[verse 1] Strong in bataile Jesus Nauee, the suc|cessour of Moises in profetes, that was gret aftir his name. [verse 2] Most in to the helthe of the chosen men of God, to
fiȝten out the enemys aȝenrisende, that he shulde han afterward the eritage of Irael. [verse 3] What glorie he hadde in taking vp his hondis, and in castynge aȝen the cites twey bitende swerdis. [verse 4] Who biforn hym so withstod? for whi the enemys the Lord smot. [verse 5] Or not in wratheful|nesse of hym is lettid the sunne, and o dai is mad as two? [verse 6] He inwardli clepede the heȝest, myȝti [Om. C pr. m.] in aȝenfiȝting his ene|mys on either side; and the grete and hoely God herde hym, in the grete stones of hail of ful gret vertue. [verse 7] A bure [bure forsothe E pr. m.] he made aȝen the enmyable [enemy able C. eymable A.] folc; in the goyng doun he distroȝede the contrari|ous; [verse 8] that the Jentilis knowe the myȝt of hym, for aȝen the Lord to fiȝte is not liȝt; and he folowede the myȝti men [Om. C pr. m.] bihinde. [verse 9] And in the daȝes of Moisy mercy dide he, and Calef, the sone of Jefone; to stonde aȝen the enemy, and to forfende the folc fro [of A.] synnes, and to drawen awei the grucching of the malice. [verse 10] And thei two ordeyned fro the perile ben deliuered, fro the noumbre of six hundrid thousend foot men, to bringe them in to the eritage, in to the lond that flowith mylc and hony. [verse 11] And the Lord ȝaf to Calef strengthe, and vnto eelde abod stille to hym vertue; that [and A.] he shulde steȝe in to the heȝe place of the erthe, and the sed of hym heeld the eritage. [verse 12] And alle the sonus of Irael seȝen, for it is good to obeshe to the hoeli God. [verse 13] And alle the iugis bi ther name, of whom the herte is not corrupt, the whiche ben not turned awei fro the [verse 14] Lord; that the mynde of hem be in blessing, and the boenes of hem buri|ounen [verse 15] fro ther place; and the name of hem abit [abideth AEGH.] stille in to with oute ende, the glorie of hoely [tho hooli AE sec. m. GH.] men abidende stille to the sonus of hem. [verse 16] Samuel, the profete of the Lord, looued of the Lord his God, renewede the empire, and enoynt|ede princes in his folc. [verse 17] In the lawe of
the Lord he demede the congregacioun, and he saȝ the Lord of Jacob, and in his feith he is proued a profete. [verse 18] And he is knowen in his wrdis feithful, for he saȝ the Lord of liȝt. [verse 19] And he inwardly clep|ide the almyȝty Lord, in aȝenfiȝting the enemys aboute stondende on eche side, in the offring of the man vndefoulid. [verse 20] And the Lord thundrede in fro heuene, in a gret soun his vois he made herd. [verse 21] And he to-trad the princes of Tyres, and alle the dukes of Filisteys [Philistiym AGH.] . [verse 22] And bifore the [Om. A.] tyme of the ende of his lif, and he ȝaf witnessing of the world, in the siȝt of the Lord, and of Crist; monees and vnto the shon, of alle flesh he toc not; and ther acuside hym not a man. [verse 23] And aftir that [Om. C pr. m.] he slepte, and made knowen to the kyng, and shewede to hym the ende of his lif; and enhauncede his vois fro the erthe in profecie, to don awey the vnpitouste of the folc.
