PSALM LXXVII. [ [verse 1] The vnderstonding of Asaf.]

Taketh tente, my puple, to my lawe; inwardli bowith ȝoure ere in to the woordis of my mouth. [verse 2] I shul opene in parablis my mouth; I shal speke propo|siciouns fro the begynnyng. [verse 3] Hou grete thingis wee han herd, and han knowe them; and oure fadris tolden to vs. [verse 4] Thei ben not hid fro ther sones; in an other ieneracioun. Tellende [Tellith A.] the preisingus of the Lord, and his vertues; and his mer|ueilis, that he dide. [verse 5] And he rerede wit|nessing in Jacob; and lawe he putte in

Irael. Hou grete thingis he sente to oure fadris, to make thoo thingus knowe [verse 6] to ther sones; that the tother ieneracioun knowe. The sonus, that shul be born, and risen out; shul tellen out to ther sones. [verse 7] That thei putte in God ther hope, and thei forȝete not the werkis of God; and his hestis thei out seche. [verse 8] Lest thei be maad as ther fadris; a shreude ienera|cioun and a terrende out. A ieneracioun that dresside not his herte; and his spirit is not take with God. [verse 9] The sones of Ef|fraym lokende in, and sendende [senden C. sendinge AEH.] a bowe; ben turned in the dai of bataile. [verse 10] Thei kepten not the testament of God; and in his lawe thei wolden not go. [verse 11] And thei forȝeten his benefetis; and his merueylis, that he shewide to them. [verse 12] Befor the fa|dris of hem he dide merueilis in the lond of Egipt; in the feld of Tafneos. [verse 13] He betwen vp brac the se, and thurȝ broȝte them; and sette the watris as in a botel. [verse 14] And he ladde hem thennes in the cloude of the day; and al nyȝt in the liȝtnyng [lickenes A. lyȝtnesse H.] of fyr. [verse 15] He betwe brac the ston in wil|dernesse; and watride hem as in a myche deep water. [verse 16] And he broȝte out water of the ston; and he ladde out watris as flodis. [verse 17] And thei leide to ȝit to synnen to hym; in to wrathe thei stiriden the heȝe, in vnwatri place. [verse 18] And thei tempt|eden God in ther hertis; that thei aske metis to ther soulis. [verse 19] And euele thei speken of God; thei seiden, Whether God shal moun make redi a bord in desert? [verse 20] For he smot the ston, and ther floweden watris; and the stremes maden to flowen. Whether and bred he shal moun ȝiue; or greithen a bord to his puple? [verse 21] Ther|fore the Lord herde, and lafte of; and fyr is tend up in Jacob; and wrathe is steȝed vp in Irael. [verse 22] For thei leeueden not in God; ne hopiden in his helthe ȝiuere. [verse 23] And he sente to the cloudes fro aboue; and the ȝatis of heuene he openede.

[verse 24] And he reynede to hem manna to ete; and the bred of heuene he ȝaf to hem. [verse 25] Man eet the bred of aungelis; metis he sente to hem in abundaunce. [verse 26] He trans|latide the south fro heuene; and broȝte in his vertue the southerne wynd. [verse 27] And he reynede vp on hem flesh as pouder; and federed volatilis, as the grauel of the se. [verse 28] And thei fellen in the myddil of the tentys of hem; aboute ther tabernaclis. [verse 29] And thei eeten, and ben fulfild ful myche, [verse 30] and ther desir he broȝte to them; thei ben not bigilid fro ther desir. Ȝit their [verse 31] metis weren in the mouth [mouthis AH.] of hem; and the wrathe of God steiȝide vp upon hem. And he sloȝ the fatte men of hem; and the chosen men of Irael he lettide. [verse 32] In alle these thingus thei synneden ȝit; and thei leeueden not in his merueilis. [verse 33] And the daȝis of hem failiden in vanytee; and the ȝeeris of hem in withheeȝing. [verse 34] Whan he shulde slen hem, thei soȝten him; and weren turned aȝeen, and the morutid thei camen to hym. [verse 35] And thei be remembrid, for God is ther helpere; and the heȝe God is the aȝeenbiere of hem. [verse 36] And thei looueden hym in ther mouth; and in ther tunge thei lieden to hym. [verse 37] The herte forsothe of hem was not riȝt with hym; ne feithful thei ben had in the testament of hym. [verse 38] He forsothe is merciful [mercyable AH.] , and plesid shal be maad to the synnes of hem; and he shal not scatere them. And he abundede, that he turne awei his wrathe; and he teende not vp al his wrathe. [verse 39] And he recordide, for thei ben flesh; a spirit goende, and not turnende aȝeen. [verse 40] Hou ofte sithis thei out terreden hym in desert; in to wrathe thei to|stiriden hym in vnwatri place. [verse 41] And thei ben turned, and tempteden God; and holy Irael thei ful out terreden. [verse 42] Thei ben not recordid of his hond; the dai that he boȝte hem fro the hond of

the trublere. [verse 43] As he putte in Egipt his signes; and his wunders in the feld of Thaneos. [verse 44] And he turnede into blod the flodis of hem; and ther cisternes, that thei shulde not drinke. [verse 45] And he sente in to them an hound fleȝe, and it eet hem; and a frogge [frosshe A.] , and it destroȝede them. [verse 46] And he ȝaf to rust the frutis of hem; and ther trauailis to a locust. [verse 47] And he sloȝ in hail the vynes of hem; and ther [the A.] mul|berie trees in frost. [verse 48] And he toc to hail the bestis of hem; and the possessioun of hem to fyr. [verse 49] He sente in to them the wrathe of his indignacioun; indigna|cioun [Om. A.] , and wrathe, and tribulacioun, in sendingus bi euele aungelis. [verse 50] A weie he made to the path of his wrathe, and he sparide not fro the deth of the lyues of hem; and the bestis of hem in deth he closide. [verse 51] And he smot alle the firste goten in the lond of Egipt; the first frutis of alle the trauayle of hem in the taber|naclis [tabernacle AH.] of Cham. [verse 52] And he toc awei as shep his puple; and he ladde hem thurȝ as a floc in desert. [verse 53] And he ladde hem thennys in hope, and thei dreden not; and the enemys of hem the se couerede. [verse 54] And he inladde them in to the hil of his halewing; the hil that his riȝthond pur|chaside. And he caste out fro the face of hem Jentilis; and bi lot he deuydede to hem the erthe in the litle corde of deling. [verse 55] And he made to dwelle in the tabernaclis of hem the linagis [lynage A.] of Irael. [verse 56] And thei tempteden, and sharpli terreden the heȝe God; and his witnessingus thei kepten not. [verse 57] And they turneden themself awei, and thei kepten not couenaunt; as ther fadris ben turned in to a shreude bowe. [verse 58] In to wrathe thei stiriden hym in ther hillis; and in ther grauen thingis to ielouste [the locuste H.] thei terreden hym. [verse 59] God herde, and despiside; and to noȝt he broȝte gretli Irael. [verse 60] And he putte abac the tabernacle of Silo; his tabernacle wher he dwelte in

men. [verse 61] And he toc into caitifte the vertu of hem; and the fairnesse of hem in to the hondus of the enemy. [verse 62] And he closide in swerd his puple; and his eritage he [Om. C.] dispiside. [verse 63] Ȝunge men [Om. C.] of hem the fyr eet; and the maidenes of hem ben not weilid. [verse 64] The prestis of hem in swerd fellen; and the widewis of hem weren not wept. [verse 65] And the Lord is rerid vp, as slepende; as myȝti drunken of win. [verse 66] And he smot his enemys in to the hindermor partis; euere lasting repref he ȝaf to them. [verse 67] And he putte abac the tabernacle of Josep; and the linage of Effraym he ches not. [verse 68] But he ches the linage of Juda; the hil of Sion, that he loouede. [verse 69] And he bilde vp as vnycorn his holi making; in the lond, that he foundede in to worldus. [verse 70] And he ches Dauid his seruaunt, and he bar hym vp fro the flockis of shep; fro the aftir berende blet he toc hym. [verse 71] To fede Jacob his seruaunt; and Irael his eritage. [verse 72] And he fedde hem in the inno|cence of his herte; and in the vnder|stondingus of ther hondis he ladde hem thenes.
