[verse 1] Forsothe pask and the feeste of therf looues `withouȝten sourdowȝ [Om. MOPUVX.] was aftir `the secunde day [two dayes U pr. m. X. twey daies V.] . And the hiȝeste prestis and scribis souȝten, hou thei schulden holde him [Crist MP.] with gile, and sle [slee him PX.] . [verse 2] Sothli thei seiden, Not in the feeste day, lest per|auenture noyse were maad in the peple. [verse 3] And whanne he was at Betanye, in the hous of Symount leprous, and restid [satte atte the mete UV.] , a womman comynge [cam NV. come U.] , hauynge a box of [of alabaustre of UV.] precious oynement spikanard; and the box [box of alabaustre UV.] brokun, helde [sche held it O. she helde MP. sche schedde out UV.] out on [vpon O.] his heed [heued OY.] . [verse 4] Forsoth `ther weren summe [summe weren UV.] beringe vn|worthily, `or heuyli [Om. UVX.] , with ynne [seiynge withinne UV.] hem silf, `and seyinge [Om. UVX.] , Wherto is [Om. Q pr. m.] this loss of oynement maad? [verse 5] For this oynement myȝte haue [Om. V.] be sold more [for more U.] than for [Om. U.] thre hundrid pens, and be ȝouun to pore

men. And thei groyneden `in to [aȝens UV.] hir. [verse 6] Sothli [forsothe UV.] Jhesus seide, Suffre [Suffre ȝe V W sec. m. Y. Suffreth S.] hir; what be ȝe heuy to hir? she hath wrouȝt good [a good UV.] work in [into OQ.] me. [verse 7] For `euer more [Om. UV.] ȝe schulen [Om. UV.] haue [han euere UV.] pore men with ȝou, and whanne ȝe schulen [Om. UV.] wolle, ȝe mown do wel to hem; forsoth ȝe schulen not euermore [euere UV.] haue me. [verse 8] She dide [saide O.] that [that thing UV.] that [Om. Q.] she hadde; sche bifore cam for [Om. SUV.] to anoynte my body into buriynge. [verse 9] Treuli I seie to ȝou, where euere this gospel schal be prechid in al the world, and [and this thing UV.] that this womman [Om. X.] hath done, schal be told in to mynde of hir. [verse 10] And Judas Scarioth, oon of the [Om. G pr. m.] twelue, wente to the [Om. M.] hiȝeste prestis, that he schulde bitray him [Jhesu UV.] to hem. [verse 11] The [Om. UV.] whiche heerynge ioyeden, and bihiȝten hem to ȝyue `him money [money Q pr. m. money to him Q sec. m. UV.] . And he souȝte how he schulde bitraye him [Jhesu UV.] couenably. [verse 12] And the [in the UV.] firste day of therue loues, whenne `pask was offrid [thei offriden paske UV.] , disciplis [his disci|ples P. the disciplis UV.] seyn to him, Whidir [Wher O.] wolt thou we go, and make redy to thee, that thou ete pask? [verse 13] And he sendith tweyne [two MPX.] of his disciplis, and seith to hem, Go ȝe in to the citee, and a man beringe a galoun of watir schal `renne to ȝou [come aȝens ȝou UV.] , `or come aȝens ȝou [Om. UVX.] ; suwe ȝe him. [verse 14] And [Om. K.] whidir euere he schal entre, seye ȝe [Om. O.] to the lord of the hous, For the maister seith, Wher is my fulfilling [fillyng UV.] , `or etyng place [of etyng place K. Om. UV.] , where I schal ete pask with my disciplis? [verse 15] And he schal shewe to ȝou a greet souping place strewid, and there make ȝe redy to vs. [verse 16] And his disciplis wenten forth, and [and thei UV.] camen in to the citee, and founde as he hadde [Om. O.] seid to hem; and thei maden redy pask. [verse 17] Sothli [Forsothe UV.] euen [euentide UV.] maad, he cam with twelue. [verse 18] And hem sittinge at the mete, and etinge, Jhesus seith [seide UV.] , Treuli I seie to ȝou, for oon of ȝou that etith with me, schal bitraye me. [verse 19] And

thei bigunnen for [Om. SUVX.] to be sori [sorowful UV.] , and `to seie [seide UV.] , ech by hym silf, Whether [Wher MOPV.] I? [verse 20] The [Om. UV.] which seith [seie to him UV.] to hem, Oon of twelue [the twelue MOPQTUVY.] that puttith yn the hond with me in the [Om. N.] plater. [verse 21] And sothli mannis sone goth, as it is writun of him; forsoth [but UV.] wo to that man, bi whom `mannis sone [the sone of man UV.] schal be bi|trayd. It were good to him, if `that ilke [the ilke MP. thilke UV. that X.] man hadde not be borun. [verse 22] And hem [thei U.] etinge, Jhesus took bred, and blessinge [blissed O.] brak [brak it Q.] , and ȝaf to [Om. AGNOQSTXY.] hem, and seith [seide UV.] , Take ȝe [Om. V.] ; this is my body. [verse 23] And the cuppe takun, he doynge gracis [thankyngis UV.] ȝaf to hem, and alle drunkun therof. [verse 24] And he seith [seide UV.] to hem, This is my blood of the newe testa|ment, the [Om. UV.] which schal be shedd out for manye [manye men UV.] . [verse 25] Treuly I seie to ȝou, for now I schal not drynke of this fruit of vyne, til in to that [the O.] daye whanne I schal drynke it newe in the rewme of God. [verse 26] And the ympne, `or heriynge [Om. OX. either preisynge of God UV.] , seid, thei wenten out in to the hil of Olyues. [verse 27] And Jhesus seith [seide UV.] to hem, Alle ȝe schulen be sclaundrid in me in this niȝt; for it is writun, I schal smyte the schepherde, and the scheep of the floc schulen be disparplid [scatered UV.] . [verse 28] But aftir that I schal ryse aȝen, I schal go bifore ȝou in to Galilee. [verse 29] Forsoth Petre seith [seide UV.] to him, `And if [Thouȝ UV.] alle schulen be sclaundrid, but not I. [verse 30] And Jhesus seith [seide U.] to him, Treuly I seie to thee, for thou [Om. UV.] to day bifore [bifore that PUVY. biforn that X.] the cok [cok crowe U pr. v. cok schal ȝeue voice UV.] in [twies in UV.] this nyȝt `twyes ȝyue vois [Om. UV.] , thries thou `ert to [schalt UV.] denye me. [verse 31] And he spak more, `And if [Thouȝ UV.] it bihoue [byhoueth K pr. m. OQ. schal bihoue UV.] me to dye to gidere with thee, I schal not denye thee. Sothli [Forsothe UV.] and [Om. MPWXY.] lyk manere alle [and alle PW sec. m. Y.] seiden [seiden in lyk manere UV.] . [verse 32] And thei camen in to a place [felde UV.] , to whom [which UV.] the name [place K. name was U.] Gethsamany. And he seith to his disciplis, Sitte ȝe here, the [Om. UV.] while I preie. [verse 33] And he takith [took UV.] Petre and James and John

with him, and bigan for [Om. SX.] to drede, and to heuye [Om. K. to be heuy Q sec. m. V.] . [verse 34] And he seith [seide UV.] to hem, My soule is sorwful til [Om. N.] to [Om. T.] the [Om. S.] deeth; susteyne [abide UV.] ȝe, `or abide ȝe [Om. OUVX. or abideth S.] , here, and preie [wake NUV.] ȝe `with me [Om. UV.] . [verse 35] And whanne he hadde gon forth a litel, he felde [fel W pr. m. XY.] down on the erthe, and preiede, `that, if [if that U.] it myȝte be, the our schulde passe fro him. [verse 36] And he seide, Fadir [Abba, fadir NUV.] , alle thingis ben possible to thee, turne fro me this cuppe; but not that I wole, but `that that [that at O hic et alibi. that MPUVW sec. m.] thou [thou wolte W pr. m.] . [verse 37] And he cam, and fond hem slepynge. And he seith [seide UV.] to Petre, Symount, slepist thou? myȝtist thou not wake with me oon our? [verse 38] Wake ȝe, and `preie ȝe [preȝeth X.] , that ȝe entre not `in to [in G pr. m.] temptacioun; forsothe the spirit is redy, but the fleisch syk [is sike OUV.] . [verse 39] And eftsoone [efte UV.] he goynge preiede, the same word seyinge. [verse 40] And he turnyd aȝen eftsoone [efte UV.] , fond hem slepinge; sothli her yȝen were greuyd. And thei knewen [wisten SUV.] not, what thei schulden answere to him. [verse 41] And he cam the thridde tyme, and seith [sayde OUV.] to hem, Slepe ȝe nowe, and `reste ȝe [restith X.] ; sothli [Om. UV.] it sufficith. The our cometh; loo! mannis sone schal be bi|trayed in to hondis [the hondes UV.] of `synful men [synneres UV.] . [verse 42] Ryse ȝe, go we; loo! he that schal bytraye me is nyȝ. [verse 43] And, ȝit him [it U.] spekinge, Judas Scarioth, oon of the [Om. N.] twelue, cam, and with him moche cumpeny with swerdis and staues [with staues O.] , sent fro the hiȝeste prestis, and scribis, and `fro the [Om. UV.] eldere men. [verse 44] For|sothe the [his N.] traitour hadde ȝouun to hem a tokene [signe UV.] , seyinge, Whom euere I schal kisse, he it is; holde ȝe him, and lede ȝe warly, `or queyntely [Om. OQUVX.] . [verse 45] And whanne he cam [hadde come UV.] , anon he cominge [neiȝynge UV.] to him [Jhesu UV.] , seith [seide UV.] , Maistir; and he kisside him. [verse 48] And Jhesus an|sweringe seith [seide UV.] to hem, As to a thef ȝe han gon out with swerdis and staues, for [Om. SUVX.] to take me? [verse 49] Forsoth [Om. UV.] day by day I was at ȝou, techinge in the temple, and ȝe heelden not me; but that the scripturis be fulfillid [fillid UV.] . [verse 50] Thanne `him forsakun [Om. UV.] , alle his disciplis fledden [forsakynge him fledden UV.] . [verse 51] Sothli sum ȝong man, clothid [clad SX.] with `lynnen cloth [sendel, or lynnen clooth MP.] on the bare, suede him; and thei heelden him. [verse 52] And the lynnen cloth forsakun, he nakid fleiȝ [fledde MU.] awey fro hem. [verse 53] And thei ledden Jhesu to the hiȝeste prest. And all camen to gidere `in to [in K.] oon, the prestis and the [Om. GMPQTVWXY.] scribis and eldere men. [verse 54] Forsoth Petre suede him afer til [til to KV.] with ynne `in to [in K.] the halle of the hiȝeste prest. And he sat with the mynystris, and warmyde him at the fier. [verse 55] Forsothe the hiȝeste prestis, and al the [her K.] counceil, souȝten witnessinge aȝens Jhesu [him U.] , that thei schulen ȝyue [take U. bitake V.] him to deeth; nether thei founden. [verse 56] Sothli [Forsothe UV.] manye seiden fals witnessinge aȝens him, and the witnessingis weren not couenable. [verse 57] And summe risynge souȝten [baren UV.] fals witnessing [verse 58] aȝens hym, seyinge [and seiden UV.] , For we `han herd [herden UV.] him seiynge [seye Q sec. m.] , I schal vndo this temple maad with hondis, and aftir [by UV.] the thridde day I schal bilde a nother not maad with hondis. [verse 59] And the witnessing of hem was not couenable. [verse 60] Forsothe [And UV.] the hiȝeste prest rysinge vp in to the myddel [myddis UV.] , axide him [Jhesu U.] , seyinge [and seide UV.] , Answerist thou `not ony [no O.] thing to tho thingis that ben put to [aȝens UV.] thee of these [these men UV.] ? [verse 61] Sothli he was stille, and no thing answeride. Eftsoone [Eft UV.] the hiȝest prest axide him, and seide to him, Ert thou Crist, the sone of blessid God? [verse 62] Sothli [Forsothe UV.] Jhesus seide to him, I am; and ȝe schulen

UV.] whiche alle condempneden him for [Om. SUVX.] to be gilty of deeth. [verse 65] And summe bigunnen for [Om. SUVX.] to bispitte [spete on UV.] him, and to [for to O.] hide his yȝen [face NUV.] , and smyte him [Om. O.] with boffatis [strokis, or buffatis A.] , and seie to him, Prophecie thou. And the mynystris beeten him with strokis [buffetis MPUVW.] , `or boffatis [Om. AMOPQUVWX.] . [verse 66] And whanne Petre was in the halle by|nethen, oon of the hand maydens [hand mayden K.] of the hiȝest prest cam. [verse 67] And whanne sche hadde seyn Petre warmynge him, sche bihold|inge him seith [seide UV.] , And thou wast [were APSUVX. was KM.] with Jhesu of Nazareth. [verse 68] And he denyede, seyinge, Nethir I woot, nether I haue knowun [knowe MUV.] , what thou seist. And he wente forth [out with out forth UV.] bifore the halle; and anon the cok song [crewe UV.] . [verse 69] `Eftsone forsothe [Forsothe efte UV.] whanne `a no|ther [an UV.] `hand mayde [hand mayden AGNOSQTWXY.] hadde seyn him, she bigan for [Om. SUVX.] to seie to men stondinge aboute, For this [he this O.] is of hem. [verse 70] And he eft|sone [efte UV.] denyede. And aftir a litil, eftsoone [efte UV.] thei that `stooden nyȝ [weren present UV.] , seiden to Petre, Verily thou ert of hem, forwhi [for UV.] and [also UV.] thou ert of Galilee. [verse 71] Sothli [Forsothe UV.] he bigan for [Om. SUVX.] to curse and swere [to swere UV.] , For I knowe not this man, whom ȝe seyn. [verse 72] And anon eftsoones [efte UV. eftsone X.] the cok song [crew MUV.] . And Petre bithouȝte on [of O.] the werd that [which UV.] Jhesus hadde seid to him, Bifore [Bifore that UV.] the cok synge [songe O. crowe UV.] twyes, thries [Om. UV.] thou schalt denye me [me thries UV.] . And he bigan for [Om. SUVX.] to wepe. [verse 1] And anon `the morwe maad [in the morowtide UV.] , the hiȝeste prestis, makinge counceil with the eldere men, and scribis, and al the counceil, byndinge Jhesu, ledden, and bitooken to Pilat.
