CAP. XI.

[verse 1] And whanne Jhesus `cam nyȝ [neiȝede UV.] to Jeru|salem and to Betanye, to [atte UV.] the mount of [Om. UV.] Olyuete, he sendith [sente MNPXY.] two [tweyne GUV. twey O.] of his disciplis, [verse 2] and seith to hem, Go ȝe in to the castel that [which UV.] is aȝens ȝou; and anon ȝe entrynge in [Om. KV.] thidur schulen fynde a colt tyed, on [vpon O.] the [Om. UV.] which `non of men [no man N.] sat ȝit; vn|bynde [vntye UV.] ȝe, and bryng [brynge ȝe NUV. bringeth SX.] him. [verse 3] And if ony man `schal seie [seith UV.] ony thing to [aȝens Q.] ȝou [ȝou, What do ȝe Q sec. m.] , seie ȝe, that [for UV.] he is nedeful to the Lord, and anon he schal leeue him hidur. [verse 4] And thei go|ynge forth, founden a colt bounden [tyed U.] by|fore the ȝate with outeforth, in the meet|ing of tweye [two MPX et Y passim.] weyes; and thei vnbounden [vntyen UV.] him. [verse 5] And summe of men stondinge there seiden to hem, What don ȝe, vnbyndinge [vntyinge UV.] the colt? [verse 6] `And thei [Which UV.] seiden to hem, as Jhesus comaundide [hadde comaundide UV.] to [Om. AGMNPQSTUWX.] hem; and thei leften [leften to UV.] hem. [verse 7] And thei brouȝten the colt to Jhesu, and thei [Om. Q.] puttiden [putten SUVX.] to [on UV.] him her clothis, and Jhesus sat vpon [on SUVX.] him [hem I.] . [verse 8] For|sothe manye [many men UV.] strewiden her clothis in the weye, sotheli othere men kittiden [kitten X.] bowis, `or braunchis [Om. MOPQUVXY.] , fro [of UV.] trees, and strewiden in the weye. [verse 9] And thei that wenten bi|fore, and that sueden, cryeden, seyinge, [verse 10] Osanna, blessid is he that cometh in the [Om. PXY.] name of the Lord; blessid the [that O. is the UV.] kyngdom [rewme UV.]

`that cometh [Om. UV.] of oure fadir Dauith [Dauith that cometh UV.] ; O|sanna in hiȝtees [heiȝthis MP. hiȝe thingis UV.] . [verse 11] And he entride in to Jerusalem, in to the temple; and alle thingis [men UV.] seyn aboute, whanne `the our was now euenyng [now the euen|tyde houre was O. our was now euenyng XY pr. m.] , he wente [wente out G sec. m. UV.] in to Betanye, with twelue. [verse 12] And another day, whanne he wente out of [fro G sec. m. O.] Betanye, he hungride. [verse 13] And whanne he hadde seyn a [the U.] fyge tree afer hauynge leeuys, he cam, if happily he schulde fynde ony thing therynne; and whanne he cam [hadde come U.] to it [Om. Y.] , he fond no thing, out taken leeuys; for it was no [not GMNOTUVW sec. m. X.] tyme of fygis. [verse 14] And Jhesus answeringe seide to it, Now no more with outen ende ony man ete fruyt of thee. And his disciples [verse 15] herden; and thei camen [comen GMPW.] to Jerusalem. And whanne he hadde entrid in to the temple, he bigan for [Om. SUVX.] to caste out [Om. KX.] men sellinge and biggynge [biynge AGMNOPQTUVWY. biende SX.] in the temple; and he turnyde vpsodoun the boordis of chaungeris, and the chaieris of men sell|inge [verse 16] culueris; and he suffride not, that ony man schulde bere a vessel thurȝ [thorow out N.] the temple. [verse 17] And he tauȝte hem, seyinge [and seide UV.] , Wher [Whether X passim.] it is not writun, For myn hous schal be clepid the [an OUV.] hous of preiynge [prayere OUV.] to alle folkis? forsoth ȝe han maad it a den of theues. [verse 18] The [Om. UV.] which thing herd, the princes of prestis and scribis [the scribis UV.] souȝten hou thei schulde leese him; forsoth thei dreden hym, for al the cumpanye `of pe|ple [Om. UV.] wondride on his teching. [verse 19] And whanne euenyng [euentide UV. the euenyng X.] was maad, he wente out of the citee. [verse 20] And whanne thei pass|iden eerly, thei syȝen the fige tree maad drye fro the rootis. [verse 21] And Petre hauynge mynde, seide to him, Maistir, lo! the fyge tree, whom [which UV.] thou cursedist, hath dryed vp. [verse 22] And Jhesus answeringe seith [seide UV.] to him [hem UV.] , [verse 23] Haue ȝe the feith of God; treuli I seie to ȝou, that [for U.] who euere seith [that saith O.] to this hil,

Take [Be thou taken NUV.] , and sende [be thou sent NUV. send thee X.] in to the see; and dout|ith not in his herte, but bileueth, for what euere [euer thing UV.] he `schal seye [seith UV.] , `be it [schal be UV.] maad, it schal be maad [don UV.] to him. [verse 24] Therfore I seie to ȝou, alle thingis `what euere thingis [whiche euere UV.] ȝe prei|ynge schulen [Om. UV.] axe, bileue ȝe that [for UV.] ȝe schulen take, and thei [tho UV.] schulen come to ȝou. [verse 25] And whanne ȝe schulen stonde for [Om. SUVX.] to preie, forȝyue ȝe, if ȝe han ony thing aȝens ony man, that and [also UV.] ȝoure fadir that [which UV.] is in heuenes, forȝyue to ȝou ȝoure synnes. [verse 26] That [For UV.] if ȝe `schulen not forȝyue [forȝeuen not UV.] , neither ȝoure fadir that [which UV.] is in heuenes, schal for|ȝyue ȝou [to ȝou MUVXY.] ȝoure synnes [Om. O.] . [verse 27] And eftsoone [efte U.] thei camen [comen GM et W passim. Y.] to Jerusalem. And whanne [Om. U.] he walkide in to [Om. UV.] the temple, the hiȝeste prestis, and scribis, and eldere men `camen [verse 28] niȝ [comen niȝ MW. neiȝen UV.] to him, and seien to him, In what power doist thou thes thingis? or [either UV.] who ȝaf to thee this power, that `thou do [don to O.] thes thingis? [verse 29] Forsothe Jhesus answeringe seith to hem, And I schal axe ȝou [of ȝou N.] o word, and answere ȝe to me, and I schal [Om. O.] seie to ȝou, in what power I do thes thingis. [verse 30] Whether was `the baptym of John [Jones bapteme UV.] of heuene, or [either UV.] of men? answere ȝe to me. [verse 31] And thei thouȝten `with inne [with K.] hem selue, seiynge, If we schulen seie of heuene, he schal seie to vs, Whi therfore bileuen [bileueden UV.] ȝe [verse 32] not to him; if we schulen seie of men, we dreden the peple; for [forsothe UV.] alle men had|den John, for he was verily a prophete. [verse 33] And thei answeringe seyen [seiden U.] to Jhesu, We witen neuere [not UV.] . And Jhesu answeringe seith to hem, Neither I seie to ȝou, in what power I do thes thingis.
