyinge reseyuede him. [verse 7] And whanne alle men sayen, thei grucchiden, seyinge, For he hadde [was U.] turned to a synful man. [verse 8] Forsoth Zachee stond|inge seide to the Lord, Lo! Lord, I ȝyue the half of my goodis to pore men; and if I haue ony thing defraudid ony man, I ȝelde the [Om. U.] fourefold [fourth foold O.] . [verse 9] Jhesu seide [saith AGMNOPQSTWXY.] to him, For in this day heelthe is maad to this [thin Y.] hous, for and [that AGMOPQSTWXY. that and N.] he is `the sone of Abraham [Abrahames sone AGMNOPQSTWXY.] ; [verse 10] forsothe mannis sone cam to [for to AGMNOPQTWY.] seke, and make [to make AGMNOQSTWXY.] saaf this [that AGMNOPQSTWY.] thing that perischede. [verse 16] Forsoth the firste cam, sey|inge, Lord, thi besaunt hath wunne ten besauntis. [verse 17] He seide [saith AGMNOPQSTWXY.] to him, Wel be, thou goode seruaunt; for in litil thing thou hast be trewe, thou schalt [shalt and Q.] haue [be hafynge AGMNOPQSTWXY.] power on [vpon AGMNOPQTWY.] ten citees. [verse 18] And another [the tother AGMNOPQSWXY. that other T.] cam, seyinge, Lord, thi besaunt hath maad fyue be|sauntis. [verse 19] And he seide [saith AGMNOPQSTWY.] to this, And be thou on [vpon AGMNOPQTWY.] fyue citees. [verse 20] And the thridde cam, seyinge, Lord, lo! thi besaunt, which [that AGMNOPQSTWXY.] I hadde, kept [put vp AGMPQSTWXY. put N.] in a sudarie, `ether sweting cloth [Om. COX. or swetynge cloth GMPY.] . [verse 21] Forsoth I dredde thee, for thou art an austerne man; thou takist awey `this thing which [that ACQOT. that that GMNPSWXY.] thou settist [settidist CMPV.] not, and thou repist `this thing which [that that AGMNPQSTWXY. that at O.] thou hast not sowe. [verse 22] He seith to him, Weyward seruaunt, of thi mouth I deme thee. [verse 24] And he seide to hem [men AGMNOPQSTWXY.] `that stooden [stondynge AGMNOPQSTWX.] nyȝ, Take ȝe awey fro him the besaunt, and ȝyue ȝe [ȝe it MP.] to him that hath ten besauntis. [verse 25] And thei seiden to him, Lord, he hath ten besauntis. [verse 26] Sothli I seie to ȝou, for to ech hauynge it schal be ȝouun, and he [it O.] schal `be plenteuous [abounde, or be plenteuouse AGMNPQSTWY. abounde OX.] ; but fro him that hath not, `also this [and that AGMNOPQSTWXY.] thing [Om. C.] that he [Om. Y.] hath, schal be takun of [fro X.] him. [verse 27] Netheles brynge ȝe hidir tho myne enemyes, that nolde [wolden not AGMNOPQSTWXY.] me to [Om. AG pr. m. he cam nyȝ to Bethfage and Betanye, at the mount, which [that AGMNOPQSTWXY.] is clepid of [Om. A pr. m. TVY.] Olyuete, [verse 30] he sente his tweye disciplis, seyinge, Go ȝe in to the castel, which [that MPWXY.] is aȝens ȝou; in to which [the whiche O.] ȝe entrynge schulen fynde a colt of a [Om. Q.] she asse [asse tied ACGMNOPQSTVXY.] , on [to MNPQSTXY.] which [whom MNOPQSTXY.] non of men euere saat; vnbynde ȝe him, and `brynge ȝe [bringeth X.] to me. [verse 31] And if ony man schal [Om. A pr. m. G pr. m. MNOPQSTXY.] axe, whi ȝe vnbynden, thus ȝe schulen seye to him, For the Lord desyrith his work. [verse 32] Forsothe thei that weren sent, wenten forth, and founden as he seyde to hem, a colt stondinge. [verse 33] Sothli hem vntyynge [vnbyndynge AGMNOPQSTWXY. vnkyttinge V sec. m.] the colt, the lordis of him seyde to hem, What [Whi C.] vntyen ȝe the colt? [verse 34] And thei seiden, For the Lord hath him nedful. [verse 35] And thei ledden him to Jhesu; and thei, castinge her clothis on [vpon AGMNOQTWY.] the colt, puttedyn [putten SX.] Jhesu on him. [verse 36] Forsothe him [hem A.] goynge, thei vn|dir strewiden her clothis in the weye. [verse 37] And whanne now [Om. K.] he cam nyȝ to the comynge doun of the hil [mount AGMNOPQSTWXY.] of Olyuete, alle the cum|panyes of men comynge doun bigunnen [bigynnen K.] ioyinge to [for to AGMNOPQTWY.] herie God with greet vois on [verse 38] alle the vertues, whiche [that AGMNOPQSTWXY.] thei syȝen, seyinge, Blessid is [Om. S.] the kyng, that cometh in the name of the Lord; pees in heuene, and glorie in hiȝ thingis. [verse 39] And summe of the [Om. AGMNOPSTWX.] Pharisees of the cumpanyes seyden to him, Maistir, blame thi disciplis. [verse 40] To whiche [whom MPQXY.] he seide [saith AGMNOPQSTWXY.] , I seye to ȝou, for if thes [these thinges N.] schulen be stille, stoones schulen crye. [verse 41] And whanne he neiȝede, he seynge the citee, wepte on [vpon OQ.] [verse 42] it [Om. Q.] seyinge, For if [Om. W.] thou haddist knowe, and thou, and [Om. N.] sotheli in this thi [Om. [verse 45] And he gon [vpon AGMNOPQTWY.] in to the temple, bigan to [for to AGMNOPQTWY.] caste out men sellinge ther ynne [verse 46] and biggynge [byynge AGMNOPQSTVWY. biende X.] , seyinge to hem, It is writun, For [That ACMNPQSTVWXY.] myn hous is an hous of preier, for|sothe ȝe han maad it a den of theuys. [verse 47] And he was techinge euery day in the temple. Forsoth the princes [prince OT.] of prestis, and scribis [the scribis AGMNOPQSTWY.] , and the princis [Farisees K.] of the peple [verse 48] souȝten `to leese [for to leese AGMNPQTWY. for to slee O.] him; and thei founden not what thei schulden do to him, for [sothli AGMNPQSTWX. forsothe O.] al the peple was `al ocupyed, heeringe [reisid to God, or al ocupied, herynge A sup. ras.
