[verse 2] And the saboth maad, Jhesus [he UV.] bigan

And manye heeringe wondriden in his techinge, sey|inge, Of whennis `to this [ben UV. to him this MP.] alle these thingis [thingis to this man UV.] ? and what is the wysdom that [which UV.] is ȝouun to him, and suche vertues `the whiche [that GUVXY.] ben maad by his hond [hondis UV.] ? [verse 3] Wher this is not a [the MPT.] smyth, `or carpenter [Om. AX.] , the sone of Marie, the brother of James and Joseph [of Joseph UV.] and Judas [of Judas UV.] and Symound [of Symount UV.] ? wher [whether GOMPTWXY.] and [Om. Q. also UV.] his sistris ben nat here with vs? And thei weren sclaundrid in him. [verse 4] And Jhesus seide to hem, For a prophete is not with outen honour [worschype, or honour w pr. m.] , no but in his owne [Om. UV.] cuntree, and in his hows, and in his kyn. [verse 5] And he myȝte not make there ony vertu, no but [but he UV.] heelide a fewe sike men, the hondis put to. [verse 6] And he won|dride for the vnbileue [vnfeithfulnesse UV.] of hem. And he wente aboute castelis in enuyrown [cumpas UV.] , tech|inge. [verse 7] And he clepide [clepide togidere UV.] twelue, and bigan for [Om. SUX.] to sende hem bi tweyne [two GMOPQXY. tweyne and tweyne UV.] ; and ȝaf [he ȝaf OU.] to [verse 8] hem power of vnclene spiritis, and [and he UV.] co|maundide hem, that thei schulde not take [bere UV.] ony thing in the weye, no [Om. OU.] but a [the N.] ȝerd oonly, not a scrippe, not [ne GMPXY.] bred, neither [verse 9] money in the [there U.] girdil [girdels U.] , but schoon [schood A sec. m. [verse 10] And he seide to hem, Whidir [Where O.] euere ȝee schulen entre in to an hous, dwelle ȝe there, till ȝe gon out thennis [fro thennis UV.] . [verse 11] And who [whiche UV.] euere `schulen not resseyue [res|seyuen not U pr. m. V. resseyuen ȝou not U sec. m.] , ne [neither UV.] heere ȝou, ȝe goynge out fro thennes shake [shakith MOPQSTW sec. m. XY.] awey the powdre [dust UV.] fro [of U.] ȝoure feet, in to witnessinge to hem. [verse 12] And thei goynge out [out fro thens W pr. m.] , prechiden, that men schulden do pe|naunce. [verse 13] And thei castiden [kestyn GQSXY.] out many fendis, and anoyntiden with oyle manye syke men, and thei weren heelid. [verse 14] And kyng Eroude herde, forsothe [for UV.] his name

was maad opyn, and `he seide [they seiden UV.] , For Johne Baptist hath [is O.] risun aȝen fro deed men, and therfore vertues worchen [ben wrouȝt Q sup. ras.] in hym. [verse 15] So|thely othere [othere men UV.] seiden, For [Om. X.] it is Ely; but othere [othere men UV.] seiden, For it is a prophete, as oon of [of the UX.] prophetis. [verse 16] The [Om. U.] whiche thing herd, Eroude seith [seide UV.] , Whom [This Jon whom UV.] I haue [Om. Q.] bihedid [byheuedid O.] , `John, this [Om. UV.] hath risun [rise aȝen UV.] fro deed men. [verse 17] Forsothe the ilke Eroude sente, and held Joon, and bond him in [Om. O.] to prisoun, for Erodias, the wyf of Philip, his brother; for he hadde weddid hir. [verse 18] Sothly Johne seide to Eroude, It is not leefful to thee, for [Om. UVX.] to haue the wyf of thi brother. [verse 19] Ero|dias forsothe `leide aspies [settide tresoun UV.] to him, and wolde sle him, and miȝte not. [verse 20] Sothly Eroude drede John, witinge him a iust man and hooly, and kepte him. And him herd, he dide many thingis, and `gladly herde hym [herde him gladly U.] . [verse 21] And whanne a co|uenable day hadde [was U.] fallun [bifalle UV.] , Eroude `in his birthe day [Om. UV.] made a soupere [soper of his birthe UV.] to the [Om. UV.] princis, and tribunys, and to the firste, `or gretteste [Om. AX. either grettest men UV.] , of Galilee. [verse 22] And whanne the douȝter of thilke [that X.] Erodias hadde en|trid yn [Om. UV.] , and lepte [daunside UV.] , and pleside to [Om. UV.] Eroude, and also to [Om. UV.] men restynge [sittynge atte the mete UV.] , the kyng seide to the wenche [damy|sele UV.] , Axe thou of me what thou wolt [wole U.] , and I schal ȝyue to thee. [verse 23] And he swoor to hir, For what euere [euere thing UV.] thou schalt axe, I schal ȝyue to thee, thouȝ the half of my kyngdom [rewme UV.] . [verse 24] `The whiche [And U.] , whanne sche hadde gon out, seide [sche seide UV.] to hir modir, What schal I axe? And she seide, The heed [heued GOY.] of John Bap|tist [the Baptist O.] . [verse 25] And whanne she hadde entrid anon with haste to the kyng, she axide, seyinge, I wole that anoon thou ȝyue to me in a dische the heed [heued OG.] of John Baptist. [verse 26] And the kyng was sory [sorowful UV.] for [of N.] the ooth,

and for men sittinge `to gidere [Om. Q.] at mete [the meet AGMNOPQSTXY.] [verse 27] he `wolde not [nolde UV.] hir [make hir Q.] be [Om. Q sec. m. to be S.] maad [Om. Q sec. m.] sory [heuy, or sory Q.] ; but a manquellere sent, he comaundide the heed [heued OY.] of John Baptist [Om. UV.] for [Om. SUX.] to be brouȝt [brouȝt in a dische Q sec. m. UV. brouȝt forth W pr. m.] . [verse 28] And he bihedide [byheueded O.] him in the prison, and brouȝte his heed [heued OY.] in a dische, and ȝaf it to the wenche [damysel UV.] , and the wench [damysel UV.] ȝaf [ȝaf it G.] to hir [the O.] modir. [verse 29] The which thing herd, his disci|plis camen, and token his body, and put|tiden [putten SX.] it in a buriel. [verse 30] And apostlis [the apostlys GQUX. the postlis VY.] com|ynge to gidere to Jhesu, tolden to [Om. G.] hym alle thingis, that [whiche U.] thei hadden don, and tauȝt. [verse 31] And he seith [seide UV.] to hem, Come ȝe `by ȝou selue [by ȝee ȝour selue G. by ȝoure silf MNOQTY. asides half UV.] in to a desert place; reste [and reste UV.] ȝe a litel. Forsoth [For UV.] `there weren manye [many weren UV.] that camen, and wenten aȝen, and thei hadden not space for [Om. K pr. m. SUVX.] to ete. [verse 32] And thei stiȝynge [stiȝeden K. steȝende X.] in to boot [a boot MPUVWXY.] , wenten in to a desert place `by hem selue [asides half UV.] . [verse 33] And thei syȝen hem goynge awey, and manye [many men UV.] knewen, and [and thei UV.] goynge on [out O.] feet fro alle citees, thei [Om. UV.] runnen to gidere thidir, and came bifore hem. [verse 34] And Jhesus goynge out syȝ moche cumpanye, and hadde mercy on [of OXY.] hem, for thei weren as scheepe not hauynge a shep|herde. And he bigan for [Om. NSUVX.] to teche hem manye thingis. [verse 35] And whanne moche our [hour, or forth dayes MPT.] was maad now, his disciplis `camen nyȝ [neiȝeden UV.] , seyinge, This place is desert, and now the [verse 36] our hath passid; leeue [leeue, either delyuere thou UV.] hem, that thei goynge in to the [Om. S.] nexte townes or [and AGMNOPQSTUVWXY.] vilagis, bye to hem metis whiche [that X.] thei schulen ete. [verse 37] And he answerynge seith [seide UV.] to hem, Ȝyue ȝe to [Om. O.] hem for [Om. SX.] to ete. And thei seiden to hym, Goynge bye we loues with [for UV.] two [twey O.] hundrid pens, and we schulen ȝyue to hem for [Om. SX.] to ete. [verse 38] And he seith to hem, Hou many loues han ȝe? Go ȝe, and se [seeth GQSXY. seiȝeth O.] . And whanne thei hadden knowun, thei [Om. UV.]

seien, Fyue, and two fyschis. [verse 39] And he comaundide to hem, that thei schulden make alle men sitte [to sitten SUX.] to mete aftir [bi UV. aftir the W pr. m.] cum|penyes, vpon [on the UV. on X.] greene hey. [verse 40] And thei saten down [to mete UV.] by parties, by hundridis, and fyf|ties. [verse 41] And the fyue looues taken, and two fyschis, he biholdynge in to heuene, bless|ide, and brak loouis [the looues PUV W sec. m.] , and ȝaf [he ȝaue U.] to his dis|ciplis, that thei schulden putte [setten UV.] bifore hem. And he departide two fyschis to [verse 42] alle [alle men UV.] ; and alle [alle men UV.] eeten, and weren fillid [fulfillid AGMNOPQSTWXY.] . [verse 43] And thei token the relyues [relyfe G pr. m. Q.] of broken mete, twelue coffyns full, and of the [Om. P.] fyschis. [verse 44] Sothli thei that eeten, were fyue thousynd [thousondes O.] of men. [verse 45] And anon he constreynede his disciplis for [Om. SUVX.] to stiȝe vp [Om. UV.] in to a boot, that thei schulden passe [go UV.] bifore him ouer the see to Bethsayda, the [Om. UV.] while he lefte the peple. [verse 46] And whanne he hadde left hem, he wente in to an hil, for [Om. SX.] to preie. [verse 47] And whanne [whan and O.] euenyng was [was maad G pr. m.] , the boot was in `the myddil [myddis the MPT. myddis of the UV. the myd X.] see, [verse 48] and he aloone in the lond; and he syȝ hem trauelinge in rowynge; sothli [for U.] the wynd was contrarie to hem. And aboute the fourthe waking of the nyȝt, he wan|drynge [goynge UV.] on [vpon O.] the see cam to hem, and wolde passe hem. [verse 49] And thei, as thei syȝen him wandrynge [goynge UV.] on the see, gessiden [thei gessiden X.] [verse 50] for [Om. SUVX.] to be [se K.] a fantum, and crieden [thei crieden UV.] ; for|soth [for UV.] alle syȝen hym, and thei [Om. UV.] weren disturblid [disturbid SX. troublide UV.] . And anon he spak with hem, and seide to hem, Triste ȝe, I am; nyle ȝe drede. [verse 51] And he `cam vp [stiȝede UV.] `to hem [Om. Y sec. m.] in to [Om. U.] the [a U.] boot, and the wynd ceesside. And thei more wondriden with ynne hem [hem silf UV.] ; [verse 52] for [forsothe UV.] thei vndirstoden not of the looues; sothli [for UV.] her herte was blyndid. [verse 53] And whanne thei hadden passid ouer the see, thei camen in to the lond of Genazareth, and setten [settiden UV.] to londe. [verse 54] And whanne thei hadden [weren UV.] gon out of the boot, anon thei

knewen him. [verse 55] And thei rennynge thurȝ [in O. thoruȝ out U.] al that [the MQTY.] cuntree [citee K.] , bigunnen to [for to O.] bere `aboute in beddis hem [hem aboute in beddis PXY.] that hadden hem [Om. UV. eny XY.] yuele, where thei herden him be [to be MUVY.] . [verse 56] And whidur euere he [that he O.] entride yn to vilagis and townes, or [either UV.] in to citees, thei puttiden [putten SX.] syke men in stretis, and [and thei UV.] preieden him, that thei schul|den touche either [other M. namely UV. or X.] the hem of his cloth; and how manye euere touchiden him, weren maad saf.
