CAP. XXXVI.
[verse 1] And don it is in the fourtenthe ȝer of king Ezechie, steȝede vp Senacherib, king of Assiries, vp on alle the strengthid cites of Juda, and toc hem. [verse 2] And the king of Assiries sente Rapsacen fro Laches in to Jerusalem, to king Ezechie, in an heuy hond; and stod in the water kundute of the ouere pond [fish pond C pr. m. E pr. m.] , in the weie of the ful|leris feeld. [verse 3] And wente oute to hym Elya|chym, sone of Elchie, that was vpon the hous, and Sobna, scribe, and Joae, the sone of Asaf, chaunceler. [verse 4] And Rapsaces seide to them, Seith to Ezechie, These thingus seith the grete king, king of Assiries, What is this trist, that thou [verse 5] trostest? or of counseil [what counseil AEGHK.] or strengthe to rebellen thou disposist? vp on whom [whan K.] hast thou trost, for thou hast gon awei fro me? [verse 6] Lo! thou trostist vp on this `staf of reed [reed staf C pr. m. reedi staf E pr. m.] to-broken, `vp on Egipt [Om. C pr. m. E pr. m.] , to whom if a man shul lene, it shal go in to his hond, and therlen it; so Farao, king of Egipt, to alle men that trosten in hym. [verse 7] That if thou answere [answerist AEGHK.] to me, In the Lord oure God wee trosten; whether not he is, whos heȝe thyngus and auteres toc awei Ezechie, and seyde to Jude and to Jerusalem, Beforn this auter ȝee shul honoure? [verse 8] And now `tac thee [taketh heede E pr. m. tac ȝee K.] to my lord, the [Om. AGHK.] king of Assiries, and I shal ȝyue to thee two thousend hors, and thou shalt not moun ȝyuen of thee steȝeres vp of hem.
