[verse 1] The wise womman bildeth vp hir hous; the vnwise the maad out [Om. A. vp GH.] forsothe with hondis shal destroȝe. [verse 2] The goende in riȝt weie, and dredende God, is dispisid

of hym, that goth in the euel losid weie. [verse 3] In the mouth of the fool a ȝerde of pride; the lippis of wise men kepen hem. [verse 4] Wher ben not oxen, the cracche is voide; wher forsothe aperen many tilthis, there is open maad the strengthe of the oxe. [verse 5] A feithful witnesse shal not lien; the trecherous witnesse speketh lesing. [verse 6] The scornere seketh wisdam, and findeth not; the doctrine of prudent men liȝt. [verse 7] Go aȝen the fol [fol man E pr. m.] ; and he shal not knowe the lippis of prudence. [verse 8] The wis|dam of the witti man is to vnderstonde his weie; and the [Om. AGH.] vnprudence of foolis erring. [verse 9] The fool scorneth synne; among riȝtwis men grace shal wone. [verse 10] The herte that knew the bitternesse of his soule; in ioȝe to hym shal not be togidere mengd a straunger. [verse 11] The hous of vn|pitous men shal be don awei; the taber|naclis of riȝtwis men shal burioune. [verse 12] Ther is forsothe a weie, that semeth to a man riȝtwis; the laste thingus forsothe of it bringen [bringith A.] doun to deth. [verse 13] Lawȝing with sorewe shal be mengd; and the endis of ioȝe weiling ocupieth. [verse 14] With his weies shal be fulfild the fol; and aboue hym shal be a good man. [verse 15] The innocent trowith to eche woord; the witti behold|eth his goingis. [verse 16] The wise man dredeth, and bowith doun fro euel; the fol ouer|lepeth, and trosteth. [verse 17] The vnpacient shal werche folie; and the desseyuable man is hateful. [verse 18] Litle childer shul welde folie; and witti men shul abide kunnyng. [verse 19] Euel men shul lyn befor good men; and vn|pitous men befor the ȝatis of riȝtwis men. [verse 20] Also to his neȝhebore the [a AGH.] pore man hateful shal be; the frendis forsothe of riche men manye. [verse 21] Who despisith his neȝhebore, synneth; who forsothe doth merci to the pore man, shal be blisful. Who leeueth in the Lord, looueth merci; thei erren, that werchen euel. [verse 22] Mercy [verse 23] and treuthe greithen goodis; in alle good werc plente shal be. Wher forsothe

[verse 27] The drede of the Lord the welle of lif; that he bowe doun fro falling of deth. [verse 28] In the multitude of puple the dignete of the king; and in fewenesse of folc the shen|shipe of the prince. [verse 29] Who is pacient, is gouerned with myche wisdam; who for|sothe is vnpacient, enhaunceth hys folie. [verse 30] The lif of flesh helthe of herte; the stink of bones enuye. [verse 31] Who wrongfulli chalengeth the nedi, mysseith to his makere; he honoureth hym forsothe, that hath reuthe of the pore. [verse 32] In hys malice is put out the vnpitous; the riȝt|wis forsothe hopeth in his deth. [verse 33] In the herte of the prudent man shal reste wis|dam; and vntaȝt men also [eche E pr. m.] it shal lerne. [verse 34] Riȝtwisnesse rereth vp folc [the nedy E pr. m.] ; wreccheful maketh puplis synne. [verse 35] Alowid is to the king an vnderstondende seruaunt; the plente of his wrathe the vnprofitable shal suffre.
