[verse 1] And Jhesus risynge vp fro thennis, cam in to the endis [coostis V.] of Jude ouer [biȝonde UV.] Jordan; and eftsoones [efte UV.] the cumpanyes [company OX.] `of peple [Om. UV.] camen [cam X.] `to gidere [Om. UV.] to him, and as he was wont, eftsoone [efte UV.] he tauȝte hem. [verse 2] And Pharisees `comynge nyȝ [neiȝynge UV.] , axiden him [him, temptynge hym UV.] , If [Whether U.] it be [is V.] leefful to a man for [Om. OQSTUVX.] to leeue [forsake UV.] , `or forsake [Om. AOUX. or to forsake N.] , his wyf? `temptinge him [Om. UV.] . [verse 3] And he answeringe seith [seide UV.] to hem, What co|maundide Moyses to ȝou? [verse 4] The [Om. UVX.] whiche seiden, Moyses suffride to [for to O.] write a libel of forsakinge, and to forsake. [verse 5] To whom [whiche UV.] Jhesus answeringe seith [seide UV.] , To the hard|nesse of ȝoure herte Moyses [he UV.] wroot to ȝou this precept [comaundement UV.] . [verse 6] Forsothe fro [at UV.] the bigyn|nyng of creature God made hem male [verse 7] and female; and he seide, For this thing a man schal leeue [forsake UV.] fadir [his fadir V.] and modir, and [verse 8] schal clefe to his wif, and thei schulen be tweyne [two MPXY.] in o fleisch. And so now thei ben not tweyne [two MPXY.] , but o fleisch. [verse 9] Therfore [Therfor a man departe not UV.] that thing that [which UV.] God ioynede [hath ioynede UV.] to gidere, `no man departe [Om. UV.] . [verse 10] And eftsoone [efte UV.] in the hows his disciplis axiden him of the same thing. [verse 11] And he seith [seide UV.] to hem, Who euere `schal leeue [forsaketh UV.] his wyf, and wedde [weddeth UV.] another, he doth auoutrie vpon [on UVX.] hir. [verse 12] And if the wyf `schal leeue [forsake UV.] hir hosebonde, and be [is UV.] weddid to another, she doth auoutrie. [verse 13] And thei offriden to him litle children, that he schulde touche hem; sotheli disciplis [the disciplis UV.] thret|enyden [threteden S. manassiden UV. thratten X.] to [Om. UV.] men offringe. [verse 14] Whom [Which UV.] whanne Jhesus hadde seyn, he baar `heuye, or vn|worthili [vnworthili A. heuyly, or vnworthili Q. vnwor|thili, or heueli UV. heuye X.] , and seith [seide UV.] to hem, Suffre ȝe

litle children for [Om. MSUV sec. m. X.] to come to me, and for|bede ȝe hem not, forsoth [for UV.] of [Om. UV.] suche `is the kyngdom of God [the rewme of God is of UV.] . [verse 15] Treuli I seie to ȝou, who euere `schal not receyue [resseyueth not UV.] the kyng|dom [rewme UV.] of God as this [a MUVY.] litle child, he schal not entre in to it. [verse 16] And he biclippinge hem, and puttinge hondis vpon [on UVX.] hem, blesside hem. [verse 17] And whanne Jhesus [he UV.] was gon out in the weye, o [a MUVX.] man rennynge bifore, the [and the O.] kne bowid [bowid bifore him UV.] , preiede him, sei|ynge [and seide UV.] , Goode maistir, what schal I do, that I receyue euerlastinge lyf? [verse 18] Forsothe Jhesus seide to him, What seist thou me good? `No man [Noon UV.] good [is good UV.] , no [Om. KT.] but `God aloone [oo God UV.] . [verse 19] `Thou hast knowen [Hast thou knowe V.] the co|maundementis, do thou non auoutrie, sle not, stele not, seie not [no U.] fals witnessinge, do no fraude, worschipe thi fadir and mo|dir [thi modir UX.] . [verse 20] And he answeringe seith [seide UV.] to him [Crist UV.] , Maistir, I haue kept alle these thingis fro my ȝouthe [ȝongthe UV.] . [verse 21] Sothli Jhesus `biheld him, and [byholdynge him O.] louyde hym; and he [Om. UV.] seide to him, O thing failith to thee; go thou [Om. MP.] , selle thou [Om. MP.] what euere thingis thou [that thou K.] hast, and ȝyue [ȝeue thou UV.] to pore men, and thou schalt haue tresour in heuene; and come [come thou UV.] , sue [and swe O.] thou me. [verse 22] The [Om. UV.] which maad sorwful in the word, wente awey mornynge, forsoth [for UV.] he was hauynge many possesciouns. [verse 23] And Jhesus biholdinge aboute, seith [seide UV.] to his disciplis, How hard thei [schulen thei UV.] that han money [richessis UV.] schulen [Om. UV.] entre in to the kyngdom [rewme UV.] of God. [verse 24] Forsothe the disciplis weren stoneyed [astoneyed PUV.] in his wordis. And Jhesus eftsoone [efte UV.] an|sweringe seith [seide UV.] to hem, Ȝe [Om. UV.] litle sones, how hard thing [Om. UV.] `it is [is it MUV.] , men [that men UV.] tristynge in richessis [richesse MP.] for [Om. SUVX.] to entre in to the kyngdom [rewme UV.] of God. [verse 25] It is liȝter [liȝtlier K. esier UV.] , `or esyer [Om. QUVXY.] , a [that a UV.] camel for [Om. QSUVXY.] to [Om. UV.] passe thorw `a nedlis [an edlis GKMP.] yȝe, than [than that UV.] a riche man for [Om. SUVX.] to [Om. UV.] entre in to the kyngdom [rewme UV.]

UV.] , Anentis men it is impos|sible, but not anemptis God; for alle thingis ben possible anemptis God. [verse 28] And [Om. XY.] aftirward [Om. UV.] Petre bigan for [Om. SUVXY.] to seye to him, Loo! we han left alle thingis, and han sued thee. [verse 29] Jhesus answeringe seith [seide UV.] , Treuli I seie to ȝou, `ther is no man [no man is UV.] that schal leeue [forsake UV.] hous, or bretheren, or sistris [sistren U.] , or fadir, or modir, or sones, or feeldis for me [verse 30] and for the gospel, the [Om. UV.] which schal not taken an hundridfold so moche now in this tyme, housis, and bretheren, and [Om. W pr. m.] sistris [sisteren OU.] , and modris, and sones, and feldis, with per|secuciouns, and in [in to O.] the world to comynge [comen SX.] euerlasting lyf. [verse 31] Forsoth many schulen be, the firste the laste, and the laste the firste. [verse 32] Forsothe thei weren in the weye stiȝynge to Jerusalem; and Jhesus wente bifore hem, and thei wondriden, and [and thei OUV.] folowinge [suynge UV.] dredden. And eftsoone [efte UV.] Jhe|sus [he UV.] takinge to [Om. NUV.] twelue, bygan to seye to hem, what thingis weren to come [comynge UV.] to him. [verse 33] For lo! we stiȝen to Jerusalem, and mannus sone schal be bitrayed to the [Om. MPX.] princes of prestis, and to scribis [the scribes SUV.] , and to eldere [the eelder AOSUVY.] men; and thei schulen dampne him by deeth, and thei schulen bytake him to hethene men. [verse 34] And thei schulen scorne him, and byspeete [thei schulen bispete UV.] him, and beete [thei schulen beete UV.] him; and thei schulen sle him, and in the thridde day he schal ryse aȝen. [verse 35] And James and Jon, `Zebedees sones [the sones of Zebedee UV.] , `camen nyȝ [neiȝen UV.] to him, seyinge [and seyn UV.] , Maistir, we wolen, that what euere [euere thing UV.] we schulen [Om. S.] axe, thou do to vs. [verse 36] And he seide to hem, What wolen ȝe that I do to ȝou? glorie. [verse 38] Forsothe Jhesus `seith to hem [seide AGNOS. seide to hem UVW.] , Ȝe witen not what ȝe schulen axe; mown ȝe drynke the cuppe, the [Om. NQTUVW sec. m. XY.] which I `am to [Om. UV.] drynke, or [either UV.] be waischun [bap|tised UV.] with [Om. S. in V.] the bap|tym, in which I am baptisid? [verse 39] And thei seiden to him, We mown. Sothli Jhesus seith [seide V.] to hem, Treuli ȝe schulen drynke the cuppe that [which UV.] I drynke, and ȝe schulen be waischun [baptised UV.] with [in UV.] the baptym, in which [verse 40] I am baptisid; sothli [forsothe UV.] for [Om. SUVX.] to sitte at my riȝthalf or lefthalf is [it is UVX.] not myn to ȝyue to [Om. NSX.] ȝou, but to which [whom MQPSXY.] it is ordeyned [maad redy UV.] . [verse 41] And the ten heeringe hadden [bigunnen to haue UV.] endignacioun [dedeyne UV.] of James and John. [verse 42] Sothli Jhesus clepinge hem, seith [seide UV.] to hem, Ȝe witen, that [for UV.] thei that semen [ben seyn UVXY.] , or ben seyn [Om. UVXY.] , to haue prince|hed [princehod, or ben lordis O.] on [of Y.] folkis, lordschipen [ben lordis UV.] , `or ben lordis [Om. MOPQTUVXY.] , of hem, and the princes of hem han power of hem. [verse 43] Forsoth it is not so in ȝou, but who euere schal [Om. UV.] wolle be [to be N.] maad more [the gretter UV.] , [verse 44] schal be ȝoure mynystre, and who euere schal [Om. UV.] wolle be [to be MN. be maad Q sup. ras.] the [Om. MOQTY pr. m.] firste in ȝou, schal be seruaunt of alle. [verse 45] Forwhi and mannis sone cam not, that `it schulde be mynys|trid [me schulde serue UV.] to him, but that he schulde mynys|tre [serue UV.] , and ȝyue his soule [lyf UV.] , `or lyf [Om. MOPQUVXY pr. m.] , re|dempcioun, or aȝen biyng [redempcioun OUV. aȝenbiynge MPQXY pr. m. aȝeinbyinge, or redempcioun T.] , for manye. [verse 46] And thei camen [comen MVW.] to Jerico; and him go|ynge forth [out UV.] fro Jerico, and his disciplis, and a [Om. UV.] ful moche cumpany `of peple [Om. UV.] , the sone of Tymey, Barthymeus, blynd, saat bisydis the weye beggynge. [verse 47] `The which [And UV.] whanne he hadde herd, for it is [was U.] Jhesus of Nazareth, bigan [he gan O. he bigan UV.] to crie, and seye, Jhesu, the sone of Dauith, haue mercy on [of XY.] me. [verse 48] And manye thretnyden [threteden SY. thratten X.] hym, that he schulde be stille; and he criede moche more [more, seiynge UV.] , Jhesu, the sone of Dauith, haue mercy on [of OXY.] me. [verse 49] And Jhesu stondinge comaundide hym for [Om. SUVX.] to be clepid; and

thei clepiden [clepen UV.] the blynde man, seiynge to him, Be thou `of betere [betere of K.] herte, ryse vp [thou UV.] , he clepith thee. [verse 50] `The which [And UV.] , his cloth cast away, `sturtinge cam [he cam stertynge out UV.] to him. [verse 51] And Jhesus answeringe seide [seith Y.] to him, What wolt thou I schal [Om. PXY.] do to thee? The [Forsothe the UV.] blynde man seide to him, Maistir, that I se. [verse 52] Sothli Jhesus seide to him, Go thou [Om. MP.] , thi feith hath maad thee saaf. And anon he syȝ, and suede him in the weye.
