CAP. XXXIII.

[verse 1] Wo! thou that robbest; whether and thi self shalt not be robbid? and thou that dispisist, whethir and thiself shalt not be dispised? Whan thou shalt han [Om. E pr. m.] ful endid robbing, thou shalt be robbid; whan `weeried thou [thou maad werie E sec. m. AGHK.] lefest to dispise, thou shalt be dispisid. [verse 2] Lord, haue merci of vs, thee forsothe wee han abide; be thou oure arm in erly, and oure helthe in tyme of tribulacioun. [verse 3] Fro the vois of the aungil floun [fledden E sec. m. AGHK.] puples; of thin enhauncing scatered ben Jentiles. [verse 4] And gederede to|gidere shul be ȝoure spoiles, as is gedered brush, as whan the diches fulle shul be of it. [verse 5] Magnefied is the Lord, for he

dwelte `in heiȝ [an heȝ E pr. m.] , he [Om. C pr. m. E pr. m.] fulfild [fulfild is E pr. m.] Sion with dom and [of E pr. m.] riȝtwisnesse. [verse 6] And feith shal ben in thi tymes; richesses of helthe, wisdam and kunnyng; the drede of the Lord, it [he E pr. m.] the tresor of hym. [verse 7] Lo! the seeres shul crien withouteforth, the aun|geles of pes bitterli shul wepe. [verse 8] Scatered ben the weies, ceside the passid bi the sty; voyde mad is the couenaunt, he caste awei the [Om. A.] cites, he heeld `of no pris not [not of pris C pr. m. not E pr. m.] men. [verse 9] Weilede, and languysshede the lond; confoundid is Liban, and becam doumb; and mad is Saron as desert, and smyte togidere is Basan, and Carmel. [verse 10] Now I shal rise [arijse AGHK.] , seith the Lord, now I shal ben enhauncid, now I shal ben vp rered. [verse 11] Ȝee shul conseyue brennyng, ȝee shul bern stobil; ȝoure spirit as fyr shal deuoure ȝou. [verse 12] And ben shul puples as of the [Om. A.] brennyng askes [of asken E pr. m. asken E sec. m. GHK. asshen A.] ; thornes gedered togidere in [as of the E pr. m.] fyr shul be brent. [verse 13] Hereth, ȝee that ben aferr, what I haue do; and knowith, ȝee neȝhebores, my strengthe. [verse 14] Al to-brosid ben in Sion synneres, trem|blyng weldede ipocrites; who shal moun dwelle of ȝou with fyr deuourende? who shal dwelle of ȝou with euere durende brennyngus? [verse 15] That goth in riȝtwisnesses, and speketh treuthe; that throwith awei coueitise of wrong [Om. C pr. m. E pr. m.] chaleng, and shaketh out his hondis fro alle ȝifte; that stop|pith his eres, lest he here blod, and closith his eȝen, lest he see euel [blod C pr. m.] . [verse 16] This in heiȝtus shal dwelle, the strengthys of huge stones his heȝte; bred to hym is ȝoue [ȝyuen E.] , his [and his C pr. m. E pr. m. AGHK.] watris ben feithful. [verse 17] The king in his fairnesse seen shuln his eȝen; bi|holden schul [Om. CE pr. m.] the lond fro afer. [verse 18] Thin herte sweteli shal thenke drede; wher is the lettrid? Wher is the wrdus of the lawe chargende? wher is the doctour of litil childer? [verse 19] Vnprudent [And vnprudent E pr. m.] puple he shal not see, puple of heiȝ sermoun, so that thou

mowe not vnderstonde the sleeynesse of his tunge, in whiche is no wisdam. [verse 20] Bi|hold Sion, the cite of oure solempnete; thin eȝen shul see Jerusalem, a plenteuous cite, a tabernacle that shal not moun ben ouerborn, ne his nailis shul ben take awei in to euermor; and alle his litil cordes shul not be to-broken. [verse 21] For onli there the grete doyng, Lord oure God; the place of flodes ryueres most brod and opene; ther entride not bi it the ship of roweres, ne the grete ship of thre stagis [mastes C pr. m. E pr. m.] shal not ouergon it. [verse 22] The Lord forsothe oure domes man, the Lord oure lawe ȝyuere, the Lord oure king; he shal come, and sauen us. [verse 23] Slakid [Loosid C pr. m. E pr. m.] ben thi litil cordes, but thei shul not han the maistri; so shal be thi mast, that thou mow not sprede abrod a tocne. Thanne shul be deuydid spoiles of [and E pr. m.] many preyes, halte men [Om. C pr. m. E pr. m.] shul take awey raueyn. [verse 24] Ne the neȝhebore shal sey, I languyshede; the puple that dwellede in it, ther shal be don awei fro hym wickenesse [wickid|nes AGHK.] .
