[verse 1] Forsothe pupplicans and synful men weren neiȝinge to him, that thei schulden heere him. [verse 2] And Farisees and scribis grucchiden, seyinge, For this man [Om. AGMNOPQS TWXY.] re|ceyueth synful men, and etith with hem. [verse 3] And he seith to hem this parable, seiynge, [verse 4] What man of ȝou that hath an hundrid scheep, and if he `hath lost [schal lese GMNOPQTXY.] oon of hem, wher [whether X.] he leeuith [leue NO.] not nynty and nyne in desert, and goth to it that perischide, til he fynde it? [verse 5] And whanne he hath founden it, he ioyinge puttith on [in to AGMNOPQSTWXY.] his [verse 6] shuldris; and he [Om. AGM NOPQSTWXY.] comynge hoom clep|ith `to gidere [Om. X.] his frendis and neiȝebors, seyinge to hem, `Thanke ȝe [Glade ȝe with U sec. m.] me [to me G sec. m. MP. togider with me O.] , for I haue founden my [the MNPQTXY.] scheep, which [that GMNOPQSTWXY.] `hadde perischid [I hadde lost MNPQTXY.] . [verse 7] Sothly I seye to ȝou, so ioye

schal be in heuene on o [oen X.] synful man doynge penaunce, than of [vpon AGMNOPQSTWY.] nynti and nyne iuste, that han no nede of [to AGMNOPQSTUVWXY.] pen|aunce. [verse 8] Ether [Or AGMNOPQSTWXY.] what womman hauynge ten `dragmes, ether besauntis [dragmes, or besauntis GMPY. besauntis O. dragmes X.] , and if sche `hath lost [schal lese A pr. m. GMNOPQTXY.] o dragme, wher [whethir QX.] she liȝteth [teendith AGMNOPQSTWXY. liȝteneth UV.] not a lanterne, and turneth vpsodoun the hous, and sekith diligently, til [til that AGMNOPQSTWXY.] sche fynde [fyndeth O.] ? [verse 9] And whanne sche hath founden, sche clepith to gidere frendis and neiȝe|boris, seyinge, `Thanke ȝe [Togydere thanke ȝe P. Glade ȝe with U sec. m.] me [togider to me O.] , for I haue founden the dragme, which [that AGMNOPQSTWXY.] I hadde lost. [verse 10] So I seie to ȝou, ioye schal be to the [Om. AGMNOPQSTWXY.] aungels of God `on o [vpon a AT. vpon OO GMNPQSWY. vpon oon O.] synful man doynge penaunce. [verse 11] Forsothe he seith, Sum [verse 12] man hadde tweye [two MPQUWXY.] sones; and the ȝongere seide to the [his O.] fadir, Fadir, ȝyue to [Om. N.] me the porcioun of substaunce, `ethir catel [or catel GMPWY. Om. OX.] , that `byfallith to [bifallith A pr. m. G pr. m. PQTX. fallith O.] me. And `the fadir [he AGMNOPQSTWXY.] de|partide to him [hem MOPQTUV sec. m. XY.] the [Om. A pr. m. MNPT.] substaunce. [verse 13] And not aftir manye dayes, alle thingis gederid to gidre, the ȝongere [ȝonge W.] sone wente in [fer on AGMNOPTW sec. m. XY. fer in QS. forth in UV. forth on W pr. m.] pil|grymage in to a fer [Om. G pr. m.] cuntree; and there he [Om. AGMNOPQSTWXY.] wastide his substaunce [substaunce, or goodis AGMPSTWY.] in [Om. N.] lyuynge leccherously. [verse 14] And aftir that he hadde endid alle thingis, a [and K.] strong hungir was [is A pr. m. G pr. m. MNOPQSTXY.] maad in [in to O.] that [the ASW.] cuntree, and he bigan to [for to AGMNOPQTWY.] haue nede. [verse 15] And he [Om. K.] wente, and cleuyde to oon of the citeseyns [burgeis AGNQTUVW. burgeysis MOPSXY.] of that cuntree. And he sente him in to his toun, that he schulde feede hoggis. [verse 16] And he coueitide to [for to AGMNOPQTWY.] fille [fulfille AG sec. m. MNOPQSTWXY.] his wombe of the coddis whiche [that AGMNOPQSTWXY.] the hoggis eeten, and no man ȝaf to him. [verse 17] Sothli he turned aȝen in to him silf, seyde, Hou many hirid men in my fadir [fadres ANOSUV.] hous, `han plente of [habounden in AGMNPQSTUVWY. habunden with O. abounden with X.] looues; forsothe I perische here thurȝ [in AGMPQSTXY. for NO. in for W.] hungir. [verse 18] I schal ryse [ryse vp AGMNOPQSTWXY.] , and `I

schal [Om. AGMNOPQSTWXY.] go to my fadir, and I schal seie to him, Fadir, I haue synned aȝens [in to A pr. m. G pr. m. MNOPQSTXY.] heuene, [verse 19] and bifore thee; now I am not worthi to [for to AGMNOPQTW sec. m. Y.] be clepid thi sone, make me as oon of thi hyrid men. [verse 20] And he rysinge cam to his fadir. Sothli whanne he was ȝit fer, his fadir syȝ him, and `he was [is AG pr. m. MNOPQSTXY. was UV.] stirid by mercy. And he rennynge to, `felde on [felde vpon AGMNPQTY. fell vpon OW. fel on SX.] his necke, and kiste him. [verse 21] And the sone seyde to him, Fadir, I haue synned aȝens [in to A pr. m. G pr. m. MNOPQSTXY.] heuene, and bifore thee; and now I am not worthi to [for to AGMNOPQTWY.] be clepid thi sone. [verse 22] Forsoth the fadir seyde to his seruauntis, Soone bringe ȝe forth the firste stoole, and clothe [clothith SX.] ȝe [Om. AGMNOPQSTXY.] him, and ȝyue ȝe a ring in his hond, [verse 23] and schoon in [Om. O.] to the [Om. A pr. m. G pr. m. MNPQTXY.] feet; and `brynge ȝe [brynge ȝe to AGMNOPQSTWY. bringeth to X.] a calf maad fat, and sle ȝe, and ete we, and plenteuously ete we [glade we in plen|teuouse etynge A pr. m. G pr. m. MNPQTXY. in plenteuos eetynge ete we O.] . [verse 24] For this my sone was deed, and hath lyued aȝen; he perischide, and is founden. And alle [alle men AGMNPQSTWXY.] bigunnen to [for to AGMNOPQTWY.] eat plenteuously [gladly A pr. m. GMNOPQSTXY.] . [verse 25] Forsoth his eldere sone was in the feeld; and whanne he cam, and neiȝede to the hous, he herde a symphonye [sinfon X.] and a crowde [caroule, or croude AGMPQTWXY. a caroule, or croude NS.] . [verse 26] And he clepide oon of the seruauntis, and axide, what `thingis thes [thees thengis AGMNOPQSTUVWX.] weren. [verse 27] And he seide to him, Thi brodir is comen, and thi fadir `hath slayn [slowȝe AGMNOQSTWY. slew P. slooȝ X.] a fat [fattid AGMPQSTWXY.] calf, for he receyuede him saf. [verse 28] Forsoth he was wroth, and wolde not entre. Therfore his fadir gon out, bigan to [for to OT.] preie him. [verse 29] And he answeringe to his fadir, seide, Lo! so manye ȝeeris I serue to thee, and I `brak neuere [neuere passede ouer, or brak AGMNPQSTWY. neuer passid ouer OX.] thi comaundement [comaundementis Q.] ; thou [and thou AGMNOPQSTUVWXY.] `hast neuere [neuere hast AGMNOPQSTXY.] ȝouun [ȝyue Q. ȝeue Y.] `a kyde to me [to me a kydde AGMNOPQSTWXY.] , that I schulde `ete largely with my frendis [with my frendis be fulfillid AGMNOPQSTWXY.] . [verse 30] But aftir that this thi [Om. AQ pr. m.] sone, which [that hath AGMNOPQSTWXY.] deuouride his substaunce with hooris, cam, thou

hast slayn to him a fat [fattid A pr. m. GMOPQSWXY.] calf. [verse 31] And he seide to him, Sone, thou ert euere [euermore AGMNOPQSTWXY.] with me, and alle myne thingis ben thyne. [verse 32] Forsothe it bihofte [byhoueth AGMNO.] to [for to AGMNOPQTWY.] ete plenteuously, and for [Om. AGMNOPQSTWXY.] to ioye; for this thi brother was deed, and lyuede [lyueth T.] aȝeyn; he peryschide, and he [Om. AGMNOPQSTUWXY.] is founden.
