[verse 1] To the dredende God eueles shul not meete; but in tempting God shal kepen hym, and delyueren hym fro euelys. [verse 2] The wise man hateth not hestes, and riȝtwisnesses; and he shal not ben hurt|lid, as in the tempest of a ship. [verse 3] A weel felende man leeueth [bileeueth G sec. m.] to the lawe of God, and the lawe feithful to hym. [verse 4] Who the asking maketh open, shal greithe a wrd; and so louli preȝende he shal be ful out herd, and he shal kepe disciplyne, and thanne he shal answern. [verse 5] The entrailes of a fool as the whel of a carre, and as a turnende ful axtre [or a natke C sec. m. marg. or a naaue E sec. m. marg. H. axtree, or naaue G.] the thenkingus [thenkynge AGH.] of hym. [verse 6] An hors courser, so and a frend priue scornere, vnder eche man vpon sittende neȝeth. [verse 9] And he shal chaunge the tymes and the feste daȝes of hem, and in hem the feste daȝes thei haleweden at the hour. [verse 10] Of hem God enhauncede and magnefiede; and of them he putte in to the noumbre of daȝes and ȝeres; and alle men of the soil [sueuel A. soule H.] , and of the erthe, wherof Adam was foormed. [verse 11] In the multitude of the disciplyne of the Lord he seuerede them, and chaungide the weies of them. [verse 12] And of them he blissede, and enhauncede; and of hem he halewide, and to hymself he pre|sentede; of hem he curside, and mekede, and turnede them to the seueryng of hem. [verse 13] As the cley of the crockere in the hond of hym, to foormen and to [Om. AGH.] dis|posen [verse 14] it, alle the weies of it aftir his disposicioun; so a man in his hond that made hym; and he shal ȝeelde to them aftir his dom. [verse 15] Aȝen euel is good, and aȝen lif deth; so and aȝen the riȝtwis man the synnere. And so bihold in to alle the werkis of the heȝest; two aȝen two, oon aȝen oon. [verse 16] And I the [to the E pr. m.] laste wakide [wallide AH. wakid out G.] , and as that gedereth clustris [pepynes E pr. m.] , aftir the grape kutteres. [verse 17] In the blessing of God and I myself hopede; and as he that grapes kutteth [cutte AG pr. m. H.] , I fulfilde presse [my presse E pr. m. AGH.] . [verse 18] Beholdeth, for not to me alone I tra|uailede, but to alle men sechende out disciplyne. [verse 19] Hereth me, ȝee grete men, and alle puples; and ȝee gouernoures of the chirche, with eres parceyueth. [verse 20] To sone, and wif, brother, and frend, ȝif thou not power vp on thee in thi lif; and ȝyue thou not to an other thi possessioun, lest it othinke thee, and thou louli preȝe for hem. [verse 21] Whil ȝit thou art aboue [on E pr. m.] , `or lyuest [Om. C et E pr. m.] , and brethest, shal not chaungen thee alle flesh. the hondus of thi sonus. [verse 23] In alle thi [verse 24] werkes beforn passende be thou; ne ȝyue thou a wem in to thi glorie. In the dai of the ful endyng of the daȝes of thi lif, and in tyme of thi deth dele thin eritage. [verse 25] Metes, and ȝerde, and berthene to an asse; bred, and disciplyne, and werk to a seruaunt. [verse 26] He werketh in dis|ciplyne, and the largid [large G sec. m.] hond to hym secheth `to resten [for to aȝen resten G sec. m.] , and secheth [he sechith G sec. m.] fredam. [verse 27] Ȝoc and brydil [the brydil E.] reyne crooken the harde necke; and the seruaunt bowen besy werkis. [verse 28] To the euel willi seruaunt tor|menting and gyues; put hym into werch|ing, [verse 29] lest he be voide; forsothe myche malice idilnesse taȝte. [verse 30] In werk set hym, so forsothe it semeth hym; that if he here not, bowe hym with gyues, and make thou not large `vp on [vpon hym AGH.] alle flesh, but with oute dom noo thing do thou heuy. [verse 31] If ther is to thee a feithful ser|uaunt, be he to thee as thi lif; as a [thi A.] brother so trete hym, for in blod of lif thou boȝtyst hym. [verse 32] If thou `schalt hurte [hurte C pr. m. hurtist E pr. m.] hym vnriȝtwisly, in to fliȝt he shal ben [verse 33] turned; and if enhauncende he schal [Om. C pr. m.] go awei, whom schalt [Om. C pr. m.] thou seche, and in what weie thou [Om. GH.] schalt [Om. AC pr. m. GH.] seche hym, thou wost not.
