[verse 1] And it is maad in the seuenthe ȝeer, in the fifthe moneth, in the tenthe dai of the moneth, men of the eldris of Israel camen for to axe the Lord, and saten be|fore me. [verse 2] And the word of the Lord is [verse 3] maad to me, seiynge, Sone of man, speke thou to the eldre men of Israel; and thou shalt seie to hem, Thes thingis seith the
Lord God, Whether ȝe camen for to axe me? Y lyue, for Y shal not answere to ȝou, seith the Lord God. Sone of man [verse 4] if thou demest hem, if thou demist, shew thou to hem the abomynaciouns of her fadris. [verse 5] And thou shalt seie to hem, Thes thingis seith the Lord, In the dai in which Y cheese Israel, and reiside myn hoond for the kynrede, or generaciouns [generacioun GH.] , of Jacobs hows, and aperide to hem in the loond of Egipt, and reiside myn hoond for hem, seiynge, Y the Lord ȝoure [verse 6] God, in that dai Y reiside myn hoond for hem, that Y shulde lede hem out of the loond of Egipt, in to the loond which Y hadde purueiede to hem, flowynge with mylk and hony, whiche is noble amonge alle loondis. [verse 7] And Y seide to hem, Eche man caste awey the offensiouns of his eyen, and in the ydols of Egipt nyl [yuel GH.] ȝe be defoulid; I the Lord ȝour God. [verse 8] And thei wraththiden me, and thei wolden not here me; eche man castide not awey the abomynaciouns of his eyen, nether for|soke the ydols of Egipt. And Y seide, that Y shulde sheede [caste G pr. m. H.] out myn indigna|cioun vpon [on GH.] hem, and shulde fulfille my wraththe in hem, in the mydil of the loond of Egipt. [verse 9] And Y dide for my name, that it were not defoulid before heithen men, in whos mydil thei weren, and among whom I aperide to hem, that I shulde lede out [Om. A.] hem fro the lond of Egipt. [verse 10] Therfor Y castide out hem fro the lond of Egipt, and Y ledde out in to [verse 11] desert, and ȝaf to hem myn heestis, and Y shewide to hem my domys, whiche a man shulde [shal GH.] doo, and lyue in hem. [verse 12] More ouere and I ȝaue to hem my sabotis, that it were a signe bitwixe [bytwene H.] me and hem, and thei shulden wite, for I the Lord halewynge hem. [verse 13] And the hous of Israel wraththide me in deseert; in my pre|ceptis thei walkiden not, and thei cast|iden awey my domys, whom a man do|ynge
shal lyue in hem; and thei defoul|iden greetli my sabotis. Therfor I seide, that I shulde shede out my woodnes vp|on [on GH.] hem in deseert, and destruye hem; [verse 14] and Y dide for my name, lest I were defoulid before heithen men, of whom Y castide hem out in the siȝte of hem. [verse 15] Therfor Y reiside myn hoond vpon [on GH.] hem in deseert, that Y ledde hem not in to the loond which Y ȝaue to hem, flowynge with mylk and hony, the best of alle loondis. [verse 16] For thei castiden awei my domys, and thei walkiden not in myn heestis, and thei defouleden my sabotis; forsothe the herte [hertis G pr. m. H.] of hem wente after idolis. [verse 17] And myn eye [eeȝen GH.] sparide vpon [on G pr. m. H.] hem, that I shulde not slee hem, nether Y waastide hem in deseert. [verse 18] Forsothe Y seide to the sones of hem in wildirnes, In the preceptis of ȝoure fadris nyle ȝe goo, nether kepe ȝe the domys of hem, nether be ȝe defoulid in the idolis of hem. [verse 19] Y the Lord ȝour God, in my preceptis walke ȝe, and kepe ȝe my domys, and doo ȝe hem. [verse 20] And halewe ȝe my sabothis, that it be a tokne betwixe me and ȝou, and it be wist, for Y the Lord ȝour God. [verse 21] And the sones of Israel wraththiden me, and thei walkiden not in my preceptis, and thei kepten not my domys, that thei shulden do hem, whiche whanne a man shal doo, he shal lyue in hem, and thei defouliden my sabotis. And I thretenede, that I shulde sheede out my woodnes vp|on [on GH.] hem, and shulde fulfille my wraththe in hem in deseert. [verse 22] Y turnede awei [Om. G pr. m. H.] myn hoond, and Y dide this thing for my name, that it were not defoulid before heithen men, of whom I castide out hem in the eyen of hem. [verse 23] Eftsoone Y reyside myn hoond in to hem in wildirnes, that Y shulde scatere hem in to naciouns, and [verse 24] shulde wyndow hem in to loondis; for that that thei diden not my domys, and repreueden my preceptis, and defouleden
my sabotis, and the eyen of hem weren after the idolis of her fadris. [verse 25] Therfor and Y ȝaue to hem preceptis not goode, and domys in whiche thei shulen not lyue. [verse 26] And Y defoulede hem in her ȝiftis, whanne thei offriden al thing that opneth the wombe for her giltis; and thei shulden wite, for Y the Lord. [verse 27] Wherfor, sone of man, spek thou to the hous of Israel, and thou shalt seie to hem, Thes thingis seith the Lord God, Ȝit and in thes thingis ȝoure faders blasfemeden me, whanne thei despisynge hadden forsake [verse 28] me, and Y hadde ledde hem in to the loond vpon which Y reyside myn hoond, that Y shulde ȝyue it to hem, thei sawen eche heeȝ litil hil, or reisynge of greet hil, and eche tree ful of wode, and thei offreden there her slayn sacrifices for vic|torie, and ȝauen there her offryngis in to wraththinge; and thei puttiden there the odour of her swetnes, and sacrefieden her libaciouns, that ben of fletynge thingis, as wiyn, oyle, and siche. [verse 29] And Y seide to hem, What is the heiȝ thing, to whom ȝe entren in [Om. G pr. m. H.] ? And the name of it is clepid Heeȝ Thing til in to this dai. [verse 30] Ther|for sey thou to the hous of Israel, Thes thingis seith the Lord God, Certis in the weie of ȝoure fadris ȝe ben polut, or de|foulid, and after her offensiouns ȝe don [verse 31] fornycacioun, and in offrynge of ȝour ȝiftis, whanne ȝe leden ouer ȝoure sones bi fier, ȝe ben defoulid in alle ȝour ydols til to dai, and Y shal answere to ȝou, the hous of Israel? Y lyue, seith the Lord [verse 32] God, for I shal not answere to ȝou; ne|ther the thenkynge of ȝour soule, or vnderstondynge, shal be maad, of men seiynge, We shulen be as heithen men, as the kynredis of erthe, that we wor|shipe trees and stoonus. [verse 33] Y lyue, seith the Lord God, for in strong hoond, and in [Om. A.] arm strauȝt out [forth GH.] , and in woodnes shed out, Y shal regne vpon [on GH.] ȝou. [verse 34] And I shal
lede out ȝou of puplis, and Y shal gadre ȝou of loondis, in whiche ȝe ben scaterid; in strong hoond and arm strauȝt forth, and in woodnes shed out I shal regne vpon ȝou. [verse 35] And Y shal lede ȝou in to deseert of puplis, and I shal be demed there with ȝou face to face. [verse 36] As bi doom Y stroof aȝens ȝour fadris in deseert of the loond of Egipt, so Y shal deme ȝou, [verse 37] seith the Lord; and I shal make you suget to my ceptre, and Y [Om. G pr. m. H.] shal lede in ȝou in boondis of pees. [verse 38] And Y shal cheese of ȝou trespasseris, and vnpitouse men; I shal lede out hem fro the loond of her cumlyngnes [comlynge G pr. m. H.] , and thei shulen not entre in to the loond of Israel; and ȝe shulen wite, for Y the Lord. [verse 39] And ȝe, the hous of Israel, thes thingis seith the Lord God, Ȝe eche walke after ȝour idolis, and serue ȝe to hem. That and if in this thing ȝe shulen not here me, and ȝe shulen de|foule ouer myn hooli name in ȝour ȝiftis, [verse 40] and in ȝour ydolis, in myn hooli hil, in the heiȝ hil of Israel, seith the Lord God, there al the hous of Israel shal serue to me; forsothe eche in the loond, in which thei shulen plese to me; and there I shal seche ȝour prymysies, or first fruytis, and [in A.] the bigynnynge of ȝour tithis in alle ȝour halewyngis. [verse 41] In to odour of swet|nes Y shal resseyue ȝou, whanne Y shal lede ȝou out of puplis, and shal gedre ȝou of loondis, in to whiche ȝe ben sca|tered; and I shal be halewid in ȝou in eyen, or siȝt, of naciouns. [verse 42] And ȝe shulen wite, for I the Lord, whanne I shal lede ȝou in to the loond of Israel, in to the loond for which Y reyside myn hoond, that I shulde ȝyue it to ȝour fadris. [verse 43] And there ȝe shulen bithenke in hem of ȝour weies, and of alle ȝour grete trespassis, bi whiche ȝe ben defoulid in hem; and ȝe shulen displese to ȝou in ȝour siȝt, in alle ȝour malices whiche ȝe diden. [verse 44] And ȝe shulen wite, for Y the Lord, whanne I
shal wel doo to ȝou for my name; not after ȝour yuel weies, nether after ȝour werst huge trespassis, ȝe hous of Israel, seith the Lord God. [verse 45] And the word of [verse 46] the Lord is maad to me, seiynge, Sone of man, put thou thi face aȝens the weie of the south, and drop to the south wynd, and prophecy thou to the [Om. G pr. m. H.] wodi place, or wildernes, of the myddai, or south, feeld. [verse 47] And thou shalt seie to the myddai, or south, wodi place, Here thou the word of the Lord. Thes thingis seith the Lord, Loo! I shal kyndle in thee fier, and I shal togider brenne in thee eche grene tree, and eche drye tree; the flaume of brennynge shal not be quenchid, and eche face in it shal be brent togidre, fro the south vnto the north. [verse 48] And eche flesh shal see, for I the Lord brende it, and it shal not be quenchid. [verse 49] And Y seide, A! A! A! Lord God, thei seyn of [to H.] me, What this spekith bi parablis?
