[verse 1] To the man, that the chastisere with hard noll dispisith, feerli deth shal come
vp on to hym; and hym helthe shal not folewe. [verse 2] In the multepliyng of riȝtwis men shal gladen the comun; and whan vnpitous men han taken princehed, the puple shal weilen. [verse 3] The man that loou|eth wisdam, gladith his fader; who for|sothe nurshith an hoore, shal leese sub|staunce. [verse 4] A riȝtwis king rereth vp the lond; an auerous man shal destroȝen it. [verse 5] The man that with flateryng and feyned wrdis spekith to his frend; a net spred|ith to his goingis. [verse 6] The sinnende wicke man a grene shal inwrappe; and the riȝtwise shal preisen, and ioȝen. [verse 7] The riȝtwise kneȝ the cause of pore men; the vnpitous vnknowith kunnyng men. [verse 8] Bacbitende scateren the cite; wise men forsothe turnen awei wodnesse. [verse 9] A wis man if with a fool shul striue; whethir he laȝhe, or wrathe, he shal not finde reste. [verse 10] Men of blodis hateden the sim|ple; riȝtwis men forsothe sechen the soule of hym. [verse 11] Al his spirit bringeth forth the fool; a wis man berth ouer, and kepith vnto afterward. [verse 12] A prince that gladli hereth the wrdis of lesing; alle the mynystris hath vnpitouse. [verse 13] The pore and the creaunsour metten togi|dere; of either the liȝtnere is the Lord. [verse 14] The king that demeth in treuthe pore men; the trone of hym in to withoute ende shal be fastned. [verse 15] Ȝerde and correc|cioun shal ȝelde wisdam; the child for|sothe, that is laft to his wil, confoundith his modir. [verse 16] In the multipliyng of vnpit|ous men shuln ben multiplied hidous giltis; and the fallingis [falling A.] of hem riȝtwis men shul see. [verse 17] Lerne thi sone, and he shal refreshen thee; and he shal ȝiue delices to his soule. [verse 18] Whan prophecie shal faile, the puple shal ben scaterid; who forsothe kepith the lawe, is blisful. [verse 19] The seruaunt in wrdis mai not ben lerned; for that that thou seist, he vn|dirstant
[vndurstondith AH.] , and to answern he dispisith. [verse 20] Hast thou seen a man swift to speken? folie more is to ben hopid than the cor|reccioun of hym. [verse 21] Who delicatli fro childhed [his childhed E pr. m.] nurshith his seruaunt; after|ward shal feelen hym vnobeisaunt. [verse 22] The man wratheful stireth striues; and he that is liȝt to han indignacioun, shal be to synnes more redi. [verse 23] The proude man lounesse folewith [hatith E sec. m.] ; and the meke man in spirit glorie shal resceyue. [verse 24] Who with a theef is parcener, hatith his soule; the adiurere he hereth, and not shewith. [verse 25] Who dredith a man, soone shal falle; who hopith in the Lord, shal ben vp rerid. [verse 26] Manye sechen the face of the prince; and dom of eche [echon AEGH.] shal gon out fro the Lord. [verse 27] Riȝtwis men wlaten the vnpitous man; and vnpitous men wlaten hem, that ben in the riȝt weie. The sone kepende the wrd shal ben out of perdi|cioun.
