[Here bigynneth the Profecie of Ysaye [From E. No initial rubric in the other Mss.] .] CAP. I.
[verse 1] The viseoun of Isaie, sone of Amos, that he saȝ vp on Judam and Jerusalem, in the daȝes of Osie, Joathan, Achaȝ, Esechie, kingus of Juda. [verse 2] Hereth, ȝee heuenus, and with eres parceyue, thou erthe, for the Lord spac. Sonus I nursh|ede out and enhauncede; thei forsothe dispiseden me. [verse 3] The oxe kneȝ his wel|dere, and the asse the [Om. C.] cracche of his lord; Irael forsothe me kneȝ not, and my puple vnderstod [vndirstonde A.] not. [verse 4] Wo to syn|ful [the synful E pr. m.] folc, to the puple heuy with wickid|nesse, to the shreude sed, to the sonus ful of hidous giltes; thei forsoken the Lord, thei blasfemeden [forsoken A.] the hoeli of [Om. E pr. m.] Irael, thei ben aliened awei bacward. [verse 5] `Vp on what thing [Vp the whiche E pr. m.] I shal smyte ȝou [Om. AG pr. m. H.] , ferther|mor addende lawe breche, `or trespassing aȝeyns the lawe [Om. C et E pr. m.] ? Eche `hed ful of lan|gour [languysshinge heued E pr. m.] , and eche `herte ful of mornyng [mornyng herte E pr. m.] . [verse 6] Fro the plante of the foot vnto the top, ther is not in hym [hem AGHK.] helthe; wounde, and wannesse, and siknesse swellende is not bounden aboute, ne curid with leching, ne nurshid with oile. [verse 7] Ȝoure lond is desert, ȝoure cites ben brend vp with fyr; ȝoure regioun [regiouns E pr. m.] deuouren biforn ȝou alienus, and it shal be desolat as in ene|myful wastete [wasted A.] . [verse 8] And the doȝter of Sion shal ben forsaken as a shadewy place in a vyneȝerd [vyne C pr. m. E pr. m.] , and as an [Om. C.] hylet in a place of goordes, and as a cite that is wastid.
