CAP. XLII.

[verse 1] Lo! my seruaunt, I shal vndertaken hym, my chosen, al plesede to hym in hym my soule. I ȝaf my spirit vp on hym, dom to Jentiles he shal bringe forth. [verse 2] He shal not crien, ne take persone, ne shal ben herd his [Om. K.] voys withouteforth. [verse 3] A reed brosid [smyten togydir E sec. m. AGHK.] he shal not to-trede, and flax smokende he shal not quenchen; in treuthe he shal bringe out dom. [verse 4] He shal not be dreri, ne trublid, to the tyme he pute [poote E pr. m.] in the erthe dom, and his lawe iles shul abiden. [verse 5] These thingus seith the Lord God, formende heuenes, and strecchende out hem, fastnende [formynge E pr. m.] erthe, and that buriounen of [out of K.] it, ȝyuende breth to the puple, that is vpon it, and spirit to men tredende it. [verse 6] I the Lord clepede thee in riȝtwisnesse, and toc thin hond, and kepte thee, and ȝaf thee in to coue|naunt of the puple, in to liȝt of Jentiles. [verse 7] That [And that A.] thou shuldist opene the eȝen of blynde men; that thou shuldyst bringe out fro closing the bounde, fro the hous of prisoun the sitteres in dercnesse. [verse 8] I a Lord, this is my name; my glorie to an other I shall not ȝyue, and my preis|ing to grauen thingus. [verse 9] That first weren, lo! ben comen, newe thingus also I telle; er thei ben sprunge, herd I shal maken to ȝou. [verse 10] Syngeth to the Lord a newe song; his preising fro the vtmostes [vttermostis AGHK.] of the [Om. AEG.] erthe; ȝee that gon doun in to the se, and the plente of it, iles, and the dwelleres of hem. [verse 11] Be rered vp the [to E pr. m.] de|sert, and the cites of it; in his houses shal dwelle Cedar; preiseth, ȝee dwelleris of the ston; fro the top of mounteynes thei shul crien. [verse 12] Thei shul sette to the Lord glorie, and his preising in iles thei shul telle. [verse 13] The Lord as strong shal gon out, as a man fiȝtere he shal reren enuye; he shal crien out, and crien; vp on his enemys he shal be coumforted. [verse 14] Y heeld

my pes, euermor I was stille; patient I was, as the trauailende with child I shal speke; I shal scateren, and soupen awei togidere. [verse 15] Desert I shal make hiȝe moun|teynes and hillys, and alle the burioun|yng of hem I shal out [ful out AGHK.] drien; and I shal sette flodis in to iles, and pondis I shal make drie. [verse 16] And I shal bringe out blynde men in to the weie, that thei knowe not, and in the sties that thei vnknowen, hem to gon I shal make; I shal putte the derknesses of hem beforn hem in to liȝt, and shreude thingis in to euene riȝt; these wrdus I dide to them, and I forsoc not hem. [verse 17] Turned thei ben bacward; be thei confoundid with confusioun, that trosten in grauen thing [thingis AGHK.] ; that seyn to the [Om. GH.] ȝoten thing, Ȝee oure goddis. [verse 18] Ȝee deue men, hereth; and ȝee blinde [blynde men A.] , bi|holdeth to seen. [verse 19] Who blinde, but [no but E sec. m. AGHK.] my seruaunt? and def, but [no but E sec. m. AGHK.] to whom my messageres I sente? Who blind, but [no but AE sec. m. GH. non bot K.] he that is sold? who blind, but [non bot K. no but AE sec. m. GH.] the ser|uaunt of the Lord? [verse 20] That seest many thingus, whether thou shalt not kepe? That opened hast the eres, whether thou shalt not here? [verse 21] And the Lord wolde, that he shulde halewen hym [Om. E pr. m.] , and mag|nefie the lawe, and enhauncen. [verse 22] He for|sothe a puple `drawen awei [to-broken E pr. m.] , and wasted; a grene of ȝunge men alle togidere [Om. C pr. m. E pr. m.] , and in houses of prisouns thei ben hid. Thei ben maad in to raueyn, and ther is not that delyuere; `in to [and into AEGHK.] taking awei, and ther is not that `seie, Ȝeeld [lerne to ȝelden E pr. m.] . [verse 23] Who is in ȝou, that here this, take [take he C pr. m.] heed, and herkne thingus to come? [verse 24] Who ȝaf Jacob in to pulling awei, and Irael to wasteres? Whether not the Lord? He is, to whom thei synneden; and thei wolden not in his weies gon, thei herden not his lawe. [verse 25] And he helde out [Om. E pr. m.] vp on it the indigna|cioun of his wodnesse, and [and of E pr. m.] strong bataile;

and he to-brende it in cumpas, and it kneȝ not; he [and he AE sec. m. GHK.] tende it vp, and it [he E pr. m.] vndir|stod not.
